You know since 1998 people have been saying this Journey tour or that tour will not be profitable or successful. Well they have been wrong each time. When they play summer amphitheater tours, the chime is "they will never sell those out." Yet they do. When they wanted to do a tour of smaller venues, everyone said "oh look they can't even draw at Casinos and fairs". Yet they did. And the tour is successful, the anti-Journey crowd here comes with the "Oh well it must be because, of Def Leppard, or Heart, or REO, or Styx, or Foreigner. Damn people, don't you ever get tired of being proved wrong again and again.

I don't have the stats in front of me, but I have a friend that manages an arena and he says thay they have not been very profitable. The band may do ok, but according to him, the promoter may be taking it on the chin.

They did a solo stop (without Heart) in KC and couldn't sell out a small theater. I was disappointed in the fans more than Journey.

It should not be a slam on Journey, but in today's day and age, with the high price of tickets and an aging audience that doesn't put rock concerts on the top of their social event priority list, pairing them with a band or two, is the only logical way to go.

I thought that show was canceled or am I thinking of that beautiful place outside that they ended up canceling? I just know that a show in KC in 2009 was canceled and I was pissed!

Anyway, when I saw them on the Revelation tour in 2008 (with Heart and Cheap Trick), they played to 20,000 in Dallas, 20,000 in Cleveland, sold out the New York State Fair (about 17,000), they had about 20,000 in Charlotte and 26,000 in Chicago. That tour did very well and I can't see any way that "promoters took it on the chin."

Oh, I don't doubt what you said is true. That market seems to suck. Do you know the canceled show I'm referring to?

Edit: I Googled it. It was The Starlight Theatre show that was canceled. Man, that place looked beautiful and I was really looking forward to that show. Have you been there?

In a hurry so will just quote myself from the Neal on FB post:

"Am I missing something here?

Pineda is in the band b/c he can insultingly "ape" Perry, having not created Squat, diving from the drumset to the beat of someone else's music, and traveling around on a karaoke tour copying as many artistS as possible, yet you have issues with Perry, creator/co-creator, choosing baseball "teamS"?

"Bottom line" he helped build the band and he was/is entitled to his feelings. They "made 4 albums", but what do they have to play? Maybe one day the band will write Pineda some hits and he will have his own "30 year" old songs to sing. Then Neal won't have to "swipe" at Perry in fear of his taking the spotlight from them." I wonder if the eastern feel will be something like this. Which aside from an intro and outro is not that eastern.

I have no problem with his feelings. He’s free to feel anything.  I am just baffled that he couldn’t stick to one baseball team to root. Many celebrities are very loyal and you don’t really see them hopping from one baseball team to another. It seems like he has a little problem with loyalty, that’s just my opinion and I am entitled to it.

AP is not your typical frontman and his fans don’t have any problem with him traveling around singing covers because he is doing it for a good cause.

All I know is, AP fans are having a wonderful time and we support AP wholeheartedly, with or without Journey.

As do Perry fans....except for Dan

Chubby I think you most not be a big sports fan??? I have my favorite teams, but if one was using a song that my voice made famous for an anthem to inspire them through the World Series and they asked me to come...I would be honored as I believe Steve Perry was. He has always been a Giants fan but they were out of the running and his ties to Chicago were there from Journey.

I am happy AP are enjoying his run....I just think that the writing is on the wall...it's Perry's band and well one story can go viral in a day.

Maybe you could see that some Perry fans are not all that bad???????

Don't believe you're "baffled" for it seems you just want to find any little senseless thing to try to demean Perry. But I'm "baffled" that Arnel and his fans don't seem know what "loyalty" is. He calls Perry his idol then he insultingly and disrespectfully copy/mock him "note for note" on his hardwork. Most artists are very "loyal" to artistic integrity and "you don't really see them hopping" around the country always copying the hardwork of others when they haven't created SQUAT of their own. They seem to have a sense of dignity and self-respect for themselves and the music.

Okay, let's give him the rerecords. And if that's not enough he felt the need to sing Perry's entry song "Patiently" and his exit song "WCTNGOF", never seeming to have the desire to try s/thing of his own. Maybe he should keep these word to himself "occupy the place of Steve Perry." I believe I read that Sammy Hagar replacing DLR stated that he wanted to create his own....

True, always copying the hardwork of others in the name of charity? Guess he's not picking up paychecks, huh? Your modern day Robin Hood, "steal from the rich and give the poor"?

