Sure, there's bad nurses that screw basic shit up, just like there's bad doctors, paramedics, teachers, cops etc., but the ones that do their job right have a very demanding job. Of course they deserve to be compensated fairly. I don't know about you, but I don't see too many nurses rolling around in Ferraris and pulling into their million-dollar lake front home...

For every close-minded conservative, there's a liberal whose out-of-control emotions and "sense of justice" trump any practical concerns. I'm not just talking about higher taxes when I talk cost, shit I'm not just talking in monetary terms. Government health care will drive great practitioners out of business and create a huge oversaturation. Sure, maybe everyone will have nominal access to health care - what good is it gonna do if there is a massive shortage of appointments, drugs, doctors, and facilities? We have the best doctors and the best facilities in the world. You cannot refute that, not with even the most crackpot leftist sources. Of course it's going to cost more money to maintain those facilities and keep those practitioners in business.

The problem with all you liberals is that you think every problem has a simple cause and simple solution. Yes, it's overpriced for everyone. But the reasons for these costs are so numerous and so complex that it's asinine to think that simply having government foot the bill is gonna solve anything, besides probably driving some of our most brilliant practitioners out of the country or at least out of practice.

All you liberals do is stamp your feet and point fingers at simple cuplrits, W, the big bad insurance companies, the greedy employers, and the greedy doctors (who trained for well over 8 years and worked their asses off to become MDs I might add). You wanna know why prescription drug costs are spiraling out of control? Because of the fuckin crackpot FDA approval policies. Then there are things like fraud on both the doctor's and patient's parts that drive insurance costs up. And there's millions of other things that make the cost what it is. Government won't get rid of those costs. And like LA said, look at Medicare/aid. Government isn't gonna solve the problem.

Just because someone disagrees with your liberal remedy doesn't mean they are satisfied with the status quo, which is what you have assumed here and liberals do all the time in debate. It's not a perfect system, but comparing us to the UK/Canada is apples to oranges and just doesn't jive. That's like a giant corporation assuming the management style of a successful 5-person small business is going to work for them.

Re health nsurance, something has to be done. I am living the nightmare as far as health insurance for a self-employed person. And the co-pays for prescriptions, unless you use what's on the formulary, has really jumped up. For the people that are covered by companies or supplemented, you really can't understand. It used to be the poor that didn't have insurance, but you would be surprised now in these last years how many can't afford health insurance, lower middle class and middle class.

And so many companies can't even afford to provide their employees with insurance. With the economy now in the tank, it's going to become astronomical the amount of people not insured. Believe me, our tax dollars go towards those without insurance having to use the ER as their medical clinic when they're sick. So whatever fear I had years ago is now replaced with my fear of if something isn't done. Several of my friend's husbands had to change jobs where health insurance was provided to new jobs that didn't. Their eyes were opened on what's going on and the need for reform, especially when the annual renewal came around and their monthly payments jumped up 100 to 200 dollars more a month, and that's each year. McCain's so-called plan was lacking. I guess you can tell I voted for Obama.

That's BULLSHIT!!!!!!! In Canada we have free healthcare, and it has not bankrupted the country. If anything it has helped the economy because people don't wait untill they are deathly ill to do something about it, then become a burden on the system and get shitty healthcare in a American welfare hospital or shovelled out of an ER cause they don't have coverage, cause that's all they can do for them. My sister and her family of 5 pay $1000.00 a month in the states for insurance, and it still does'nt cover everything. In our system everyone is equal and gets great healthcare. And our nurses are the BEST!!!!!

For what it's worth, I don't know of a single medical practitioner in Australia who left the industry when Medicare was introduced, but I personally know about 80 who have left in the last 10 years because Australia introduced insurance and litigation laws more similar to the US and their insurance premiums soared so high they can't afford to work.
