Kudos to whoever mentioned Cry Of Love. Fantastic album.

I'd like to propose The Four Horsemen. Fabulous guitarist and one of the most charismatic singers I've ever heard. SUCH a great rock voice. Ultimately undone by the death of two of the band members and management apathy. Their debut album is just a superb slab of no-nonsese rock. They broke up soon after and reformed again a few laters and released a (imho) superior album but the singer was hit by a drunk driver and never came out of a coma.

Oh, and one other has just occurred to me.

Jellyfish

Easily one of the most musically gifted bands that I've ever heard. They were the right band at the wrong time and, again, record company apathy undid them because Kurt Cobain and his self-loathing mates were all the rage.

OOC, how big was Hardline? I always liked 'em.

Has anyone said SOUL SIRKUS?
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

BLVD was from Canada.
History
In 1983, Mark Holden was invited to work in the new Thunderhead recording studios in Calgary, Alberta. Shortly thereafter, he and Randy Gould joined with vocalist David Forbes from Seattle to form the band BLVD. When the studio folded in 1985, the group moved to Vancouver and continued recording demos until finally landing a contract with MCA Records in 1987. The band's lineup was rounded out by Andrew Johns (keyboards), Randy Burgess (bass) and Jerry Adolphe (drums).

Their self-titled debut album was recorded at Ocean Sound in Vancouver by producer Pierre 'Baz' Bazinet and was mixed by notable rock producers Bob Rock and Mike Fraser. The album produced four singles and two videos, and the band had good exposure by touring Canada opening for Glass Tiger.

By 1990, the band expanded their name to Boulevard and revised their lineup with Tom Christiansen on Bass [formerly of Idle Eyes, later to play with Econoline Crush, Josh Kelly] and Randall Stoll on drums. They recorded Into the Street at Venture Studios in Vancouver with John Punter and released two singles in Canada. While the album is regarded today by some as an AOR classic, it did not fare well in the charts and the band broke up by 1991.

Survivor should have been HUGE. They were of course highly successful. But they should have been Journey HUGE! If Survivor had been on a bigger label that would have spent money on promoting the band, and if Herbie Herbert had been their manager, then they would have been as huge as Journey.

It would be very interesting to put an album by album or track by track contest up between Journey & Survivor.I reckon it would be a lot closer than most people would imagine.

Am I the only person who hates Survivor? I don't listen to nor own any of their music. It kind of grates on me. I think I'm all alone on that feeling.

Everyone has their own opinion. But IMO it would not even be close, with Journey winning by a mile.

I would go out as often as possible to catch Zebra in the 80's - still caught their shows through the 90's and even a few times in the past couple of years.

Randy Jackson (not not that one) is an extremely underrated guitarist AND vocalist.

I saw them live, I used to belong to their fan club as well..............Met all of them...........Neal gave me a guitar pick, and so did Todd Jensen, he also was a bassist for Steve Perry. I think they had a hit or two, but it disolved after a year or so............ :)

Saraya, female fronted melodic rock.

Their second record "When the blackbird sings" is awesome.

Joe Lynn Turner was big, but with bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malsteen. A great singer! unfortunately, the general public didn't take too kindly to rock songs, with mega cheesy lyrics. I rate the guy as one of the best male rock singers of all time, but I feel his song choices really let him down over the years, I believe even with the great bands such as Deep Purple, Rainbow, Malmsteen (Turner era), they have those big question marks hanging over them and very mixed reactions over years, mostly bad reactions from I can see, and as good as a lot of those albums are for us die hard fans, you were not going to see them up for grammy at any point in their careers. - So that's probably the issue is to why he didn't get the recognition he deserved, among his peers such as Gramm, Perry, and so on (those guys rarely! had a badly written song) if at all.
