I've been a fan since the mid 80s. I collected baseball cards at the time and had a Jim Rice card. Always thought he looked cool and have been a fan ever since. I love the guys from that period, especially Rice, Evans, Armas, Barrett, Gedman, etc.

OK.
The Oil Can Boyd era was when they and the fans were tolerable, loveable losers.

Don't even get me started on Tito Francona.

Boyd was a character. I think I remember stories about him trying to pick guys off by throwing the ball between his legs. That dude was weird. He HAD to be tokin' it.

Goddammit I hate Boston sports...all four teams chap my ass, especially the Sox. I admit, I loved it when they beat NYY because I despise the NYY, but now, I wish Toronto would pull their heads out and make a run....but neither TOR or NYY can catch the Sox...

The Amgels, Mariners and Tigers can all beat the SOX in the playoffs tho. I wish the Green Monster would blow over and crush that "Raggedy Andy looking motherfucker with the Jamaican Mon beads in his filthy greasy lettuce in left field."

Ok, one question. Dean, where the heck did you get the term "lettuce" for hair from? Until I saw you post about somebody's puffy lettuce, had no idea what the hell you were talking about. Did you make it up or is it some american slang I've never heard of?

A top 3 Deanoism.

I use that term in reference to hair in real life all the time. First I heard him roll it out was 2 years ago in reference to punxatawney steve's hair game on BTM.

I think Cal was the last of the real baseball guys left in baseball when he retired.

I used to be a huge baseball fan. In the '70s I bought a radio that would pick up Cincy from here so I could listen to the Reds every night. I loved that Big Red Machine. Now Pete Rose, one of the greatest players of all time, can never be in the HOF because he bet on baseball. But since Darryl Strawberry, playing on drugs has been (swept under the carpet whenever possible). I have no respect for the game anymore.

I loved the White Sox win for other reasons and thought that might reingnite my baseball fever, but it didn't.

Report Shows Steroids in Benoit's System
AP Sports
Posted: 2007-07-17 15:48:07
DECATUR, Ga. (July 17) - Investigators said Tuesday they found steroids and other drugs in the body of pro wrestler Chris Benoit, who killed his wife and young son last month before hanging himself in the family's home.

Professional wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife, their 7-year-old son and himself in their home on June 25, according to police. Investigators said Tuesday that they found elevated levels of testosterone and other drugs in his body.

Besides steroids, Benoit's body contained the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller hydrocodone, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI said Benoit tested negative for blood alcohol.

Benoit's wife, Nancy, tested positive for Xanax, hydrocodone and the painkiller hydromorphone.

The son, Daniel Benoit had Xanax in his system, the agency said. The GBI said it could not perform tests for steroids or human growth hormones on the son because of a lack of urine.

The test results were expected to shed more light on Benoit's last moments. Authorities said Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son in their suburban Atlanta home, placed Bibles next to their bodies and then hanged himself on the cable of a weight machine.

Anabolic steroids were found in the home, leading officials to wonder if the drugs played a role in the killings. Some experts believe steroids can cause paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage."

Federal authorities have charged Benoit's personal physician, Dr. Phil Astin, with improperly prescribing painkillers and other drugs to two patients other than Benoit. He has pleaded not guilty.

Investigators have also raided Astin's office several times since the deaths, seizing prescription records and other documents.

Before he was charged, Astin told the AP he prescribed testosterone for Benoit, a longtime friend, in the past. He would not say what, if any, medications he prescribed when Benoit visited his office June 22, the day authorities believe Benoit killed his wife.

Very sad.

I have 'NT been slumming in a while!!!!!

As for Bonds............................. He did EXACTLY what MLB wanted. When he was roiding steroids were NOT illegal.

He has passed EVERY test since they illegalized the juice.

Since the roid era middle relivers fastballs have jumped 6MPH.

Its a JOKE but this is EXACTLY what the bosses wanted back in the Bash Brother Days. If you jump all over Bonds you better be prepared to jump all over EVERYBODY that played in that era.

Chances are they were also jucied!!!

