It's not a deciding factor for all, but it is enough for me to see that this young girl has just had her whole life turned upside down in more ways than one, and IMO a mother should love her child more than politics call me whatever you all want to I will always stand by what I believe as you should stand by what you believe.

The girl is almost 18 years old and getting married. It's her and her husband's life at that point. What can her mother do about it?

I gotta say that the one thing in all of this that bothers me a little is that I have yet to see pictures of Palin pregnant from last year. Every picture or slideshow I come upon with her either skips those months, or only shows her close up during this time. Has anyone actually seen a picture of her pregnant? I'm not necessarily trying to give credence to the "Her daughter gave birth to Trigg" rumors, I'm just wondering why there seem to be no pictures of her in the family way.

How are you discerning the level of love she holds for her child? None of us here are a member of the Palin family nor should we attempt to think we know what goes on in their home when the world isn't watching. As I said, it is none of our business. This election should be about strengthening our nation and intelligently choosing a candidate who we feel will do the better job leading our nation based on views, issues, ideals, and abilities. Not on the private lives of their kids.

She put herself under the gun by engaging in risky behavior that left her pregnant. Her mother is doing the right thing by supporting her. She was nominated for the Vice Presidency and had to disclose this information or it would've come out in the press first, which would've made the situation even worse.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. She didn't have her life turned upside down. SHE turned her life upside down by apparently turning her body in other ways. If she'd have kept her clam covered then this wouldn't be happening. To say her Mother did this is simply laughable.

From experiance of being a mom of two teenagers of the same age, it is not Mom's fault. Teenagers are very head strong, and even if you are there, paying attention, and love them they can find ways to screw up their lives. You cannot hold an 18 year olds hand 24~7. They would bolt, or become messed up for other reasons. You can raise them the best you can and they can still make poor decisions. This is the age they experiment more than ever. If you think you can control everything an 18 year old does be my guest. My guess is 20 years down the line, they will be sitting around the table telling you what went on behind your back.

Precisely, SP was called on to serve, she wasn't actively campaigning for VP. When your country needs you to serve you step into the arena and try to balance things. You didn't hear Molly Pitcher say to General Washington, no Im not standing at this cannon because I've got too many other responsibilities to balance, nor did any other patriot in the history of the county male or female who had pressing issues back home.

What are you depressed about? If you and your family are healthy, that's all that matters. Job, money, friends, all those things are transient stops in life, not meant to be stressed over. :D

Teen pregnancy rates actually have been down for quite a while, since the early 90's, and if I remember right, hit the lowest around 2004 I think. I've taken care of many pregnant teens in my 14 years as a pediatric nurse so far, some even younger, youngest being 11 years old, and from ALL walks of life. Can and does happen to anyone, despite how they are raised. Palin's daughter's pregnancy shouldn't be an issue one way or the other as far as her being McCain's running mate, and I don't see it as giving the idea that teen pregnancy is just fine & dandy, but that's JMHO.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the developed world, America lingers at the top when it comes to teenage pregnancies. Here is a BBC article that touches on the subject.

So how many people here making negative comments toward this themselves were having sex at 17? I'd say many young people are having and over the past many years have had sex by 17. It only takes one time to get pregnant and no birth control is 100% and I just don't see how this reflects on her mother and her political views at all. She is her own person with her own brain and we don't control anything our kids do at that age. We like to think we do, but we really can't be with them 24/7. We can teach them with all we know from our own experiences and hope they listen, but that is no guarantee.

I wasn't and even if I was, what difference does that make? Is it wrong to have learned from your own mistakes? Does that make it wrong to have an opinion about it?

My point is you can have your own opinion, as the governor does, but that doesn't mean you can project it on your children and they will 100% do what your experience tells them. Most teenagers do not listen to mom and dad, that is a fact. And I wasn't having sex at 17 either, but I KNOW I was in a minority. I was more talking about negativity towards the governor, not negativity towards abstinence. Of course everyone wants abstinence for their kids, but it's just not realistic to think that they will practice that just because you tell them they should.

Wow, the last article I read here at work stated it between 21 & 22 births per 1000, not 44. But that was interesting to read, thanks.
