Question....what was SEATTLE like in the early 90s? If it sucked way out here in RI, what was it actually like in the birthplace? Yikes.

A sea of plaid, everywhere. Hated the whole grunge thing and only recently have I gained any kind of appreciation for Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Again, it was for the young and I was not in the demographic, or maybe I was and was just too into my favorite bands, which I still support. I had also gotten out of music a few years prior to raise my daughter, so I was definitely pre-occupied, thank God, because the music was just whiny, depressing garbage.
The best Nirvana moment for me was when they were on the Mtv Music Awards and Christ Novascelik threw his bass up in the air and it about knocked him cold. I remember laughing at that for days.... I still think it's funny.

What parts are you from? I lived a lot of years in the Puget Sound area, and all through the dirty hair and plaid years. I'm proud to say I never participated in that scene though. 8)

And perhaps Tantra owes a nod to Winds Of March?

I think Tantra is the balladic version of Mother, Father.

If you are gonna liken it to a family member, Dan....perhaps Red-Headed Stepchild would be more apropos.... :P

Along with Someone, the closest thing to 'Journey By The numbers' on this particular disc....and that's not a bad thing. Both tunes are fun songs.

Anything is Possible is definitely trademark Journey. Someone sounds a lot like a Cheap Trick song, just imagine Zander instead of Arnel and there you go! I thinks its a good song. Wouldn't matter if Robin or Arnel did it, it would still be good.

Very true and, you're right, that ain't a bad thing. I think this album offers up something for virtually every fans. Except, of course, for Perry fans. But, hey, they can just waddle right past it and saunter over to the food side of Walmart and pick up a gallon of ice cream. See? Everyone wins. :)

Well, maybe not every fan. No matter how you dress them Tantra, TWIMC aren't love ballads, nothing here is. And some folk are going to be disappointed because of that.

When that AATY youtube video from the radio station in Arizona started floating around, a switch flipped and a lot of people were like, "Maybe Arnel DOES fit in Journey". Ballads are always going to be the main identifier with this band, it's just the way it is.

I'll bet there are even going to be some saddened plokkers too, even though they probably won't admit it. Ballads are and will always be a favorite with that crowd.

Oh yeah, good times. I turned 16 the day Stone in Love was released to radio. Had just passed my drivers test and had my license. Took the car out for my first trip solo and was feeling freedom. Then, that amazing riff comes out of the speakers and it was the first time hearing it! Tellin ya, it was cool.

I know we make fun of today's music all the time here...but do you think the days of getting that license, popping in that cassette(CD), and cruising to some kick-ass song are over? Do kids still do that? I can't imagine it is the same.... :?

I do it weekly actually. I always go for a spin and pop in my favorite CD's when the weather is nice and just go man. That's what I'm doing tomorrow. Going up after school/work, grabbing Eclipse off the shelves, making sure the volume is turned up and just drive man. Can't wait.

Is everyone sitting down?

I'll have a more detailed review later tonight or tomorrow.

But briefly for now, again is everyone sitting down, I hear an average album.

EOTM and COL save this album (with an assist from a few other songs) from being just a step or two above Generations.

You do know Cain has credits on eleven of the twelve songs, right. Just food for thought before you deliver your final verdict.

There are much better songs on this album. She's A Mystery plays the same two styles in one game but starts at a quicker tempo before going nitro.

Did you actually hear the whole song yet? It's starts soft and vulnerable for sure, but turns in to a driving melodic anthem. It's no open arms for sure, and has more balls than faithfully, so I don't know where you're coming from. Also, the whole band gives an amazing performance on this track. It's not the most rocking on the album, but it is the most artistic, in my opinion.

Well, I love me a Journey ballad. It's nothing like a Journey ballad, so why I ended up liking it was the buildup and Arnel's vocals are his best on here. I just think it's a really great song and it's sweeping.

I could take the first seven songs in song placement and just get lost in this album.

I really like Human Feel fine if relaxing with earphones listening to the whole album. Otherwise, it's entirely a minute or minute and a half too long for me.

