well Randy Jackson said he had heard some of the new Perry songs. And the Steve L of Toto said he has heard Perry sing this year, and the man stil has it. So there are two "sayings" there.

And this is exactly how the "SP keeps teasing us by telling us he's releasing an album but then doesn't" BS gets started. Some intern at VH1 was probably surfing the Net, read the comment from Mark Goodman and came up with this news flash. SP has never said he has a album ready for release. He has said he working on material and that is true. Until I hear it from him that it's in the can, I'm not going to take what VH1 (or anyone else) says as anything more than gossip.

Hey sister, you didn't have to take the wind outta everyone's sails you know? I understand you are protecting SP here and I understand it, and I was saying to myself, that you needed to come in here and dispell the rumours.

Thank You.

The only reason I even saw this post ^ was that I scrolled fast to see if anyone else said THAT ^ before I came in to say the same thing. You guys just kill me with your replies every time a rumor surfaces...

"Some intern at VH1" is about right, JUST like it was some random DJ who reported it after reading that GQ article... they cut out the source they got it from and they repeat it as "Steve Perry said he's releasing and album..." when in reality, what they should be saying is "I read in a magazine that an interviewer said that he heard another DJ say that Randy Jackson said that Steve Perry said that he didn't realize a recorder was accidentally running when he was singing in the shower."

Somehow that translates into "Steve Perry is releasing an album with 28 songs and 65 bonus tracks by Christmas."

This is not to say I don't believe that SJ heard what he heard. But the three pages of reactions to it are funny as all hell. (You posted this just to entertain yourself, didn't you Dan?? ) I LOVE the Perry rumors. This is great entertainment. NOT that it wouldn't be great news if it were true, I'd love that, but... I'm not so hinged on it that I'm about to believe anything a DJ, a VJ or a magazine writer says just because I want it to be true. Come on, how many times are you guys going to fall for this. When STEVE opens his mouth, THEN have a 30 page thread about it (I'm not making fun by the way - I'm having fun WITH you all, not "at" you all).

Absolutely!!! I have zero interest in this dude outside of Journey. He's very average without them and has almost 25 years of unsuccessful solo projects to prove that. If he ever had the balls to apologize to those guys and return I would be the first person in line for the reunion tour. But I doubt that'll happen..."so fuck him."

You went to his show in '94 (twice if I remember the conversation right?). No Journey then.

Kinda harsh, and not entirely accurate..but I get your point. Even if it is in the classic 'SJ speak'. Both parties feel like the were wronged. I doubt an apology is coming from any one involved unless the money starts to run out..and we know that won't happen. Ya know..when Hell Freezes Over? 8)

Several things:

1) I went there to hear him sing Journey songs (just like everyone else  )

2) I didn't realize that he was intentionally touring without Journey. I figured they didn't want to tour so he went out alone. I would have still gone had I known this. I would have just held up a "You're an asshole" sign at the end of the show.

3) I saw him 3 times.

Wasted? :?:
DSB just set a record as the most downloaded song ever and the GH album is certified DIAMOND.
Wasted?

What does he need a website for? Just because the rest of the world has websites, probably HALF of which are not in any way necessary? Maybe he doesn't want one??

SJ, time again for you to go to that corner for a timeout.

I'm thinking about this latest false-alarm episode ... you know how the casual fans out there get names mixed up and starts throwing news out? Remember the Joe Perry incident? Could be the guy heard about SA's pending release (I'm following the Steve Augeri Rules thread) and mistaken it for SP?

Agreed. He's his own worst enemy when it comes to the rumors. It's always "I think about it all the time", "I've gotta see what I have left", "I've been practicing scales", "I've been doing a lot of writing" and then...nothing. Couple that with his various outlets periodically purporting that "he sounds as good as anytime in the mid-80's" and it's pretty easy to see that he does this to himself. It's all very self-serving, though. It perpetuates interest, strokes his ego and keeps the Loons moist.

The most authoritative quote supposedly from the man himself comes from the GQ article in May 08 written by Alex P.........(don't ask me to spell that name) "He Didn't Stop Believin":

" I get a slightly different take from Steve Perry, who calls from his home near San -Diego. Perry, who’s finally started working on his first album of new material since leaving Journey,..."

No date of release. But a confirmation from SP he is working on an album. At least, that is what he said....(Yeah, I know, huge blob of salt. After all, this was in response to the hullabaloo about Arnel....)

So, Lora, what do you think? You think there is a snowball's chance in hell the material Steve is working on may ever see the light of day???? Yeah, I know...when we all see it, right?

 :? :(

I think it's a combination. I think he does interviews like GQ to keep himself out there and to make sure people know 'his side'(if you read the interview, he more than once makes sure the author writes specific phrases and thoughts down, almost making a big deal of it). I also think when an interview is given, or one of his 'associates' talks to him, or hears something from him, it tends to take life on it's own on when they talk about it on the a board, or in the press. They may not do it intentionally, but when they say something like 'he sounds as good as he did blah blah blah', it sets an expectation that he would want to do it again. That GQ interview told me quite a lot actually, and one of the main things I got from it was that he just appeared to hate the lifestyle that goes along with fame. Putting anything out there would put him right back to doing something that he obviously just doesn't have the stomach for. That may change, but I would think with the number of years that have gone by, if that was possible, it may have happened already.

I also don't think he owes his fans a website or a monthly update. But having said that, he's smart enough to know that when he does the occasional interview, it will be torn to pieces with analysis. Sort of like..what I just did

I honestly think if Perry could put out an album without touring he would do it. I just don't think Sony, WB or even Walmart would agree to release it without some kind of roadshow to follow.
