being blasted at a party doesn't make someone an alcoholic... if thats the case anybody who lived in the 80's is an alcoholic...

I used to attend a lot of AA meetings in my 20s, because the place I worked was used as a meeting place. I didn't and don't even drink! I learned a lot about the AA program, the personal stories and horrors of alcoholism, and a lot of respect for those trying to clean up and be respectable people again. I never considered myself an alcoholic by being at those meetings though.

Alcoholism isn't like cooties, you don't get it just from attending meetings.

Yes, and it's a good thing, too, or I'd be in a world of hurt by now. Is that your pic, Don?

Yes, That's my Winter hair pic. It was all shaved off a month ago but is growing back pretty quick, so I'll be ready for the Fall again. It takes me about three months to go from bald to back over the ears. Old age, I guess.

Makes no difference to me whether he attends AA meetings or not, but was just wondering how a few people post this as fact on this board all the time. Have you or anybody you know ever actually been to an AA meeting with him? Or is this one of those "my cousin's best friend's uncle saw him at one" talking out of your ass as a factoid kind of thing (a la St John).

Shit, one guy has obviously published a whole book on 'facts' gathered from message boards and other dubious sources.

What's wrong with being in AA? Wasn't a current member of Journey in some type of crack recovery program recently, what's the big deal?

Notta, if you're the member and it is your testimony/problem you're discussing ...The thought of someone going into one of those meetings and then telling the world, "you'll never guess who's in my AA group."makes me want to vomit ...hundreds of people who were considering
seeking help have just backed out reading this!! :?

Luv ya Michie, but I got a chuckle out of that too. Definitely not the part about sharing anything outside of an AA meeting. But the part Don highlighted. Chances are if those hundred people are reading this on the MR forum, 90% of them probably aren't very likely to be seeking help for their drinking anytime soon.

It's dramatic, though, don't you think ...the
effect was good!! :D I am serious about the AA thing, though ...people aren't supposed to
ever disclose their last names ...perhaps Cali AA has different rules!! Ever been to one?!?
They are heart wrenching ...

I do agree that it should never be discussed....in my profession I see people that are sick all the time who I know or know a family member....I have never "told" anyone.

It's against the law to disclose anything about someones medical record...or for that matter that they were even in the hospital. I would assume that people go to AA meetings with the hopes that what they have said...and the fact that have chosen to seek help, should be a private matter.

I guess some think that anything is fair game.