S2M says no hooks or melodies on this album, but Edge of the Moment, Chain of Love, Tantra, Anything is Possible, and Resonate are instant for me. Hooks, melodies, but not cookie-cutter. These songs randomly pop into my head because of the hooks and melodies. Love them all

Watch what you say to Tito. Apparently he's so dangerous, he's been immortalized in song:

Johnny saw her ridin' on a streetcar named "desire"
His fate was sealed
She could see him comin' like a hundred other liars
It was no big deal
Rosa had a lover on the shady side of town
Tito, he was king of the streets
She was his possession like a jewel on his crown
Johnny better run, better run?

Okay, not that my opinion matters  But I wanted to love it. I gave it a listen a few days ago, before I got the cd today. And today I went through it twice. I even had it going in the car when I had to drive my son and his friends across town to a concert they're going to tonight at the HOB. They said the inside of the album reminded them of something ripped off of Linkin Park's album? I have no idea what they mean though  Nothing really stood out to them, but then they are budding 17 year old musicians, so what do they know!

Anyway, like I said I wanted to LOVE it. But I think maybe it's all the hype that set me up for disappointment maybe. I like parts of it, but then I don't know, I feel like something is missing. I'd say the song I like most is Edge of the Moment, and it's because it rocks in the intro. And I love the guitar throughout. The vocals could be heavier, but it's one that I think will grow on me a lot. I am really surprised at the people saying the album is heavy.... i was really looking forward to a heavy album! And I just don't feel it. Maybe too much other music i listen to is much heavier, and that's part of it. I don't know.

I can see why people like Tantra. It's very dramatic, and a different escape from the other sounds in the album. BUT, ALL I can think of is "DISNEY MOVIE" when I hear it! I can totally picture that song in some animated film in a love scene or something!!!! Or being used at Disney World! And I don't know why, but each time, that is where my mind went!

I need to listen some more maybe, because not much else stands out to me yet. I wish Arnel had a little more "gruff" to his high tenor voice. I do have a problem with that, but I know some love that, and that's fine. I'll see what I think after a few more listens.

I don't think this is a record you listen to in the car with a bunch of distracting teenagers. A glass of wine or a beer and some alone time is when
I like to turn this up and listen to it from beginning to end. It becomes a monster album to me when I have time to really pay attention in a

Um, I didn't drive them BOTH WAYS! Helllooo!! What part of "dropped them off" did you not get! I was all by my lonesome, on my 25 min drive home after, and I listened to it blaring in my car, by myself. I still felt the same way. And as I said, they are budding musicians, so they listened too. They weren't loud teenagers.

And I don't want some album I can sit in a bathtub and relax to.... isnt' that what classical music is for?? NOT a ROCK band! Especially one that is supposed to be a "harder" album.

I need to listen some more maybe, because not much else stands out to me yet. I wish Arnel had a little more "gruff" to his high tenor voice. I do have a problem with that, but I know some love that, and that's fine. I'll see what I think after a few more listens.

I had a different approach to it. I had heard it was a concept album, which I don't care for. It had Hindi influences, wasn't too sure what that would be. I listed to the initial sound clips on Amazon, I think, and they didn't do much for me. I did like the sound of the higher quality ones Andrew put on the front page though. But I still didn't know if I was going to like this record. When I got to listen to the songs in there entirety, they really blew me away. So I came into it thinking I might not like it, but really did.

Anyone notice the similarity in Neal's playing on "To Whom It May Concern" and one of the songs that he covered on his "Voice" CD?

I think Human Feel's problem is that it drags on entirely too long. The radio edit is surprisingly better, IMHO.

Oh man, I'm seriously loving HF. Especially when played as tracked on the CD.

I do understand what you're saying. But it's okay with me that the chorus isn't some Roy Thomas Baker, multi-layered job. Reminds me of The Time, which I also have great love for...

What a great sound - it's like you can almost hear/feel the air moving through the organ pipes, know what I mean?

And I'm quite sure Dan will agree.....

If noone has seen you. If you haven't attended an MR event....you're not real, and your opinion means squat.
