Chicago...probably a bigger Chicago fan then even Journey.

Journey

Styx, especially when Glenn Burtnick was with them.

Toto -although their last 2 cd's have not done anything for me.

Sons of Champlin (Bill also has some great solo stuff out)

Favorite Concert:
Toss between An evening with Journey 2005 at the Borgata in AC (not sure about tapes being used, but the show fucking rocked!!)
or
Chicago when Hall and Oates was touring with them. I never saw H&O and was a less than casual fan, but shit they BLEW me away that night. Fantastic and Darryl is a great showman.

Allison Moyet! she was great. What was the name of her band?

Yaz in the US. Yazoo in the UK. I have no idea why tho.

YAZ! That's right. Thanks. (Lol, what was their "big hit"?)

goodday to ya ROX & gang!

(anyone remember Maria McKee? man, what a voice)

Yazoo's big hit was "Only You"...I think....

I love "Show Me Heaven" by Maria McKee...haven't heard anything else by her...

Get the first Lone Justice record. It's what exposed Maria to the crowd. Great great record, still love it after a long time. Their next record (Shelter), aside from the titletrack, didn't do much for me... 8)

I don't hear any DT influences in Spock's Beard but definitely Yes and Kansas, maybe some Gentle Giant and King Crimson as well. I've got a good bit of their music and Neal Morse's solo stuff is good also. Actually, since he wrote much of the music for Spock's Beard, his solo stuff is more like them than current Spock's Beard.

Definitely, the only complaints ive heard about his latest stuff (which i own and love) is that some people dont like his overtly christian lyrics that he now writes.

* on a side note, I saw Neal Morse live in a very very small church...there was maybe 40 people there (it wasnt advertised, I have connections ) , I walked into the bathroom before the thing started, and there he was washing his hands, and he just started chatting with my buddy and I. The concert was more of a concert/church service but it was awesome...had about a 20 minute talk with him afterward. He's a great guy. Even got his kids autographs (that made them happy, and his son was talking about Mike Portnoy, and saying "Uncle Mike has a blue beard...it looks wierd". Great Time

I've always loved how people will say they dislike "overtly Christian lyrics" but then it's okay to have lyrics that are overtly sexual, occultic, etc. Anyway, Morse's post Spock's Beard stuff is really good.

Maria is awesome. I like some of her solo work too, but I agree with you about that first Lone Justice album. DAMN I wish they would have put out more than one good album...She's just a BIT easy on the eyes too, imho...
For me, I really dig the following;
Springsteen, U2, Paul Westerberg/Replacements, Ben Harper, the Clash, Cheap Trick, Prince, Johnny Cash,Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen (all eras save for VH3), KISS, Speedwagon (up till about 80) STYX, Bowie, TOOL, and way too many others to think of...and ...oh yeah...Journey!

DISLIKES: Most current Hip Hop (allthough I dig some of the West Coast 90's stuff - i.e.Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, etc) cookie cutter country, Nickleback and their "new rock" ilk, CHristian rock (I'm down with the Big Man and all, but this stuff just makes me feel "icky") pretentious jazz

Best Concert: Springsteen and the E street band (both 84 Born in the USA and 2002 RISING tours)
U2- Joshua Tree tour / 87
TOOL- 02 in New Orleans - AWESOME show!
Hagar- VOA tour / 84
BOWIE- HEROES tour/ 78 (my virgin concert experience! Adrian Bellew on guitar- I still remember almost every song...)

I don't mind at all the christian lyrics in Neal Morse records. Testimony was a great one and the first song on One kicks ass.
I bought the Testimony dvd, it really is a great show.
I talked about the DT connection because of Portnoy playing drums with him (and with Spock's live sometimes), but you are right telling me there isn't a lot of hints in their music.

Another Christian myself, but simply a fan of good music, not overtly religious in the matter of music.
I loved the second Transatlantic record and I liked their first. But their second is a monster. 8)

Either of you guys ever listen to "Overflow"? Their debut cd is great, probably one of my top 5 Christian cd's. I think they have audio samples at their website, overflowrocks.com

OK here's my list...

