You're drinking a little too much Apple Kool-Aid and need to do a little research on what device management capabilities are available on other phones.

Well youre wrong, Cause I am not an apple fanboy like you assume I am. I never owned a mac product or ipod, prior to my iphone,, and as far as cell phones ever since my 1st one back in 1994-95, I have used mainly Nokia phones,,,, Ive tried many of the competitions phones, but none ever came close to the quality of a Nokia phone until last year, when I tried an Iphone
Apple has managed to create a device that is way above the competition. I'd like to know what kind of cell phone YOU prefer.

Funny, I'm the opposite. Been using Apple since '87 but knew their phone was WAY overpriced and overhyped initially. Now that the price has bottomed out, I'm actually considering pickin' it up. Still on the fence though 'cause the Pre is looking pretty nice.

I may just go with a Touch for the apps.

I actually do *LIKE* the iPhone. I just don't subscribe to the blind hype. There's a lot that's great, but a lot that sucked and still sucks too.

Same with every other phone out there. All have advantages and disadvantages. Why not just crow about what the iPhone does do well instead of this silly "it's better in every way than everything out there in every way " kool-aid. It looks slick, the app store is nice, the multimedia is nice, the browsing is nice and the phone is easy to use.

I use the Touch because of the apps and SNES emulator. I have a Blackbery curve for my phone and internet with the 19.99 unlimited data plan from T-Mobile. My son bought an unlocked Iphone and T-Mobile let him move his blackberry plan to it at the same price. They even walked him through the setup and everything, hard to beat that.

Here's what I don't like about iPhone

- its battery life is among the worst I've ever seen
- If the battery dies, you can't pop it out and replace. You send back to Apple.
- it drops calls all the time when I've used it and the call quality isn't as good as other phones I've used.
- it can't run more than one thing at a time - which SUCKS for multitasking.
- Many companies won't let you use it at work because

a) The security sucks compared to other phones
b) Same with the device management capabilities. I get the wiping and all but the iPhone's IT policies, app management and security functions are WAY behind competition
c) It really doesn't work well with many corporate systems.

- It's piss-ass data compression causes inflated carrier bills.
- Apple crows a bit too much about the App Store. Their competitors generally have "tens of thousands" of apps as well. Just available in more than one spot so you get the benefit of competition. Plus, for every great "App Store" app, there's about twenty "iFarts"

- You can only get them through AT&T so you deal with Apple and AT&T's inflated prices vs. shopping around.

I actually do *LIKE* the iPhone. I just don't subscribe to the blind hype. There's a lot that's great, but a lot that sucked and still sucks too.

all this mumbo jumbo but yet not telling us what you prefer ?!

Name ONE cellphone or carrier that has anything similiar to the app store.

Name one cellphone that offers ALL the features iPhone does in one package

I have been with AT&T for 6 years now , great coverage and the best on Internet. The main competition (verizon) is light years behind. Instead of investing money in more towers and better coverage and services , verizon spends money in stupid commercials.

Mumno jumbo only if you don't understand or are blinded by fanboyism.

As for preferences, you seem to also miss my point.

If you have this assumption, you obviously haven't been looking at the whole market.

See above.

Why have any of this crap? It's all too trendy, if not outright cliche.

It is mumbo jumbo cause YOU can't even explain it.
You can't name one cellphone that YOU think it's better than iPhone and you blame that on me being a fanboy?!
You can't mention one carrier that offers the same as app store but your argument is a plain "see above "

I told you before , I am not an apple fanboy. I just happen to think that they managed to come out with a product that put all competition to shame. Be it palm , blackberry or even fucking raspberry , they all have made cellphones long before apple and apple simply jumped on and took over.
You're the one who need to do some more research. Trust me when it comes to gadgets I'm pretty openminded and give all manufacturers a fair chance before I choose.
So what's your next move ? That VHS is better than BluRay ?? That Sony Walkman is better than Ipod. That a map & compass overpowers a GPS.

Good comparisons of Pre, i3g and i3gs here. Pre slower to boot but faster than 3gs for browsing.

Pre still a touch faster for browsing here at 1:25

The fact that you need it explained beyond what I did already is very, very telling.

You can't name one cellphone that YOU think it's better than iPhone and you blame that on me being a fanboy?!

By what criteria? For home use? For business use? For email? For calls? For browsing? For games? For deploying?

My problem with your statement is that its generic. "My god, it's better in every way for everything". It's not - do a google search and you'll see lots of pros and cons for iPhone.

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&clien ... arch&meta=

I'll even give some:

- if you want to play games on a phone, the iPhone is definitely the choice.

- if you want to browse the web on a phone, the iPhone is definitely the choice.

You can't mention one carrier that offers the same as app store

Go a search for "app store" in Google. There are lots. In fact, let me help you:

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&clien ... arch&meta=
http://www.google.ca/search?q=Smartphon ... =firefox-a

You seem to think I don't like the iPhone. Ain't correct. I just don't subscribe to the "its revolutionary in every way" hype. If it works for you, awesome. There are many things about it that don't work for me.

I don't like the fact that I can barely make it through a morning without the battery dying on the thing. I hate typing on it. I hate the touch screen when I'm on a call. I hate the call quality. I hate the camera. I don't think its anywhere near strong enough as a business device to bring it to work.

It's been fun debating with you, but I really have no interest in blind fanboyism.

Its not a debate when you still think that Im a fanboy, simply because I enjoy the many things in the Iphone that others phones can not do.
I never said its a perfect phone, nor did I say its flawless.
Of course it has its pros and cons, but show me one phone that doesnt.
My conclusion is that At the same time that you would love to have an iphone, you either cant get one cause of the allowance shortage, or you simply choose to put it down, just so you wont get labeled as a fanboy by your highschool friends
