And by "more bass" you obviously mean more COWBELL!!

Smitty's nod to the SNL skit via his addition of cowbell to the beginning of SIL Live in Houston:

You cut off the best part! "Listen, now listen...."
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I agree with every word of your reply except that. There is one instance were he just looked completely ridiculous. On the Houston DVD during Neal's solo on SIL when Jon is playing rythm and Steve is standing at the keys holding down that single key and acting like he's jammin'. Ordinarily, the keyboard part during that portion of the song is just a single note which is triggered by software and it's held continuously until Jon releases it. But, apparently Perry felt left out during that extended solo portion of the song because everybody else had something to do except him. If it weren't for the magic marker on the key to let Perry know which one to press, he'd have absolutely no clue what to do.  He does look very proud of himself though.  Here's Perry aka Journey's backup keyboard player...

That's also the version of SIL where Smitty decided to add some much needed cow bell to the beginning of the song.

Ha....for us uninitiated...it looked like SP was playing the keyboards, joined in the jamming. Although, haven't seen/listened to this particular sequence for the upteenth time, pretty evident the chrous was canned. Still a cool song.

FM got hammered for his GR remark....and rightly so...being a Journey fan and all. Gregg's duets w/SP in early Journey songs are among important highlights of the band's history. Love his smooth voice.

oh geez ...lol
I think he got out of the way ...perhaps someone gave him something to do, but he needed
a mic ...it never occurred to me that he looked out of place here. Whatever
he was doing he looked confident ...and good!!!