"All I know is" Steve Perry, a great Vocal and CREATIVE talent whom I respect immensely "with or without Journey," contributed HUGELY to Journey and the replacements have had to copy him and the work he did. AP's fans don't seem to get that. Wish I'd had the opportunity to see Perry, but I did rush to see your guy.

Chubby, you and your army of Pineda only fans are an embarrassment to the band, Journey. The complete lack of knowledge of history, and respect for both Journey and Steve Perry prior to the arrival of Pineda is disgusting. I know this has to bug the shit out of Schon and Cain, but what can they say publicly? Do yourselves a favor and research the past twenty or so years of Journey. You might learn something along the way. Seriously, the Pinhead nation is laughable.

You are barking on the wrong tree. Although many here demean and insult Arnel as a past time, if you look at my all my posts, you will see that I refrain from doing that. You’ve been here a long time and you should know that by now.

With your rationale, cover bands in your eyes are insulting and disrespectful. Jeremy might beg to differ. Do you consider SP as disrespectful to Fleischman? And by the way, SP sounding so much like Fleischman is being hailed here as an “influence” but AP sounding like SP is considered as “mocking”.

AP was hired and only took the job because it’s a chance of a lifetime and a way to provide his family with a better life. And those were the main reasons. It’s not about SP, never about SP.

"steal from the rich and give the poor"?
That says a lot about you as a person than anything else. I hope you did not really mean to say that. AP’s team goes to the remote areas in the Philippines to provide people with medical care, food and clothing. You see it as “stealing”, I see it as “compassion” A person with a good heart. And AP fans are very much willing to donate anything, be it time, money, goods or service.

In spite of the distaste for AP, the never ending name calling, mocking and insults, AP is quietly winning the battle. Last time I checked, Journey headlined and will be headlining concerts with AP at the helm.

When you type what you have ^^^^ it makes you sound like you don't want to acknowledge the huge importance of Steve Perry to Journey...and I think AP would disagree with you.

Rockindeano wrote:Chubby, you and your army of Pineda only fans are an embarrassment to the band, Journey.

It's not about Steve Perry, will never be about Steve Perry. We are fans of AP, plain and simple. Disrespectful? I don't think so and if you see it that way, then that's your problem, not mine.

What have you done lately for the band?

Then Neal won't have to "swipe" at Perry in fear of his taking the spotlight from them." Don't believe you're "baffled" for it seems you just want to find any little senseless thing to try to demean Perry. But I'm "baffled" that Arnel and his fans don't seem know what "loyalty" is. Okay, let's give him the rerecords. And if that's not enough he felt the need to sing Perry's entry song "Patiently" and his exit song "WCTNGOF", never seeming to have the desire to try s/thing of his own.

Well true, if SP did not walk out, if Augeri's voice is not toast, AP might not be even here. But that's life, things do happen for a reason.

Our admiration for AP is not a slight to SP, not a disrespect. Nobody is contesting the importance of SP to Journey.

Just what I thought. You fuckin Pinoys only care about Journey because of Pineda. If he wasn't signed to Journey, you wouldn't give two shits about the band. And yet here you are, calling yourselves "fans" and dissing Perry in all of the Youtube posts. Pathetic.

Myopic Chubby blathered this crap wrote:In spite of the distaste for AP, the never ending name calling, mocking and insults, AP is quietly winning the battle. Last time I checked, Journey headlined and will be headlining concerts with AP at the helm.

Again, a pathetic attempt at making a point. Shall I remind you that Augeri, as bad as he is/was, headlined over Styx and REO too. It's the music stupid, the catalog, not Pineda as to the reason why Journey is headlining. It's the music made famous by the chords of Steve Perry primarily, that Journey headlines over these other vanilla melodick acts.

Ridiculous Chubby wrote:Our admiration for AP is not a slight to SP, not a disrespect. Nobody is contesting the importance of SP to Journey.

Oh really? Go look at all those millions of ridiculous posts by Pinoy fans on youtube, dissing Perry and propping up Pineda. It's sickening that you fucking morons talk the way you do. I remember laughing out loud when all you idiots were saying that Pineda should have been the Super Bowl Halftime act instead of Bruce. I never have laughed so hard in my life. Then your boy went out and played the beer garden for the same game, and he shit the bed. Pineda was awful that day. Please remind me how Pineda is a better showman than Springsteen or Perry for that matter?

Perry sang the hardest catalog in music for about ten years. He did so without tuning down, without being a puss. Your boy was tuning down in the FIRST fucking year of singing with Journey. Give it two more years and he will be done, and I won't have to see you dumb motherfuckers littering the Net with your idiotic messages any more.
