According to "your ears", Perry also hit high notes perfectly when he sang DSB in Chicago (he didn't).
You also claim that Perry is singing backup on "It's All that Really Matters" (he's not).
You're ears are leading you astray in this case, as well.
Other than a minor keyboard part, MOL is not Separate Ways.
I really think you should seek an otologist at once.

Sorry TNC, but it works for my ears as well. The structure of the song fits as well. I have always thought of MOL as SW pt2.

No it doesn't.
Look, if MOL is Separate Ways prt. II then, "The Place in Your Heart" is "Separate Ways prt. III".
Both songs (MOL, PIYH) have just as much in common with "Separate Ways", which is to say, not very much in common whatsoever.

I remember someone posted the lyrics for MOL and SW like this to illustrate the similarity:

MOL: I... walk alone in the dark... without you...

SW: Here we stand... world's apart hearts broken in two... two... two...

The spacing between the words isn't nearly that similar. Perry's delivery is also completely different for both.
Again, minus some *minor* keyboard similarities they are really two different songs.

Definitely MOL and SW are 2 completely different songs with different feels to them. MOL has a dark element to it, a little bit of mystery to it...And a completely cheeseball chorus...Those lines, "Baby can you hear me, can you hear me calling, baby can you hear my message of love?" it sounds almost like a Spinal Tap lyric. The keyboard break in the middle of the song is a nod to Separate Ways, I think Jonathan stated that on the record somewhere. But other than that 2 very different tunes.

I told you that NIG, 13, and Sngrck were all fuckheads as far as it concerns MOL. The song is only SW prt. II to the most inattentive of listeners.

TheNobleTwerp, I'm in your camp on MOL, too....I know I've said as much here another time that the one key riff, that's not even "the same" just recalls SW a little, misleads a lot of folks to peg it SWII. Maybe stylistically it, HP and TPIYH are like minded but musically they're all their own tunes.

Just how "attentive" should you have to be? It's music. If the first thing you here is another song, then there you go. It is the same as hearing Ask The Lonely in TPIYH. It was the first thing I noticed. Did it detract from my enjoyment of the song? Not really. But it is there and it is OBVIOUS. Just like MOL vs SW! It is OBVIOUS. Sure you can hear the differences when you listen for them. But you hear the similarities when you DON'T.

NO! But I was just trying to kill the redundancy, of saying that MOL of copied SW. So I SAID it was the other. There are parts that sound close to each other, and at times it could be a close cousin. But over all I do not think that. As for my speech, trying to type with my two year old in my lap asking what's that, I have to skip speeches a lot of times-ERIC

I'd say it was likely Jonathan rather than Steve as Jon is the only one who has given any perspective at all regarding religion.

With the addition of some young blood in these forums, i thought now would be a good time to dust off the Anthology of Shit.
Anyone care to contribute?

My list...

  1. Can Do - the guitar solo is decent
  2. Do You Recall - the rhythm guitar playing is about as boring as it gets
  3. Homemade Love - the whole thing sucks...Journey at their worst
  4. Back Talk -
  5. Positive Touch - sax doesn't work in a Journey song
  6. Forever in Blue
  7. Don't Be Down on Me Baby
  8. All the Way - sounds like something by Britney Spears
  9. All the Things - sounds like weirded out Journey
  10. Goin' Crazy - ZZ Top meets Van Halen...Decent song on someone else's album

This, and EOTB prolly qualify as the hardest Perry ever rocked.
And I'm not just saying it's great because it's one of only 3 rock songs to be found on TBF.

It's weighed down only slightly by the heavy handed James Earl Jones evangelical intro.
Who the fuck is that anyways?

Okay - shit Journey records...

1) Baby I'm Leaving You

2) All of Arrival

3) All of Red 13

4) All of Generations (except "A Better Life" and "A Place In Your Heart")

5) Back Talk (the only duff track Journey recorded between '81-'86)

6) Anytime

7) Colors of the Spirit (those pan pipes...)

8) Most of the pre-Perry material (I don't hate them - but I'd could happily never listen to them again)

Everything else is great...especially "Escape", "Frontiers" and "Raised On Radio" - which are all totally outstanding, classic albums throughout.

I'm so with Andrew on this one...

As for the points...well, I thought Larry Londin was the drummer on ROR....plus most AOR bands used some synthesized drums in the mid-80s ....Journey have always been a bit 'poppy' which is why critics have always crapped on them....and it was time the band let go of all those pretentious, hippyish album titles anyway....and Ross and Smitty got over it and so should everyone else....and the "certain asshole" was the best thing that ever happened to this band and he eventually got fired too.
