If Cain wants to have lyrics with his solo work, he should go the Jim Brickman/Santana route and bring in guest singers. He may even get some mainstream exposure by doing so.

Great point by you. Hell, Brickman brought in Martina McBride and had some success because she can actually sing. The problem with Cain is that he's too fucking stupid to figure out that he sounds like someone being tortured with a pitchfork in his anus while he's trying to sing!

Listening to him sing his version of Faithfully literally made me want to punch babies. You'd think with all of his industry contacts, someone would talk him into this. Hell, Diane Warren is even smart enough to pass on singing.

I feel your pain, dude! I was fucking HORRIFIED when I heard him singing that song. As I've said 1000 times on this board...anyone who thinks the singer doesn't matter should listen to Cain's version of "Faithfully", and they'll never make such a moronic comment again. Perry's voice turned that song into a timeless classic. Cain's voice wasn't good enough for a karaoke bar full of hammered drunks! Anyone who claims to like Cain's version of "Faithfully" should be immediately excommunicated from Journey fandom FOR LIFE!

I played that crap once. Was curious. Had to reside the house afterward. Still in litigation over the neighbor's tuckpointing. I say it all fell out before I played that music and they claim it was fine until I started in with the Friggles.

I believe she's saying that Friga's voice is such a fucking abortion that it fucked up the brick on her neighbor's house or chimney

The frightening thing that I still can't quite wrap my head around is that we have dopes on this board who actually think, and then go on to admit that "it's not that bad"! Really? It's about as bad as bad gets! Can someone post it here? Let's post it and start a poll but in that poll, let's make the people who like Friga's version actually identify themselves. Myself, Rhi, BJG, and MG will drive around the country and slap the shit out of every one of these nitwits!

I could use a vacation.

(@brywool... Its for me not so much that he remade the classic blah blah blah... it's his song, he can do as he pleases. It's just a horrendous rendition. And lots of people write songs that are great, and perform them shittily. And I'm not going to excuse the shittiness just because it's "their song". Shitty is shitty. And that's my point. )

Not saying it's a classic- geez. Everybody just freaks out here...
As a singer/songwriter kind of thing, it was fine. As AOR, obviously, it wasn't going to make it. But as a guy that recorded HIS song- it's fine. Nothing'll eclipse the original Journey recording. Duh. I hardly think that Cain tried to do that. I think he just wanted to record it. As for his singing- I've heard much worse singers that're "stars". I'd rather listen to his version of "Faithfully" than I would, say, "Mr. Roboto" which was a big hit with a great singer, but it SUCKED as do MANY "big" hits. So the guy's not a brilliant singer- I don't get the spewage at Cain... What, are we like 5 here? I've heard worse (Piano with a View was definitely worse- awful record.)

No, they just like to shit in the proverbial punchbowl of life. But you have to also remember that if this place was too neat and sanitary nobody would want to come here. We need a good balance of dissention, but sometimes there is not a balance but a hate / mean streak strewn about the forums for the sole purpose of derailing anything good said about Journey or it's members. It's always the same people doing it.

Bullshit. "Back to the Innocence" is an awesome album. When the song fits his voice, he is fine. When he does stuff like "Faithfully" is when he sounds bad.

I would very much welcome another vocal album by Jonathan. I would but it. I will not buy another boring intrumental solo album...even if it was another with Neal like "Beyond the Thunder".

What turned "FaithfullY" into a classic is Jonathan's smarts in not letting Perry have it for "Street Talk", and Journey doing it instead. It is MUCH more then Perry's vocals that makes that song special. But, of course your "tunnel hearing" will never realize that.

What is sad is that you people don't realize that Jonathan put that on the album to give fans a listen to what the band heard when he demo'd the song. It wasn't meant to rival Journey's version.

Too bad people can't appreciate Jonathan's intentions of giving fans a glimpse of the earliest version of him most popular song...It's a good thing that the members of the band have a better ear for a good song the some of their fans.

EXACTLY...and I really wish I had read this thread before I wrote that first note.

Jonthan's inentions were to give Journey fans a glimpse of the demo he performed for the band. I guess people don't give a damn about stuff like that any longer and would rather think of good insults. Journey fandom has become VERY pathetic.

No, I don't "love it". But, I respect him for giving the fans a gift of letting us hear the version that Journey heard. it's too bad people have to critique it to death and can't accept it for what it is, and the intentions of why it is on the CD.

And, he didn't just let Perry sing. He saved it for JOURNEY - not just Perry.

MG, would it be.... discourteous to say that you're more sensitive to Steve P. than other members of the band?? You don't seem to handle criticisms of him very well... JM2C.

What turned "FaithfullY" into a classic is Jonathan's smarts in not letting Perry have it for "Street Talk", and Journey doing it instead. It is MUCH more then Perry's vocals that makes that song special. But, of course your "tunnel hearing" will never realize that.

Dude...nobody is telling you that you can't stroke Cain's schlong for writing such a brilliant song and "saving it for Journey" as you said. You'll NEVER find one single post from me disparaging Cain's writing abilities. I honestly believe that Cain is a song writing genius. The guy is one of the most prolific song writers I've ever seen and I honestly don't believe he gets enough credit for his immense writing talent. It still doesn't change the fact that he sings like a dying fucking sea turtle! As for your point that he just had this compelling need to share with his fans the "demo" version of the song...he would do us all a huge favor he he opted to share a fucking bag of Doritos with us
