Hi there styxie. Just remember the same thing happened when JSS joined. It was just as bad then.

Journey was going to re-record the hits when Jeff was part of the band, I still didn't agree with it. As much as I am a full fledge support of Jeff, I just feel classic hits should be left alone.
Very, very valid point(s). However, there is a huge contingent that have never heard these songs before in Asia...mainly in the Phillipines and surrounding countries. These discs will sell like hot cakes, making this incarnation money and the classic lineup money as well. This is a winner across the board. And believe me, I asked many Filipinos this question and most said that they hadn't heard a lot of the songs played. Most knew only 2 or 3 songs. I suspect the worldwide sales for this package will be fairly huge.
The fact that they have to sell to a whole different market to make a buck should signal a warning bell, shouldn't it?

No. Sales are sales are sales. Should they also start rapping on their albums because "hip hop" dominates the airwaves. Journey made a tremendously bold and risky decision and I have a feeling their reward is going to be
HUGE in terms of money. And that's what corporations are supposed to do...make money.
Well, if it's just about the money, then they should definitely rap on their next album if that's what it takes to make serious money. And if what you're saying has any valid points, it means Journey is more or less a corporation and no longer a band in it for the music. Which to me, is a very sad state of a band. The band has become a corporation and not a rock band.
They're a band
looking to make money. I don't see the problem here. Everyone said there would "no new music." There is. Everyone said they wanted a DVD. There is. They have a singer that can sing circles around the last 2 singers and will give them bigger worldwide exposure and keep the core U.S. fans happy. This is hands down the best state the band has been in since 1987.
PS And for the retard that said "Jeff is too good for Journey" I would encourage you to write management a letter and openly thank them for releasing him then. What a ridiculous statement.
I think you're drinking the kool-aid a little too much, but whatever makes you happy dude. I certainly hope Journey proves me wrong, but Journey's had almost a decade to be commercially successful since Perry left and it hasn't happened. AND IF Journey is all about making money, then to not be a commercial success means failure. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Journey with Steve Augeri, and supported JSS 100%. But, after the boneheaded move to fire JSS from the band, I realized it truly was all about the money. It is not all about the music. If you're fine with that, then get ya another glass of kool-aid and reach deep into your pockets and don't forget the pom-poms. Arnel will get them no more world wide exposure than what they have already had in the recent and distance past. And believe me, the "core" US fans don't exist past this forum and Journey's "official" forum. Half of the concert goers don't even know Steve Perry isn't in the band anymore. This is definitely NOT the best state the band has been in since 1987. Maybe the best state it's been in since 2005, but that's about it.
And look, none of this is directed at Arnel Pineda. I think he has some good pipes and is a very talented human being. But, honestly, aside from JSS (and we will never know obviously now) the only guy that could make Journey as successful as what you really hope they will be would be Steve Perry himself. Arnel will provide the band with enough to pay the bills and buy an extra bottle or two of grey goose, but to earn them serious cash and make them even remotely what they used to be, it's not going to happen. You'll get new material that you'll listen to for awhile and then go back to the Perry stuff. But what good will be if it's not the magical Journey stuff that made them so hot in the 80's? Sure, I can't prove that JSS would've been the missing ingredient, but I believe he was.
PS And it's quite ridiculous to say Arnel Pineda sings circles around Jeff Scott Soto. That's wrong on so many levels that it's not even funny.
