Dude.
Canton. Hall Of Fame.

Come on.

Cincinnati is nearly as bad as Cleveland. The crime there is horrible. It's also funny to note that the Cincinnati airport is actually located across the river in Kentucky. :D

And THAT's why I live near Columbus! 8)

Hey Rhi...who do you have for SB XLII?? I would ask John and SotoAllTheWay, but those would just be enormously stupid questions.

This made me laugh. :D

Three quarterbacks, Peyton Manning, Tony Romo and Tom Brady, go to heaven to visit God to watch the Celtics play a game. God decides who will sit next to him by asking the boys a question.

God asks Peyton Manning first: "What do you believe?"

Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans."

God can't help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to his left.

Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, "What do you believe?"

Tony says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields."

God is greatly moved by Tony's sincere eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right.

Finally, God turns to Tom Brady: "And you, Tom, what do you believe?"

Tom replies, "I believe you're in my seat."

Commercials

Postby Angiekay » Tue Jan 29, 2008 3:23 am

I'm too lazy to go back and see if this has been discussed, but here are the price tags for commercials this year. Obscence.

The rate for a 30-second Super Bowl is up again, reaching $2.7 million from $2.6 million last year, as companies line up to shell out big bucks to get their message seen by the more than 90 million people who'll be tuned into the championship game on February 3rd. The advertisers not only want to reach all those eyeballs, but also hope to create some buzz with the creative commercials that most put together for the big game and that have became almost as much a part of the Super Bowl experience as the game itself.

Among some of the spots that will be running:

Anheuser-Busch will be airing seven spots, six for Bud Light and one for the core Budweiser brand that will feature the trademark Clydesdale horses. The Bud Light spots will include one about the beer giving people the ability to breathe fire, another about it giving them X-ray vision, and another that shows cavemen stumbling upon the discovery of the wheel as a way to move their stone cooler to a party. The Clydesdale spot will show a horse that didn't make the final cut to join the team who trained with a Dalmatian for a year.
Tiremaker Bridgestone Firestone will feature an ad that shows a car accelerating towards Richard Simmons as he dances on a road at night.
Audi, which is returning to the Super Bowl after nearly 20 years, which run an ad with a Godfather theme.

This should be the most watched SB ever, with two big market teams and history on the line. I can't wait.

While I agree that the rates are beyond exorbitant, it's hard to disagree with the success of some of these commercials! Godaddy was a company that wasn't even on the map a couple of years ago, when they ran their first ever tv commercial, during the Super Bowl. When I last checked their market share, it was over 50%, so their ROI (return on investment) was ASTRONOMICAL! They went from a fledgling company, to the number one company in their area of expertise, just because of the exposure they got, through marketing their company to a Super Bowl audience! The power of these commercials can't be underestimated, from a business standpoint! The reality is that there are many people (myself included) who never watch one single commercial, throughout the entire calendar year, but watch every one of them, during the Super Bowl!

Giants will definitely lose now.

TISCH SAYS GIANTS WILL WIN
Usually, the practice of guaranteeing victory is for the participants in a sporting event. This time around, however, one of the men who holds the title to one of the teams in the NFL title fight is providing a prediction about the outcome of the game.

On Friday night, Giants chairman Steve Tisch told the Bergen Record that his team will win Super Bowl XLII.

"I'm not going to give you the score," Tisch said. "We'll have more points than they do. That's my score."

It's not blind boasting. Tisch backs his beliefs with reasoning that lacks no persuasive force.

"We're getting stronger, we're getting better and we're performing as a team with confidence. Eli [Manning] is taking more of a leadership role, week after week. This is not a team that peaked at midseason. This is a team that's been on the road, as underdogs many times, and has succeeded 100 percent.

"This team has played with heart and pride and dignity and strength, and I feel those elements will get us the 'W' on the third."

In any other year, we'd agree whole-heartedly. But this is the Year of the Patriot, the season in which a team has won 18 games and lost none. The throng of voices predicting that they won't finish the deal will do the Giants no favors, since it will only provide the Patriots with more motivation to get the deal done.

Under the traditional approach to pre-game jibber-jabber, it would be far better for the Giants if everyone were picking against them, and if no one in the organization were suggesting that the team could win.

Then again, maybe a New York team is the best kind of team to talk tough -- and to back it up. We're still not sure who we think will win the game next Sunday, but if the Giants pull it off football teams at every level would be wise to ask themselves whether the benefits of expressing confidence outweigh the risks of giving the opponent bulletin-board material.
