That's only because Schon doesn't know when to pack it in and has 17 ex-wives to support

I'm betting Schon could support himself (and his x's) just fine without performing. He's obviously still making a ton with royalties and other businesses. I think Schon just really enjoys creating msuic and playing to crowds from the stage.  That's what he does.

Debatable...

I'm pretty comfortable in saying that Schon could retire if he wanted to. Journey is not his only stream of income. He gets plenty of money from other projects and royalties from years past. Anyone who can't see that he still enjoys playing needs a visit to the optometrist. He looks like he's having more fun the last couple years than the few years before. I also believe that when Neal is not enjoying what he does he'll hang it up. Fortunately, for Arnel some of Neal has worn off on his son, and who knows Journey might be around til Arnel is 60.

I don't disagree that Neal doesn't enjoy playing to crowds. The guy is an attention whore. That said, he's going to be one of these guys who will never know when to quit. When Arnel runs out of voice (and he will), Schon will be perusing Youtube for the next 25 year old Perry wanna be!

Post of the year. It's ok to not like the band, but some have a mission or agenda to let everyone know about it.

The music and brand live on.

Neal said last year he could retire financially if he wanted to. I don't call it an attention whore. He has a love of performing. He said he wanted to be like B.B. King playing into his '80s. That doesn't mean Journey, but he will always be involved in projects in some form or another I'm sure. He is more like Tom Jones and Tony Bennett, who just have a love of performing. I don't see Neal retired and just hanging out, golfing. He's a musician and that's his life. Nothing wrong with that.

And why wouldn't you want to do it? Performing is like a high... as long as you can do it, you'll want to do it, provided you can handle all the not-so-fun things that go into it (traveling, lack of sleep, crummy hotels, bad food, etc)

Athletics is the same thing... those that can handle all the toils of the road and pressure of competition have a hard time giving it up at the end of the day. Just so happens that the window of opportunity there is obviously a lot slimmer than a musician's, especially an instrumentalist.

Just watched the performance. That stage was REALLY wet! I'm a bit surprised that they didn't have it dried off first...especially knowing how Arnel jumps.

DSB sounded great, and so did SW. They nailed it! I chuckled a bit when Jon had to hunch down to talk into the mic.

Mediocre on that one. Arnel jacked up the words and really has a hard time saying "Detroit."

Separate Ways was excellent and Any Way You Want It was the best I've ever heard this incarnation perform. Never Walk Away sounded great as well. Arnel always seems really nervous at the beginning of DSB. After the first chorus he's money. Gotta brush up the beginning, though. Overall grade: B

I did notice the DSB stuff, but in a way I've come to accept it as being the way he will always sing it.

Dude...you better watch it again or ask the doctors to clean your ears out if you really believe DSB sounded "great". I didn't even think it was good. Hell, Arnel fucked up several of the lyrics in their signature song! Arnel is a very good singer, but that was not a shining performance for him.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Lyrics aside, I thought he was spot on vocally.

I'm speaking in relative terms of course. It goes without saying that he's not Steve, but that was one of the best deliveries of DSB I've seen from Arnel. Far better than the Superbowl pre-game.

I actually really liked his DSB, too. There's been a few DSBs I haven't. This one, really good vocally.

Geez...Anyone can screw up a couple words in the lyrics especially under pressure. SP certainly did particularly during a live TV performance on some interview show (damned if I can remember the guy's name). This was a good solid performance by the entire band.
