Arkansas wrote:It's not about Journey doing country. It's all about Rascal Flatts doing rock. If any record anywhere sells, then Journey sells vicariously through that. (Look what it did for Tom Cochrane.) If it's on a RF album, some CMT compilation, or possibly a soundtrack, who cares. All Journey is doing is keeping their music alive. And it might net a little bit (smidgeon) of press for their summer tour. Nothing wrong with that.

I'll also add that if Journey is onstage, in person in whatever form or just their music, that it's also publicity for 'Rock of Ages'. Journey's road is no longer about the AP story or creating new music. (That's been obvious for awhile.) Journey today is all about keeping the catalog alive. So whatever the tv spot is, or movie ad, then they should do it. It's nothing but bank.

And I've long said that some of the 'new music' should be in the country genre as duets - 'After All These Years', 'Turn Down the World Tonight' - pick another. Those would be huge country/pop hits. Hopefully JC is shopping those around Nashville some...probably the only way they'll ever hit the airwaves.

And speaking of good publicity, I'd love to see JC do 'Celebrity Apprentice'. That would take the Journey catalog even further. He could not only do it well, but it just might do wonders for his new 'Nashville' career.

I'm not sure how they would embrace the Arnel-led version, there's just something that is not "real" about the current lineup that they might not buy into. And no, it's not about racism - see my first point about Darius, a black man.

I would still love to see a duet between SP and Reba.

Seriously? :lol:

I saw him in concert a couple weeks ago and he was excellent. So yes.. he has been successful at it. :)

Was there any doubt as to what tune would be played? :wink:

It will either help them or will be a total train wreck. It's gonna be interesting, as I feel the spotlight will be on RF's lead singer and not on Arnel.

Well, Rascal Flatts is pretty popular and it is a country awards show. Not to mention RF has performed the song quite a few times already. I think Journey will be more of a novelty with their "All the best cowboys have Chinese eyes" moment down in Dixie.
It's about time for that Greatest Hits sales surge that happens every June anyway.

Rascal Flatts, Journey Will Sing at CMT Music Awards
Their Performance Will Air Live From Nashville on Wednesday Night at 8/7c
June 6, 2012; Written by Craig Shelburne

Journey's Arnel Pineda and Rascal Flatts' Gary LeVox
Rascal Flatts and rock legends Journey will team up for the first time at the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 6).

At rehearsals on Tuesday, Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus told a CMT crew, "I've got to tell you, tonight was amazing because we've dreamed about collaborating with Journey forever. So to be up there onstage with those guys who are heroes. You hate to say 'heroes' growing up, but as kids of the '80s, their music was iconic for that era. I was such a huge fan, so to be able to stand onstage beside some your heroes is the best feeling on the entire planet. You can't describe it. You can't put it into words -- and it's nerve-wracking!"

Joe Don Rooney added, "It is a little nerve-wracking, but what's cool is to see that these guys are as hungry as ever to perform and to play and to make music. It's so cool with [lead vocalist Arnel Pineda] in the band now. It's been this injection. This guy's got serious energy. He's got serious pipes. He can really, really sing and really bring it. It's good to see these guys 30 years in the business, and they're still just dying to get on stage and make music for the fans. I think it's exciting for us to see that."

Gary LeVox concluded, "As a band, they've made some of the most timeless music in music history. So to be able to share the same stage and sing and play with those guys is just a dream come true."

According to an article on Yahoo, that did not happen -

"Journey and Rascal Flatts were announced as doing a "CMT Crossroads" taping together back in January, but that never came to fruition, so fans will have to make do with this far shorter teaming..."

Just touching on the Darius Rucker part of this thread:

===========================
He released a solo R&B album, Back to Then, in 2002 on Hidden Beach Recordings but did not chart any singles from it. Six years later, Rucker signed to Capitol Records Nashville as a country music artist, releasing the album Learn to Live that year. Its first single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", made him the first African American to chart a number one on the Hot Country Songs charts since Charley Pride in 1983. It was followed by two more number-one singles, "It Won't Be Like This for Long" and "Alright" and the number three "History in the Making". In 2009, he became the first African American to win the New Artist Award from the Country Music Association, and only the second African American to win any award from the association. A second Capitol album, Charleston, SC 1966, was released on October 12, 2010. The album includes the number-one singles "Come Back Song" and "This".
=============================

Yeah, I would say he has been a bit successful in the Country Genre. And I love his Country music better than anything he did prior.

Well, except for Scotty Mcreery.

What was that all about? :?
It wasn't a medley, or even really a trade-off duet. Everyone in the band got shortchanged, especially Neal.
Arnel sounded good, except for the penultimate note which was flat. But still, what was the point?
