This guy came and did an interview on one of my shifts and did an acoustic version of the song with it... I think the single made the Billboard country charts Top 10 for a few weeks. I just liked the lyrics.

These guys did the same thing... one of my favorite songs I ever got to play. Didn't last long on the charts, but I spun it regardless. :)

There is alot to be proud of in the Augeri legacy, the Generations tour isn't one of them.
Every moment he went live it sounded like he was gargling shards of glass.
This performance is 100% tape.
Only ONE song was sung by Augeri in its entireity during 2005 (minus the first few shows).
That was LTS.

The difference is soo obvious.
I don't know why Augeri's most staunchest of die hards weren't all over this.

HOLY Crap. I'd never heard this one. Damn, obvious is definitely the operative word here... Ugh. Love the guy's voice on record, but wow, you can really hear how things were monkey'd with here.

What a sad chapter in the band's career.

If you want to hear Augeri at this show w/out the audio sweetening hand of Elson at the control board, pay attention to 2:47 and 4:36.

Look how Neal doesn't pay ANY attention to him. You can tell that the Neal and Steve were just walking on eggshells. I've got a Florida video and it's the same way. Neal doesn't smile at all and totally avoids Augeri... damn. Sad sad SAD.

Much different band than the one that visited Seattle the other night.

Yeah, I mean it was all crap what happened, but the guy physically couldn't do it, yet the band (ALL OF EM) were pressured to keep the train rolling. You'd think there'd be a bit of understanding there among each other at least on stage. I still like Augeri, I still respect his recorded works, but what a friggin' drag for him and all of Journey.

Well I know that NOW. It was more about *me* not having the nerve to talk to someone famous. I always feel dumb, so I just stare and let them get away. That's what happened with Noah Wyle. Still kicking myself on that one.

I know everyone has asked Neal & Co. about Augeri's lipping. Has anyone asked Augeri the question, point blank? By everyone's account, Augeri is a decent and humble guy. I would think he would want to come clean with his hardcore fans and set the record straight. Or does he have the old "gag order" in effect? Hopefully, if he's back to singing these days, he's doing it without tapes!

I can tell you a few things here. First, I had a few friends that heard Augeri at the JTTC event, and while he sang rather well, the concensus was that he was about 75% of what he once was. The catalog did a number on his voice and screaming into a microphone that wasn't on with an already trashed voice probably did permanent damage.

That said, I'd bet my retinas that he can't comment about Tapegate in anything other than an ambiguous manner or he'll have a team of lawyers at his door faster than Heath Ledger into a bottle of pills.

Personally, I wouldn't be so disrespectful as to walk up and hit him up (or any musician) for dirt on band drama and I certainly wouldn't bring this up. It's just rude. That's a pretty quick way to get disrespected right back, if you ask me. It's over and it can't be changed now. I've avoided the posts that point out the tape stuff for a reason... to me, it just doesn't matter now. What happened happened, can't change it, and some don't have to like it but all parties have moved on to other things now. Feel free to take this whole post and apply it to Perry and Jeff also. I wouldn't ask Augeri about this any more than I would ask the other two singers about those situations.

Augeri NEVER sounded "Perryish"! Perry could actually sing the catalog. Augeri couldn't sing it even before his voice came up on a milk carton!

Excellent summarization.

I'm sure whatever happened wasn't Augeri's idea. Easy to point fingers and say what we would or wouldn't do but we weren't under contract as he was. But for anyone to think it was only SA's doing is ridiculous.

Hits or not, he cut some great tracks and I'm glad to have them.

Well, if that's how you feel, more power to you. I don't agree, at all. For starters, comparing Augeri's situation to Perry's and Jeff's is just ridiculous. While nobody ever leaves Journey under good circumstances, I don't recall any of their past singers being accused of lip syncing on stage and passing it off as a live concert! When you live your life in the fishbowl of a rock star, you're fair game. Asking Augeri (or anyone else) about their personal life would be "disrespectful" and off limits, as far as I'm concerned. Asking them about accusations that have been widely reported are fair game. Everyone asked the Patriots last year during spygate if they were cheating. Why the hell can't someone ask Augeri if he was cheating? I would think the guy would at least want to defend his character!
