AGREED-ERIC
As much as I still love the band and enjoy Augeri as a front man, not really sure if this is true. It would have been intersting to see how a Trial By Fire tour would have drawn, given the success of the cd (platinum I think), but we can only speculate.

REALLY looking forward to this tour and the New England shows!!!!

Why do you want to go? It seems to me you do not like Journey. You keep saying bad things about the new CD and generally have bad things to say about them. Just wondering...

I haven't posted here in a long while, but had to jump in on this one.
I love the band Journey. I have travelled Thousands of miles across the waters to see them, and after all these years i still love em.
I do prefer the classic era, with Perry and Smith etc, and Perry is my all time favourite singer (by a long way), however i do like Augeri.

I feel that Steve A is a good replacement for Perry, but i have said it on this forum before, he has definately been struggling over the past two years or so. His vocals are just not as good anymore in a live setting. I have numerous shows that prove this fact. He is suffering.

The new release features everyone handling the lead at some stage, and that is happening more and more in a live setting too. Could it be that the band realize that the man is struggling and they want to ease his workrate considerably??

OOver the years i have heard so many great singers, and Steve Augeri is certainly not one of my all time favourites, but he is a good singer.
I would certainly not even dare mention him being in the same league as the likes of Perry, Delp, Rodgers, Plant, etc...He is not in the same class at all, but he has done Journey proud up to this stage.

Odd.
My live tracks from this past tour seem to belie everything you say.
I gotta agree with Neal.
Augeri sounded better than ever this past year.
More control, more range..pretty fantastic.

Out of all the live tracks floating out there, the worst I've ever heard him is the 1998 Osaka show.
What live tracks do you have that make you say he is "suffering"?

Well, I am sorry to say, that you are stupid HOTS.
I am entitled to rank some singers over others. Everyone is.

I am sure Steve Augeri would be completely content with the fact that he is not my favorite singer in the whole world. Doesn't mean he's bad, just means he's not my absolute top favorite.
Are you so dellusional that you believe Steve Augeri truly expects all his fans to swear musical-listening allegiance solely to him and listen to nobody else but?
Following your logic, I guess Neal would take offense that I listen to bands besides Journey and Soul Sirkus, right?
Idiot.

EXACTLY!! Thank you for helping me put into perspective how rediculous this thread is!

Who decided the top 300 singers anyway? Just remember how many best singer/best band polls there are, and how the same handful of artists are always featured - as if people have never bothered looking outside the mainstream.

Ohsherrie:

I could be more wrong than I think, but I'm kind generalizing the overall public, including and especially the younger music fans. When I went to buy Steve Perry GH+5 at Circuit City the day it came out, nobody knew who Steve Perry was at the store - and this was what?...6 years ago...he hasn't done much to gain awareness since then (not that he has to - that is not my point). I just think a lot of Perry fans remember him as the Pop Star of the mid 80's - and he just doesn't have that anymore. You are correct that he shows up in press photos and that he has a great amount of respect from the music industry (as he damn well should).

I just think both sides need a dose of reality sometimes - neither Journey nor Steve Perry are on the tip of the mainstream toungues....not that that matters - I'm just saying, we blow them both up to be much more than they are while on these boards IMO....

And as far as a "Top 300 Singers" - Augeri seems like a great person, and is obviously hardworking and talented...BUT...there have been a lot of good singers, so it isn't even a slap to say he isn't on that type of list (certainly not like it is when Schon doesn't show up on thos kinds of lists)..

I agree with Eric as well. Journey is a classic rock band who appeals to people 30 and up. Sure, there are exceptions, but that is their general demographic. They are not going to replicate the success they enjoyed in the 80's. Doesn't mean we don't love 'em.

Eric,

I agree with everything you said. I wasn't really even thinking much about the under 30 generation in my post. Except of course those who are in the industry and have said they admire Steve's voice.

As a new member I can't believe what I'm reading, Journey Troll. What is your problem.

Steve Augeri is no fill in he is the new Journey frontman, something youn need to get used to.

Not in any reviewers top 300 vocalists. Who cares,(what reviews are you looking at, I would be surprised to see half of my favourites in any list) I personally bthink Arrival is a brilliant album with a couple too many ballads on. But Steve's vocals arev impeccable, listen to the songs and you can hear the passion in his voice. He has taken on one of the hardest jobs in melodic rock, he has replaced a signature voice in the genre. And I for one think he has done a fine job and can't wait for the new album.