So he lied under oath when he said he DID roid AFTER baseball outlawed them?

Then he should still go to the clink for perjury.

No what they should have done is called the owners, Selig and all the powerbrokers of the game who caused this to happen. Their sorry asses should of been the ones called in to testify.

The superstar players did EXACTLY what was asked of them. Then the lesser players all had to do the same to stay in the league.

The Owners, the Players Union and The President Of Major League Baseball are the ones who should be on trial. They are the ones who caused this

Cal played before & right thru that era. Dont be surprised if one day..............................

My favorite player of ALLLLLL Time was Kirby Puckett. In 1986?? he hit more homeruns in April than he had in his ENTIRE professional career. From leadoff slasher to power guy in a matter of months.

Look at the list of players from that era look at their minor league stats. It is TRULY amazing how their homerun stats SOAR. The Boone Brothers. Gonzales(D backs) pick a player its unreal.

Look at the pitchers and how their velocity jumped. In particular the middle reliver.

Roger Clemens??????? You tell me???????

Just to keep up with the jones the fringe guys had to use.

Shit Rueben Sierra was a superstar BEFORE he got on the juice. Once muscled up he couldnt hit any more. He had to cycle down to get back in the game.

For every 3 guys it helped, it hurt 1.

One day the truth will come out!!

Behind it all sits the managers, the owners, the agents, the players union & the Commish. Every one of em knew what was happening!!!

The end must be near. I actually agree with Deano on a couple of things, Bonds is a king shit and the Boston teams suck shit!

Bonds along with Terell Owens are the two biggest a-holes in sports. And the Red Sox and Celtics suck.

The fans in Boston are some of the most obnoxious fans on the planet.

If I had my way when Bonds breaks Aaron's record every fan in the stadium would turn their backs and walk out.

I agree with everything you said. TO and Bonds should both be forced to play in Cleveland, for those obnoxious fans.

Pull that phallus out of your ass a minute.

You mean to tell me that a bunch of drunken slobs in the endzone, beered up, wearing dog masks, and throwing Milk Bones at John Elway aren't obnoxious? Calling their section the Dog Pound is one thing, but acting like lost Tards escaped from the crazy house is another.

It took Sam Wyche, the head football coach at Cincinnati, to get on the microphone at Riverfront Stadium, and calm his own fans down one game, saying, "Knock it off! You don't live in Cleveland, you live in Cincinnati!"

Cleveland is a shithole and has shitty fans, period.

One of the best ever soundbytes by Wyche.

Sad irony is that Cleveland fans never did what the Cincy fans did that day.

Hey shitwad, you were right about Bonds and Boston teams, those are the only two things you've ever been right about in your life and will no doubt be the last thing your ever right about.

Sam Wyche is a major dumbass. Cleveland doesn't have riots like Cincinnati does. Cleveland has some of the greatest fans in the world, be it in sports or music. There is nowhere on earth that I would ever want to live than Cleveland.

Dan Reeves is the classless shit that encouraged his players to taunt the Browns fans. A few milkbones never hurt football players in helmets and full pads.

Mike Ditka has said that Browns fans are the greatest fans in the world. Clevland sports and music fans are ALWAYS named as being some of the best in the world.

Lets see, the Cavs just went to the NBA finals, The Indians are only roughly a game back of the Tigers, the Browns just had the best draft in the NFL back in April and are being considered one of the teams to watch to this year.

Who holds the record for the most consecutive sellouts in MLB history, um, gee, could it be the Indians???

Who has the next Michael Jordan, um, might it be the Cavs???

There are a lot of Clevelanders where I live, and they have their own get togethers at a certain bar and they are called the Browns Backers. The ones I have met, and those being quite a few are good people, but when the game comes on, they define obnoxious. Just like these sports facts you are boasting about in this post that mean nothing. Next you'll brag about the Bulldogs national championship in '25. There is no doubt that Cleveland has some of the most loyal fans in the world, but along with their loyalty is obnoxiousness. There are a lot of towns that way, so don't worry about it. New York has obnoxious fans, Philadelphia has some of the most obnoxious fans in the world.
