Quick note: Warrant actually had much better material in them too, as their post-"Cherry Pie" albums showed. But Poison? With them, what you see is what you get. Bret Michaels is 100% cheese. TUFF is a good example of what Poison would be if you added talent and decent songwriting ability.

not that there's anything wrong with that 8)

I had three slices of cheese last month (w/ Def Lep & Cheap Trick) ... first show, I thought, "gah, what a cheese ball!" By show three, Bret & CC were sort of endearing ... they certainly work their asses off engaging the crowd and putting on a show.

Bret's a fantastic showman. I've never been to a poison show where he hasn't impressed, even if his shtick hasn't changed. He does it well....

Take Cherry Pie and I saw Red off that album, and you get a much different album....far more rough, edgy and underground. Jani Lane has stated as much that Cherry Pie was a label demand for a 'single'....and that he wrote the song after being given the demand. I suspect I saw Red is similar in motivation, as once you remove those two albums, you have a much different album that was going to be called "Uncle Tom's Cabin"....

Regardless, Winger's past 2 albums are far closer to what the band really is....and it's sad that Judge, Atlantic and others took advantage of Winger in such a way.

Agree completely about both Warrant and Winger. I remember that interview from a while ago with Jani talking about the album, that it was done and titled Uncle Tom's Cabin, and then they demanded the band come up with something else and change it. Some great songs on that album, Uncle Tom's being one of course, but also Blind Faith is an incredible ballad, and when I saw them live, another fav of mine on there, Mr. Rainmaker was great live, even heavier and just awesome. The album after, Dog Eat Dog, has incredible stuff too, Let It Rain, another incredible ballad, All My Bridges Are Burning another fav, just great stuff.

Oh and not a song but still great on Cherry Pie... Ode To Tipper Gore, lol. Funny stuff. That could be a theme for this forum, lol.

Agreed, I've never been much of a fan at all, but love them or hate them, they DO know how to work a crowd and have an audience on their feet the whole time.

I should have qualified my statement about Poison because they definitely put on a good show. I think their true talent is more as entertainers than as musicians or songwriters.
