I had the pleasure of watching it in theatres. It, along with Star Trek, is one of the only movies that I would pay to see twice.

We loved it!!! Tons of nods to the TV show and movies, and a great way to introduce a modern generation to the characters.

Chris Pine didn't try to do a Shatner imitation, but he was unmistakably Kirk. :) And funny, there were a few scenes where he really looked amazingly like a younger Shatner, especially when he's getting choked during a fight. No joke there...

This movie is going to be such a joke.....Another attempt to modernize a classic series. Stop trying to get the current generation hip to Star Trek by modernizing movies.

The First mistake was going the PREQUEL route.....

No doubt. Look I am a long time fan as well, big fan of the original series, and just because I am not part of a crazy "trekkie convention" I am still a fan. I think they gave this dying franchise a good kick up the ass, gave it some guts, and character. Without this film, Star Trek was finished. The nerds "fans" on IMDB forums, and Youtube who are disappointment because? who the hell knows, I have no idea what they were expecting.

Vladan is absolutely correct. The magic was exhausted in the franchise, and interest in "Enterprise" and "Nemesis" proved that the fanbase was tired. Perfect time for a reboot as well as a prequel.

He must be thinking of Lost in Space. They had the cheesiest costumes & set designs ever. That's what I loved about it. It was so hokey it was funny.

I cannot wait to see this movie. I am a huge Star Trek fan. I love Patrick Stewart. I remember when I was young, before cable was available in our area (we didn't get cable until I was in high school, around 1980) and on Saturdays it was usually on, so I would watch it. Got hooked and the rest is history! Love TNG. I gotta tell ya, there is something kinda sexy about WORF. Those klingons got it goin' on..lol :D

I don't know... "The Man Trap"? There is something highly metaphorical about beautiful women who turn out to be salt vampires. Maybe the writer was inspired by personal experience.

Wrath of Kahn and the whale one kicked it's ass. Still, it was better than any of the TNG shows or movies.

Spoilers and my inner geek ahead....

Note to Paramount- PLEASE QUIT using Time Travel as a plot device for ST films. It's so over used and has become wayyyy predictable. So many of the ST movies use it... However, nobody did it better than in the old show where they nab the pilot out of the Airforce jet, or when they go back through time to save Mcoy in 1920s Earth.

I thought that the guy who played Kirk was good, but I didn't like the scene where he brings out Spock's emotions. The old show would've had that be a lot more thoughtful and difficult for Kirk. Kirk would've had a hard time doing that. This Kirk looked like he was just being a bastard. This version just makes it mean and there's no way that Kirk could do that, in front of the crew, and gain ANY kind of respect from them. Made him look like a complete douche. He's lucky the entire bridge crew didn't just stomp his ass right there. Whatta dick.

The guy playing Spock really looked like a young Nimoy. I didn't care for his verbal delivery, but he was good enough. I was really digging Mcoy at first, but then it kind of degenerated into a caricature of Mcoy's typical lines (are you out of your Vulcan mind, etc.- those were used already folks).

Scotty was cool, though I prefer his Shawn of the Dead character, but the "dopey little cute alien" that was with him just seemed like a device to sell McDonald's toys. Really dumb.

I found Checkov pretty off the mark, but the dialog joke was funny.... once.

Sulu was okay. I read a review that was pissed that the Japanese Sulu is now Korean. Yeah, I can see that, though he was good in the roll. The deal with him taking the ship out though, that was used in an earlier film I believe.
Did anybody notice that the guy that went with Kirk and Sulu (who dies) wore the red suit? Whatta surprise! Not.

Uhura was good, though the romance between her and another character was totally unnecessary AND out of character. Didn't fit at all and wasn't needed. In fact there was another character that SHOULD'VE had Uhura's man's attention, but they reduced her to a bark from Mcoy and no on camera time. It would've explained a lot from the old show had the other person been used instead of Uhura.

I think they really missed the boat and could've had a LOT of cool stuff with them at the academy, rather than throwing ' a boatload of new recruits at an alien invasion' ala the first film. They could've done so much more with the characters outside of the Enterprise. I guess that Shatner (of all people) wrote a book about young Kirk and Spock that's supposed to be really good and much more as the characters should be. I'll have to check it out.

The next one needs to be better and different.

I have to admit that I liked it....I saw two movies yesterday: Wolverine, and Star trek. Trek was better by a longshot.

Zoe Saldana is fucking hot!

On second thought, I take that back.....Rosario Dawson is HOT!

Wrong....on so many levels.

All great scifi -- I don't care how iconic -- is all about great story telling. This movie is over flowing with great story telling...and it will be the monster hit of the year because of it.

Enterprise died, IMO, because it launch on the Paramount network and did not follow the syndication route as the other series did. If it had went into syndication as TNG, DS9, and Vger, it would have been much more successful. Nemesis died simply because it was not as good as other TNG movies.

This movie is up there with Wrath of Khan and First Contact. it is very well written, and well told. I don't like some story elements, like what happened to Vulcan...but it could easily be a setup for a follow up movie...and I very much hope that happens.
