This may very well depend on HOW LONG HE CAN KEEP IT UP. Which was the case with S.A.

Sure he can do some karaoke a couple nights a week. Sure he has a great vocie, nobody can deny that. But can he do it night after night after night! From what I understand, the reason SP would not want to do a Journey reunion (besides the hatred amongst the members), is that he would not be able to perform to the expectations of the fans night after night as his present age. Moreover, as is the case with vocalists, he has lost most of his high range and would not be able to sing the songs the way he wanted to or the way fans would want him to. Studio..I'm sure he can do anything still, but live night after night, I don't think so.

Considering the guy has been singing 6 out of 7 nights for the past few years night after night singing requests handed to him by fans, I think his voice has acclimated to the work. Studio or not, it would seem that, even at the age of 40, that Arnel Pineda can contribute to what Cain calls, the "heritage sound."

Anyway...nice board for the most part-there seems to be a small number of internet terrorizers that love to tear down instead of build up. IMHO while they do what they do, it won't mean much to what Journey will do.

I'm sure that the "masses" will continue to support Journey, it's what the masses do until that group stops performing...until it's time to perform again like say...The Police. Journey will tour again and Mr. Pineda will transition from just an Asian Sensation to a bonafide member of Journey at least that's how I see it and now it seems there is a growing contingent who agree or at least is willing to find out.

Arnel's vocals are fine. His stage antics from the youtube vids are flat out pathetic. However, stange antics you can work on and develop over time. But let's be serious, he's going to have to prove his vocal chops first, if he comes out on stage jumping around and singing, he will get laughed at. I hope for the first few shows he just sings his ass off and gains some credibility, then he can slowly work on the antics.

His vocals are pretty damn good, but his diction is lousy and his stage presence is non existant.

I'm sure that there are some SENIOR members that have effected some change no matter how small, it's change. But none of that helped JSS stay where he was, and even though, there have been callous words used against the guy that Journey tagged to be the next lead, it hasn't stopped them from publicizing the move, or from other people joining to see what this is all about. The bad noteriety some of the board members perpetrated here and elsewhere didn't do much except soothe hurt egos and bring more attention to Journey. Attention and publicity benefits Journey and Azoff. According to nationmaster.com, there are 83 Million People in the Philippine Islands. If anything, the people there have shown that they will support a favorite son who is making noise in the United States. The same way they support Boxing great Manny Pacquiao(currently ranked #2 in pound for pound best fighter in the world), they will support Arnel Pineda. According to Claritas.com, There are over 2 Million people of Filipino descent that live here in the US that will support as well. Add to that, the people who are willing to give Arnel a chance means that the small contingent of rabblerousers are greatly outnumbered. No one is saying that those opinions shouldn't be said(at least the ones that don't include insensitivity like say dogeating, cheap outsourced labor et al.)
So lets say 1% of 85 Million people buy the next Journey album. That's 850,000 sales right there not including the people who are just willing to give Journey a chance. There are tons of bands out there that would kill to have that many sales.
850K isn't that far from a million, it's not that much of a strech to see Journey succeed with an Asian performer. Of the top of my head, there are other singers of Asian descent that are playing in mainstream America that are succeeding. The Pussycat Dolls have Nicole Sherzinger, Linkin Park has Mike Shinoda, The Black-Eyed Peas have Apl. De Ap, and Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Arnel Pineda could be the next one...strike that...will be the next one. at least IMHO. I couldbe wrong...but what if I'm right?

ed, in my very first posts, i said why i am here. it is in plain and simple language. this is a journey forum. the rules does not say i must engage in ALL topics relating to journey. all it says is that my participation is within the bounds of normal decency. if i favor a certain person, and chooses to defer againts the preference of the majority , would that be considered "nuisance participation? If i choose to do a rebuttal on a certain proposition wouldn't it be a fairer presentation of the subject matter when both sides are being deliberated instead of a monopoly of one thought? Yes, i represent "the other side of the coin" but unless i presesnt my thought in a manner that is disrespectful, then i have just the same rights as anyone here to post to anything i want to engage in. As a member , i have the right to agree and disagree. I do not subscribe to a monopoly of thought. If this board however was specifically created to favor only a certain person but not the other, then, by all means let that be clearly stipulated within the rules so that I may exit promptly on my own accord.