Category 1 - bands I absolutely love and will go out of my way to see every time they tour:-

Rush (No. 1 band), Journey (saw them 5 times last month), Soul SirkUS, JSS, Ian Hunter, Paul Rodgers (seeing him tonight), Thunder (seeing them next month), Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gun (unfortunately now disbanded), Jeff Healey, Uriah Heep, Dio, Jimmy Barnes (saw him 2 months ago), Fleetwood Mac, The Corrs, UFO (seeing them next month), Camel, Rammstein.... and a few others who's names don't spring to mind right now.

Category 2 - bands I like and used to follow more than I do now, but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to see again:-

Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Queen, Styx, Cheap Trick, Bad Company (the new version), Foreigner, Led Zepp, Deep Purple.... and a lot of other similar bands

Category 3 - bands I absolutely DISLIKE and will go out of my way to avoid listening to:-

Michael Bolton, Lionel Ritchie, Hip Hop, Rap (except Eminem), Boy Bands, New Romantic stuff (eg Duran Duran and virtually anything that came out of the UK in the 80's that wasn't NWOBHM)

I always like to do these to see how diversified everyone's tastes are. I'm 100% there with those of you who can't stand country and rap, although I do love Patsy Cline and Marty Robbins. Outside of the top 5, there is really no particular order:

Rush
Styx
Pat Benatar
Chris Isaak
The Police
Aldo Nova
The Fixx
The Cars
Loverboy
Frank Sinatra
Alice In Chains
Dishwalla
Sammy Hagar
Van Halen
Whitesnake
Madonna
ELO
Hall & Oates
Collective Soul
Scorpions
Pink Floyd
Heart
Moody Blues
Sheryl Crow
No Doubt
Journey
Night Ranger
Depeche Mode
Ray Charles
Tom Petty
AC/DC
Triumph
Led Zeppelin
The Ventures
The Rolling Stones
Foreigner/Lou Gramm solo
All that great 80's stuff!

Most disliked artists:

Lynyrd Skynryd
The Doors
Janis Joplin
Joe Cocker
Bob Seger
Kiss
Boston

Because I've been in radio for 19 years and they have like three big songs. I don't know they just grate on me. I used to be able to tolerate them, but I'm just sick of them. All their music sounds alike.

In no particular order:

Journey
Def Leppard
The Eagles
Don Henley
Van Halen (prefer Sammy to Dave, but enjoy all the music)
Foreigner
Survivor
Aerosmith (you're not allowed not to like these guys if you're from Boston)
Twisted Sister (I know...strange)
Bon Jovi (prefer the older material)
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Springsteen
Toto
Queen (Freddie only...Get Paul Rodgers out of there!)
Matchbox Twenty (just to prove I do like some non-80's music)
Creed

Pretty broad spectrum. It sucks when I make a left turn and all my mispacked CDs go flying into the passenger seat.

(Mostly I've been listening to XM Radio, so not a whole lot of music lately)

Great collection--I can't believe someone finally mentioned Sammy Davis, JR. Now there was a great performer! There were a lot of them back then, but only I can remember-the rest of you are too young. :) :) :)

At least once, most of my all-time faves have already been listed, as well as my all-time dislikes :) We all seem to share the same tastes :)

There are a couple 'newer' bands and veterans that I didn't see that I think you all should check out, though:

Breaking Benjamin (Debut and Latest are KILLER)
All American Rejects
Explosions in the Sky (Did the Friday Night Lights ST, all instrumental, alot of strat-thru-the-neck-pickup, cranked compression bliss...)
Paula Cole
A Perfect Circle
Alter Bridge
Thornley (and Ian Thornley's first band Big Wreck as well)
Caroline's Spine
Kings X
Jellyfish (Especially the 'Spilt Milk' album)
Motion City Soundtrack (That's the bands name)
Our Lady Peace
MorningWood
The Pursuit Of Happiness (Get their first 3 albums-Moe Berg is genius!)
Trapt
Warrior Soul (First 2 albums-Korey Clarke WAILS!)
Vanessa Carlton (Yes, I said it...)

and last but cetainly not least...
Tenacious D!
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

Beatles, Mccartney, Journey, Cheap Trick, Styx, Sam Cooke, Tonic, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin, U2, Dan Reed Network, Prince, Keane. Only the Beatles would be in the number 1 slot. Everybody else is interchangeable.
