But will it go Gold in it's first day of release though?! :P  If this thing doesn't outsell What If... you're never going to hear the end of my "booyaah"s in your general direction, brothahman!

Eclipse has already outsold What If just off of pre-orders alone.

How are you tracking this, are you making a hash mark every time someone says they pre-ordered it?

Journey will NOT beat Mr Big in Japan and Mr Big will not beat Journey in the U.S. However, you do realize, for the 10th time (at least!), that one downloaded single counts the same as an album sold in Japan, right? In other words, going Gold in a day in Japan could mean 100,000 (that's the Japanese Gold number) downloads of one song. It doesn't mean they sold 100,000 albums. Still pretty impressive, though. :)

Hey, hey, hey!
No using Overseas thresholds for Platinum or Gold, please. No other countries, hemispheres, or so forth come close to the totals required for certification in North America.
Let's keep this count down legit.

If we are not diluting the argument with home grown, domestic artists and talking about international acts, World Wide sales combined very rarely out total US sales. I think the RIAA standards are a fair measuring stick.

chickenfoot sold what about 700k or so and that was a high profile release with a big push by the band and best buy , and i havnt seem anything like the last 3cd set yet, so i think 500k for eclispe will be tough. i like the new direction cant waitt to hear it, but with no hits or live dvd for the casual fan to want , i think thell pick it up look at the song, not see anything they know and go buy a ticket to see them live, as for some of the previous posts ticket sales dont affect cd sales, there just going to hear the hits of thier youth, half of them dont know whos in the band, andas for walmart printing cds, the band does that and sells them to walmart, based on the copies of revelation still in the stores, i bet they did a million gaurantee on the last and might do bewteen 350/500k for this on.
im not ripping them om just stating fact, without a record company buying airplay on major rock stations, most of these releases are never found by the casual fan no matter how good

Great point. Bon Jovi's last CD only hit platinum yet they made over 300 million dollars for that tour because people went to the shows to hear the hits, not to decide if they should buy the newest release or not.

it won't do more than 500.000 but the band probably doesn't care that much...they got the "Generations' approach back...
