What was Steven talking about?

i think its about Jesus being being born a human on a earth where people rejected and killed him.................

Just went through the lyrics again. That could be the case also. :?

Fuck, now you have me confused.

I had always thougfht it was about Lucifer, because they talk about Armegeddon and the ring of fire and all that....

Jonathan answered this in an interview. "One More" is not about anything SPECIFIC...it's just song about the general hate and turmoil in the middle east.

Ok, I'm in. Mine is kind of a Zen question:

Anyway you want it that's the way you need it anyway you want it...

Does this mean that the way need it IS how you want it, or that how you want it is what you need???

You're right.
But then again, Cain is also on record stating that "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever" was written about the fans.
If u interpret the lyrics literally, that doesn't exactly hold water either.

I've always admired that about Journey...that the lyrics are very often like poetry in that they are not meant to be literal. Take Can't Tame The Lion for instance. Took me awhile to figure that one out.

What did you come up with?

In a discussion another person told me that the song was about Journey's fans. Makes sense when you look at the lyrics- "In a sea of emotion with faithful devotion...you were there." Still trying to figure out if the lion represents passion for the music.

I have a couple of ideas. But I'm not really sure.

Are the lyrics just obvious to everyone else?

Perry said he was waiting to get into the band when he & Neal wrote them. Remember, they told Fleischman he was one of the roadie's Portuguese cousin at that time?

"Here I stand so patiently
For your lights to shine on me
For your song inside of me"

He knew he had great songs to bring to Journey & just needed to get in there & be a part of the band.

"One, one, in a million"

Oh & was he ever! (Sorry the loon comes out in me.)

That is exactly correct. There are two songbooks coming out in December being published by Cherry Lane. One is for guitar, the other for piano. Each book has the music/lyrics to 20-25 songs. They did an interview with Steve a few months back which is included in the books and he talks a little bit about each song that is in the songbook. He talks about "Patiently" and how it was about him wanting to be in the band.

Thank you both. Patiently has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The song has such a feeling of longing to me. It's great to finally know what the lyrics mean to Steve.

Lora wrote:The interviews are really interesting. Some of the same songs are in both books (so some of the same parts of the interview are in both books), but there are some songs that are only in one book or the other. They are songs from Steve's career, so in addition to Journey songs, there are some from his solo stuff and also (if I remember correctly) "A Brand New Start" and "Don't Fight It" are in there.

You know, don't tell Kenny Logins this, but I bought one of his CDs just because it had that tune on it! :D

I will check with Cherry Lane for further info on pricing, etc.

Thanks again, Lora. :)

I once heard that there is a real story behind 'Anyway You Want It'. Something like a personal experience of one of the guys. Don't know for sure. Anyone?

Come together on the journey
escaping darkness, into light
seeking wisdom, second sight

Hear with mind
feel with heart
see with soul
painting pictures in the night

The tapestry woven, entertwined
threads of blue and green
sea and sky
all world's between

Awakened from sleep
from what's devine
the musician, the artist
creating landscapes
through time

catching up to memorie's
escaping the frame
past, present, future
different yet remaining the same

The man, the woman
taking flight
learning to fly
with wings of light

Interconnected
from the beginning
on the journey
never ending

U don't get those lyrics? Did u ever perform? My Dad LOVED that song & he SOOO thought the lyrics were cool for describing the emotions of touring around "performing". He'd been a boxer & he'd been in a band. When I first heard the song, & played it for my Dad, lil 15 yr old me was just starting out in a band (ha ha, it was fun) & I did a lot of theater & performing at the time. Always a different town, somewhere else to set up in, new people to perform in front of. U see all those different faces watching u. Sometimes u look out & there's a part of those faces that get to u. U see an expression, a "look", a thought that crosses their minds watching u & it grabs u, but u never get to know them, even tho some of those faces kinda interest u. Then, there are times when they all blend into one & u can't remember where u saw that expression before, but it has a long lasting trace. Best I can explain it.

"Do you see the faces runnin' 'round to different places?
Are they people that you want to know?"

"Yes, I see their faces one by one.
Yes, I see their joy and sadness.
Every single face there lies a trace of sadness felt before."

Thanks JRox. I'd really never thought of it from that perspective but now it makes perfect sense. To be honest, when I've listened to the song the impression I got comes closer to Larry's explanation. I get this image of somebody walking around stoned on a crowded street. Yours seems more logical.

It might be a bit more personal to someone who has toured. Not to mention the fact that touring can feel like being stoned on a crowded street!!! When I did my book tour & had seminars in town after town after town, day after day, I felt a lot like that. U get so high on the performance but they all sort of blur into one. Another day, another town, another group of people to pull at ur heartstrings. People u want to give something to, want to help, want to touch but u don't have time for all of them. It's quite amazing at first, then it gets blurry. U come off the stage so freaking high, but then it's all signing autographs, talking, sharing, absorbing all these facts about the people u meet. The other day, I pulled out some tapes from soooo long ago while looking for something else & even listening to them now, I remember specific things about the people, even their faces sometimes, but couldn't tell u where they occurred unless I look at the label on the tape & some of them are now illegible. .
