As far as IBAWY, that's a song that needs a bit of soul to go with it. Not sure if Deen or Arnel have what it takes to do the song justice live.

Deb, get off Don's account.
Arnel's definitely got the pipes to handle the ROR songs with that warm tone.

He's got the pipes but Ithink IBAWY needs something more than that. Like the song "Walks Like A Lady", a little improv goes a long way in making those songs even better live. From what I've seen (so far), Arnel is pretty much a 'by the numbers' guy when he's on the stage.

A click track is paint by the numbers. Elvis could shut his band down with a signal and bring em back like fucking appaloosas on the next. The whole band is
programmed to perform by connect the dots. Maybe that's whats missing....... The singer might not be in control.

Judging from Perry's pitch in the '70s, I think we all know what "little bit" of the brother was in him and where.
Btw, not even he could save that song from the darkest depths of mediocrity.

Well, Perry did like the beat, judging by his back round in percussion. There was the story about Tower Of Power auditioning for a singer and when they listened to the demo from Perry thought he would be the guy until he showed up and they realized he wasn't exactly the color of the voice they had heard.

The gf believes Perry was simply a cleverly disguised big black lady, judging by his voice.

She sounds like shit when she's talking. Even Arnel would have a WTF expression on his face if he heard her.

I had grown up watching British actors on Masterpiece Theater and Dr. Who. When she opened her mouth, I was thinking "That's not the Queen's English, no wonder the limeys felt the need to go up to Scotland and kicked your ass."

  I feel you. I got basic broadcast cable. $12 bucks a month. When I first started I only paid $7 a month. If I wanted the next step up it woiuld be $60 a month. Even so I have several cool digital channels that play old movies and tv series from the 7os and 80s. It's good enough for me.,

Neither do my neighbors, at least not anymore. I was having internet problems the other day, so I called the tech out. He replaced some old connections and when he came back to let me know I was up and running again, he also informed me that my neighbors had installed a splitter in my line and were stealing cable from me.

Read the Generations interviews here which happened after the first weekend of shows and you realize Augeri's voice threw a rod the first night....Neal was steamed too.

There were a few gems in that show, though, mostly the really early stuff and the nod to "People and Places". My favorite, though, was Deen doing "Patiently". That was awesome.

Oh killer setlist and Augeri still sounded decent. Loved hearing the first 4-5 songs off Time 3 in turn.

The boot is worth it for the setlist alone.

 @ Gid. But have to agree, a bit of soul/improv goes a long way. Can make or break a song for me. Walks Like A Lady, now there's one I'd like to have heard Soto do. Same with Stay Awhile. :)

What is there to do with them?
They're not going up or down the ladder when it comes to touring. They do tour well when packaged with other bands. Not top tier venues but still at top 20 touring act.

At retail, they obviously don't give a shit anymore but the back catalog still sells itself regardless.

The band seems pretty content to be where they are right now.

This is a bold step, but if Journey truly wanted to shed their past and be a new band again, then instead of having them tour with the likes of Heart or Night Ranger, you'd want them to tour with more relevant bands such as 30 Seconds to Mars, Kings of Leon, or The Muse. And then you'd have their set list consisting of 70% new material with a few old songs (one of them, of course, would have to be Don't Stop Believing since it's popular amongst the new crowd.) The band would never do this, but I believe this is the only way they could ever truly get people to notice them as the Journey they are today and not so much their past accomplishments.
