I'm sorry to see this place stresses you out so much. It's a pretty thankless job running a message board. The reality is that no matter what you do, or don't do...someone is going to be pissed off! At the end of the day, you have to do what you think is right for you and the MR forums, because worrying about appeasing everyone on these boards is an impossible task! I can tell you as a BT castoff (my choice), I am VERY thankful for this site. Even though I certainly don't agree with some of the postings here (and really, who the hell is ever going to agree with everything?), I still find it VERY refreshing to visit a place where I can openly talk about Journey without crazed mods sending me emails and not reading the same 5 postings every day about wiggles, positive vibes, and leather pants!

Oh, please. Don't blame BT for what is posted HERE. The people here are responsible for their own actions...BT doesn't control what people say - even if those posters come here to try and start stuff. Having a "blah, blah, blah, made me do this..." is very cowardly. You did it yourself - own up to it.

IMO, the forum is quiet because it has become somewhat one-dimensional. So, when that one side decides to be quiet, the discussion in general becomes quiet. THAT is why a forum like this needs Perry fans, and Augeri fans, and Rollie fans, and Prairie Prince fans, oh, yeah, and JSS fans...if they could all just play nice, then you could have a LOT of diversity of opinion, a LOT of nice conversation, and a LOT of interesting posts...and you wouldn't even need porn threads to keep the forum active.

I think THAT is what Andrew wants...but "play nice' has a direct conflict with "free speech". IMO, people generaly do not "play nice" unless they are given boundaries and rules that are enforced. So, it's a frustrating balancing act between "free speech" and having a "play nice" forum because people want "free speech" but many of those same people don't WANT to "play nice".

So, there, I added another "how to moderate a forum" post. Now, Andrew knows everything is right with the world and it is really not coming to an end.

I think you misunderstood me...
I wasn't 'blaming' BT-the-site for anything.
I was talking about people getting so pissed off at
what is said "at BT" or "by BT'ers" or "to BT'ers"
that has caused the regular MR mainstays to
start fighting amongst eachother AND with Drew...

I like to bash BT at times just like everyone else...
But to get so hung up on things like that tha you start
turning on your friends here out of frustration is just plain silly...

Wow, it's been a little strange to say the least. I know myself that when I log on here I immediately look to see if the interviews are up and the announcement has been made. Every day that I see nothing is new, it does piss me off a little. Maybe there is a build up of frustration that has been slowly brewing. I feel the band is, once again, dicking around with its most loyal fans. It's been around 6 weeks since we thought we might have some news and still nothing. I'm not making excuses for anyone but right now when I think of Journey, I do not think kind thoughts. Frustration and booze can make people say (and write) the damndest things.

I don't know about my best post ever. I kinda like the one about Steve Perry cracking the universe (could make a good Styx song). Here's one from alt.music.journey, from back in 1998, when the Journey mailing list was actually active:

Yes, please go to the Journey mailing list. It is just oh so much
different then this newsgroup! The conversation is so different
you will have a brain melt-down and some guy named Piccard will ask
Sarek to mind-meld with you. while debating with Spock how logical it
is to compare Foreigner to Journey..Of course, in the background, the
ghost of Roddenberry is talking with Gearge Lucas about the in's and
out's of Email campaigns and the fans desire to get albums released
earlier then originaly planned. You can then watch as Piccard of Borg
assimilates the mailing list by creating a hive of long, rambling,
almost unbearable string of posts...As an encore, a few newbies will
post the entire previous digest making for some very redundant reading
So, yes, join the "Journey into Trekland" mailing list. It will leave
you breathless, and speachless!

There ARE some good people there, and some good conversation...But,
don't expect the lunacy there to be any easier to handle then the
lunacy here!

Andrew, dude do not give up. You run a good site, with board and news. i gave up on site for a while, had to take a break (tapegate, health problems, family, etc..) You do have to thick skinned, and not wear your feelings on your sleeves. Yes there are people here that think there view is the right view, and their are some on both sides of the fence. I have some good friends here. And everyone else I take with a grain of salt. I am not into the cussing, and personal attacks, and it either makes it for new people to come in, or they come in swinging. It is like a bunch of roosters trying to set a foothold.

Andrew, I know how you feel. I used to run a couple of websites back in the late 90's/early 00's. The forums were always the biggest PITA. Moderating them was the hardest part of the job. I eventually just came up with a set of rules and hired a few people to help moderate. If you are the only person moderating all of these forums then you have my utmost respect and my deepest sympathies.

Don't give up. This is one of the few music sites I actually enjoy visiting. I'd hate to see the forums disappear because of the actions of a few.

You know I prefer my old one with the phoenix looking up to the JOURNEY logo however since JOURNEY is in a state of limbo it just seemed like it was time for a change.

If a thread interests me I will read EVERY post. No lie. I enjoy EVERY person here. Even the people who clearly hate my guts. So I jumped into this thread because I wanted to voice support for the things I believe in.

I have a simple rule I follow: I say what I believe and believe what I say.

What I believe in may be wrong however if I don't really, truthfully believe something then I keep it to myself. I've been the recipient of several threats on this forum. Do I believe there was malicious intent behind them? I'm not sure. I would like to think not however there's a shadow of doubt and as long as there is then I feel like I need to be on my guard.

You haven't done the UK's reputation in terms of stereotypical attitudes any good at all with those comments. The UK is NOT better than the US. Neither is the US better than the UK (or anywhere else for that matter). Each country has its fair share of thick, intelligent, smelly, sweet-smelling, thin, fat, bigotted, tolerant people, and there's probably a good smattering of each of those here on this forum.

Dean's comments are typical of his expressed attitude to anything non-American, but are not typical of the general attitude on the forum. I've never quite worked out if he actually believes all the stereotypes he spews forth, or if he simply does it for effect, or even just purely as a joke. And I'm not sure which I'd find more disturbing. It would be interesting to meet him to find out if he carries those attitudes over into real life.

However, at least Dean is consistent in this respect (he ALWAYS has a dig at 'Euros') and I've learnt to completely ignore the xenophobic content of his rants. Some of them are even quite funny (I can't believe I'm almost defending him here LOL).

As to your other comments, are you looking to get banned? Everyone is entitled to an opinion here (at least that's what they keep telling me), but your own post complains about squabbles between posters and yet seems designed to generate more squabbles.
