Think I can help you here. I am presuming you might have a webcam or some other means of inputting sound and are running Windows...

Go to -

>Start
>Settings
>Control Panel
>Sounds and Audio Devices

>Now click on the AUDIO tab and check under SOUND RECORDING that your DEFAULT DEVICE is what you were expecting. You can pull down the tab to change the device if it's not.

Same thing happened to me with the new KaraFun program, it was picking up on my webcam and sounded awful. The sensitivity was really high as you described.

Hope this helps.

it was a lackluster weak attempt
Gosh how I appreciate Steve Perry's voice after seeing how damn good is really was....

Here's your acapella set to music. I could have done better with the timing but will try to acheive a better result over the weekend. Hope you like it...

I don't have a studio or anything, just my 58 through my computer. Tough to get a decent sound out of it that way... oh wait, maybe it's me! ;)

Wow sounds great, a really rocking vocal!

I am guessing by 58 you mean you used an SM58 mic - if so, I have the same! What did you use to edit the music and vocals together and did you use any effects (I can hear a slight echo).

Rock on! :D

Hey man! That's pretty cool!! I can see the hair band comparison there, but also a bit of Geddy Lee in there. You're voice sets pretty high, a bit higher than Perry's....Thanks for sharing!

So here's a quick version of Missing You. A favorite song of mine, just always wanted to sing it, but never got around to it with the band. Anyway, excuse the quality of this recording into my laptop (it may distort a bit), but here's my try just for shits & grins...

Holy Crap! I did it and thought I sounded pretty baked (Neal, I really was toast- bwahahaha)
Geddy Lee- I've heard that before when I was younger.
Yeah, Shure 58. My live mic is actually a Sennheiser 865 wireless. It has a lot more bottom end (which I need)
and I should've used it here, but I had an hour to do it while my family was out of the house and I wanted
to get it done. My other stuff's packed away. (How many of you other singers will sing in front of audiences, but NEVER
in front of your Families????)

I used Cakewalk Music Creator and dropped the Mp3 file in there, then just recorded another track with my vocal.
Added some prepackaged reverb from the CW deal and also tried to add bottom end with the Eq.
I DID have to do more than one take to get that note on the last chorus (Caught in a CROSS fire) because I forgot
it was there and did it low the first time.

That's a pretty tough song actually. I have a version of Chain Reaction that I found a few months ago that I did in like,
84 at some high school dance. It actually sounded pretty good. I'm like 43 now and feeling my age in the voice. I haven't
sung a Journey song in a long long time.

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm really surprised. I heard some of the ones posted (IBARWOY/Feeling that way/I stand alone) and was
totally jealous. Great tones there. Thanks again!

Jeremy, you R O C K. I checked out your site a few months ago. You've got a great voice man. I heard some of the impressions too.
VERY VERY cool.
I'd give my left ball to sound like Perry. Oh wait, I think doing the Be Good To Yourself recording, I did just that. ;)

Hair Band???? Is that a compliment???

Man I tried to do If he should break your heart last night and I was croaking like a frog on every high note ! We got lots of rain down here and the basement where my office is flooded. It has smelled like mold down here for like 2 days and I thknk its messing up my stuff. arrgggg. I am glad a bunch of other people are doing this too. I will tell you guys how I have recorded mine.

1. rip karaoke track in to Cakewalk pro audio.
2. Run mixing board in to computer line in.
3. Smoke a cig
4. SM58 mic in to yamaha board.
5. Arm recording channel in cakewalk so you can see and test mic levels the making sure a loud sound doesnt send the levels in to the red too much.
6. Sing !
7. Smoke a cig.
8. Add compresion the to vocal so it meshes with the mix and doesnt sound like its on top of it. Using compression takes some reading on how to apply it and what it does. There is a wiki on this subject.
9. Add Stereo reverb to vocal to give it space in the mix and because most Perry vocals have a fair amount of it.
10. Mix down to WMA file at 128k
11. Smoke a cig.

Hey Thanks Larry. I was listening to it this morning... The vocal is distorted and totally sounds like it was done after the fact. I need to learn how to record vocals...
I ran the mic through a little Beringer mixer into my computer and it sounds like a transistor radio. I had to totally mess with the EQ to get it to sound as wanky as it does.
Hey, if someone's got tips on that, I'd LOVE to hear them.
