It's the Mariah Carey singing I can do without. The music was top notch, but the lyrics and vocals, to me, sucked. While I can certainly appreciate, and be in awe of, the incredible vocal acrobatics that Perry delivered it's just not my cup of tea. Songs like Patiently, Good Morning Girl, Lights, LTS and especially Something To Hide make me wanna stick dynamite in my ears and then jump into battery acid.

This is interesting. I too often think that Journey's biggest turning point was a little moreso the additon of Jon Cain. While we all respect everyone in the band, when JC came in the water got a little bit clearer. The lyrics were more mature and the overall album production cleaned-up a bit. The sonic became crisper and the songs more solid. Some of this can also be attributed to Steve Smith. His drums were played & recorded better after the live album. Maybe it was just a producer thing, I don't really know. But in '81, it seems the band just got better, if not completely different.

I do wish though that Gregg Rolie was still in the band. Journey should be a six-piece.

Why is it so hard to understand that you can't HATE AND DESPISE something and be a fan of it. There is a difference between not liking a change or an album, or whatever, and HATING the band for it. Highest standards, not blindly excusing? Well, if I held my bands up to the highest standards some of them have already let me down, but I love their music and stay with them, accepting their mistakes that at times hurt their band. So re Journey, how about not blindly excusing, but saying they can be assholes or make bad decisions, but I still love them b/c I still love the music and Journey as-is today with Arnel, (which was the right move), and just appreciate their passion for music. My standards are just fine, thank you. :

Exactly. I would never define who is a true fan of Journey, except for myself. With the twists and turns of this band there's no right answer. Too individual.

I'm not saying 'true fan' either...because I don't think their is such a thing. You are either a fan or not...not a 'true fan'. Does that mean there is such a thing as a 'false fan?'

You're telling me there's no difference between a casual who knows 5 or 6 songs, and owns the "Greatest Hits" cd and likes them and still thinks Steve Perry is their singer, compared to someone who owns 25 Journey cd's, has t-shirts, all of their dvd's, has seen them live 6 times and has a Journey poster? I never said I was "Better" than any Journey fan, nor did I say I was their "Biggest". I said I am "one of their biggest fans". I don't sort through their fucking trash cans outside of their houses, nor do I know any of their damn pets names, but I would say I'm a HUGE fan of the band, and so would anyone who knows me.
