I'm afraid that sound of masculinity that some fans supposedly hear in his voice of late is actually the beginning signs of a guy who's voice is starting to go through some serious changes. The guy's over forty. You can't run from Father Time.

Bah! You're so fatalistic. Listening to some of his zoo tunes, I believe that the masculinity sound is his real voice and the soaring tenor is one of his abilities. Even in the tuned down songs I occasionally hear him punch it.

First of all, the Faithfully video is horrible sound quality, so I can't tell anything from it. I feel, unlike Stevew2, that Faithfully has been one of Arnel's best songs on Journey material, but I agree this year from some videos I've viewed there's a part the he drags on in the beginning especially. And it's happened more than once. I can't figure out what is going on, b/c that's not how he performed it last year ever, from Chile on.

Remember what JSS said when they tried to Step Down with him? He sad it's a difficult thing to do.
Perhaps it's part of Arnel's problem with slow songs like this. He has had a few timing issues this year also. It's either the detuning or he's developing hearing problems. Remember he never worked with loud equipment like this before, it could be that his ears are taking a beating.

CADOTT - The weather may have been cold, but Journey - Rock Fest's headline act on Saturday - was red hot.

The powerful Pineda brought his own vocal style but kept the classics authentic-sounding, too. The natural born performer had no problem winning the crowd over.

"Good people of Wisconsin, sing!" he invited during the well-received performance of "Faithfully."

Well, I don't think it's hearing b/c he sounds great on really all the songs except a few times he missed a beat. But Faithfully is in the same place consistently, so maybe it is the detuning on a slow song that is doing it. I will have to check out more videos in Europe of Faithfully and see if it's every time. It's been in the same place just on the ones I've seen for Faithfully.

That's what sucks with detuning it's all or nothing. Would love for the new songs to be song in original key but it's not going to be possible.
That may be the issue with TDTWT also. It's slow to begin with, playing it flat might just kill it totally. :(

Wow, in that review I read of the show from Wisconsin they said it was freezing and you could see Arnel's breath but that he was sweating. He must have really been moving around a lot to sweat in that kind of cold. Great video, Isla.
