The low sales for GH2 at last clarifies Journey's situation: the masses don't want to hear anything beyond the Dirty Dozen, and that includes other Perry-era cuts.
So much for the idea that the disinterest extends only to new!Journey.

True, and you have to remember too, Journey already basically has a greatest hits 1 and 2=Essential Journey.

The could have a greatest hits of the Augeri era, take songs from Arrival, Red and Generations, plus throw in some Perry era with the live DVD.

Same with the new line up. Revelations, Eclipse, plus songs from the live DVD and the extra bonus from the DVD and rerecords off of Revelations.

There 2 more hit packages for the band. Could make it 3 more, do a live CD of JSS and add that one new song he did with them about the pilgrims.

They would never mix up Perry material (live or otherwise) with any of the post-Perry (Augeri / Pineda) tracks ...

The other CDs (except Arrival) were not even on Sony, so you have licensing issues. Plus, both Revelation and Eclipse were released exclusively through WalMart, so only Journey and WalMart have control of those masters ...

With regard to the one song they wrote with JSS, "Winds of Freedom", this was never released commercially and was only performed once for the special occassion concert marking the 400th anniversary of Virginia - therefore, the lyrics were written with that in mind ... It was never recorded as such ...

Before I get flamed, I realize that they had a "writing demo" version recorded with JSS, but this never saw the light of day, and the song was only performed once, so I would never even think to include this in the Journey ouvre / canon ...

Jrny84, can you also tell uss how many copies of Arrival have sold in total (both U.S. and internationally / in total), to date? I've heard so many guesstimates and ranges, that its not even funny. I thought it was a very strong album musically, underrated, and I bought it on the 1st day it was released (4/3/2001). Thanks for the update

Again you have live material that could be used, plus the new line 2 cds with the DVD and bonus rerecord and Manilla DVD are all Walmart, so that could happen a lot easier than Augeri's line up. But again Augeri could be more live from Generations and Red, which would be a treat since we have no offical live cd from those tours. Wouldn't matter who released it.

I have both the live and Demo of Winds of Freedom (thanks for remindning me of the name, I was drawing a blank at work). and while it is not a great song, the demo sounds good. And a live cd with this song as a bonus would be good.

Again I was doing a what if, so sales would not an issue with any of Journey after Perry. But like you, I have heard so many different sales figures on Arrival, it is not even funny. To top it off, and I do not know how they came up with this, but somewhere between 2 and 3 million illegal downloads of Arrival before US release.

About the only thing I could see them doing is releasing a best of post Perry cd via the website, but seeing as how they barely perform any of the post Perry matierial in the live setting it would be a waste of time/money unless they recorded some new shit with it.

My name is Jeff and I'm new to the forums, and just first off, I have to say what a great website this is. This website is literally a gem on the internet for a guy like me, so I just wanted to say thank you Andrew and anyone else who made this possible! Second of all, I figured I'd introduce myself by starting a topic. Hopefully this topic wasn't covered already...

So with the recent release of Greatest Hits Volume 2, although it is a great compilation of great Journey songs, I was kind of disappointed that no Post-Perry material was included. Now, I know that Sony doesn't have the rights to anything after Arrival, but I would have figured that they include some songs off of Arrival. I mean, what a great record! Anyway, I was curious to know, hypothetically, what you all think would be a good tracklist if a Post-Perry Journey Greatest Hits record ever came out. I probably wouldn't include more than 16 songs. Here is my opinion:

8. Faith in the Heartland (Augeri)
9. The Place in Your Heart (Pineda)

The Pineda version of The Place In Your Heart was only available in Japan and only in Disc form, not as a digital download and never released to radio anywhere. With that particular edition of Revealtion only selling about 20 thousand or so copies in Japan and now being out of print, that version of the song should not be on any type of Greatest Hits or best of album.
If anything, Where Did I Lose Your Love (a minor A/C hit) should be included instead.

Wow, 2-3 million illegal downloads!? That to me seems hard to believe. The only number I have is soundscan sales, up to 12/2005 arrival sold 188,000 and estimated todays sales are near 220,000. Sales are probably higher and most likley near 250,000 including all music retail outlets, but this is just a conservative number.

I wish I could remember where I read that. Can not recall if it was in magazine or paper or on line. But it was several years back when Augeri was still in the band and I do not know if Generation had come out or was about to.
I would still like to know how that got that figure.

I think any other greatest hit type things that include anything post-Perry, Live or otherwise, would be part of a boxset type release that the band could choose to release upon retirement that covers the entirety of their career.
