I guess they had to figure out SOME way to pimp that DVD using the back catalog.

Why not try going to the Everymansjourney site and read about the movie, instead of going off half cocked? It might enlighten you. Arnel isn't trying to promote his two seconds trying to be anything. He was hired by the band to do what they hired him to do. The movie concept was not his idea either, so stop blaming him. Shit, I swear some people are just looking for a reason to down Arnel. I'm glad it bothers some people. It proves that Journey and Arnel are doing something.

Show me where in my post that said I placed any blame on Arnel for this. You've got to be kidding. I think you went off half cocked prior to reading my post. On the other hand, I don't see any posts on his website saying that he thought it was a bad idea! I realize that Schon and Cain pull all the strings. If they can pimp the Arnel rags to riches story and tie DSB to it IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM......they will. That song sells, period. I have zero problem with his story being told. It's the name of the story that I can't stomach.

Ok, you make more sense now. Read what I blued...that's where I came from with my statement.
Frankly, I'm a bit defensive because I see so many people who don't want to give him a chance, have never seen him live and even pass judgment because he's from a foreign country.

Get over yourself...some of us could care less about where AP came from....I gave it a chance as did alot of people here and some just don't think he is as good.....and for you to try and make it something that it is not ...well

I don't recall soliciting your opinion. And don't put fucking words in my mouth either. Trying to make what something that it's not? You know what, portland...I don't have a problem with you not liking the current Journey. I have a problem with you criticizing those who do like the current band / singer. Now go cook me some dinner or do something.......... ;)

The last time I checked Andrew welcomes everyones opinion here..soooo I guess you are out of luck!!! and you can go and cook me some dinner....or do something...and I did not put words in your mouth they were there for all to see...sweetheart!!!!

Hey, sweetheart, on a lighter note, can you imagine us living under the same roof? I think we'd kill each other. 911 would have to be called every couple days.

LTS wrote:Have been lurking on here for a while, but this is my first official post. Being from Chicago, I have friends who work at Harpo so when Journey was booked on Oprah, they called me and I was on my way to the show -- which was taped on Tuesday, September 15 and being broadcasted this Friday, October 2 (since Oprah is in Copenhagen campaigning for the Olympics to come to Chicago, there will be no on "Live on Fridays").

The theme of the show is Don't Stop Believing. Journey performed 2 songs -- Don't Stop Believin' and Faithfully. Oprah also had a sit down interview with them. Mainly, because of the theme of the show, it focused on Arnel's rags to riches story -- he does most of the talking. They do mention their current CD, the new Manila DVD that is coming out on October 2 AND a movie that is being made about Arnel's life called Don't Stop Believing. They show a tape of Journey's past/present -- shows Steve Perry performing and then Arnel -- no mention of the lead singers between the two). Then Oprah took her photo with them (like she does with all celebrity guests).

The other stories on the show are a homeless african american girl from California who is going to Harvard on a full scholarship right now -- even though she was homeless, her mother instilled the importance of education in her. Oprah invited her to go to Africa with her next time she goes to visit the school she started there. Then there was a hispanic astronaut's story.

Bebe Winans was in the audience. He was there to promote his new cd with his sister, Cece -- they haven't recorded together in quite a while. I really enjoy Bebe and Cece so that was a nice treat to see/hear him. Then Oprah announced a karaoke contest she is having and Bebe will be picking the winner of the contest. Side note -- for some reason I caught a glimpse of Bebe while he was listening to Arnel sing and he was shaking his head in disbelief -- I don't think he could believe that voice was coming from that person.

Things you won't see broadcasted:
- Oprah carrying one her dogs on stage with her at the very beginning of the taping and then us having to wait quite a while for her staff to remove the dog hair from her before they could start taping.
- Oprah complaining about her eyes watering -- people were all over her trying to figure out what was wrong. She looked tired. I do know she was in Canada promoting her movie Precious over the weekend before the taping and then she was on Jay Leno's show -- she just looked out of it.
- Someone in the audience asking if the band members were married -- so the warm-up girl pointed the wives/girlfriends out in the audience.
- Oprah was singing Don't Stop Believin' in all the commercial breaks.
- If there is an uplifting show being taped, the warm-up girl tries to get the audience in a good mood (after all, you have been there since 6:30 AM -- taping is at 9:00 AM) so at our taping they had a Journey quiz and people who had the correct answers won a t-shirt. We also had to sing Don't Stop Believin' over and over and over and over again -- I am very sick of that song right now!

If I remember anything else that happened, I'll hop back on.

Well Perry to AP...guess SA shredding his voice did not count...or JSS saving their asses did not count as well!!! Call me a Loon all you want but they really do act like asses IMO!!!!
I listen to her show while i take a fucking dump while drinkin my ear grey tea

How about we let Arnel have his time in the light without mentioning Perry? I think we all get it - Perry was the greatest, all hail the nose. Perrys cock is delicious. Blah blah... How can the band move forward if they are constantly MENTIONING the past?

People are waiting for the second coming. Sorry, but Steve Perry ain't coming. The second coming of Journey has already begun with Arnel Pineda at the helm. Journey and Steve Perry were great together and that talent left us with legendary music. With Arnel and Journey that music lives on for the benefit of all, especially the newer fans who weren't born yet to see firsthand what a great band this is. And I might add that I am thankful for Steve Augeri for carrying Journey thru the years.

The simple answer is I didn't dig him with Journey and his tenure was so short that putting him in the same respect category as other previous and present band members is something I can't do.

After watching the show today, they sure did alot of editing. The two things that stick out are them omitting the mention of the Don't Stop Believing movie and Arnel saying he would like to meet Steve Perry and get his autograph.

I didn't hear it -- unless I missed it . . .

I know I heard it that day during the taping -- because that's the first I had heard of it.

A quick mention about him being in movie later in the year and that's it.

I'm just speculating but maybe some legal matters concerning the film weren't completely ironed out yet.

So it sounds like the show got clipped back compared to what was witnessed being filmed....so what was the point in going on Oprah again?

They didn't pimp the movie?

I didn't hear it -- unless I missed it . . .

I know I heard it that day during the taping -- because that's the first I had heard of it.

A quick mention about him being in movie later in the year and that's it.

I'm just speculating but maybe some legal matters concerning the film weren't completely ironed out yet.

I notice it on her website -- so she is promoting it there . . .

It obviously wasn't to promote new music. Granted, they had to play DSB but Faithfully instead of one of their newer songs? And don't tell me that Oprah made them sing that one. She never gave two hoots about Journey back when they were hot in the 80s, why care about what song they sing now?
She gave Bon Jovi major airtime but Jon also gave her a million dollar check for one of her causes so that had nothing to do with the music either.

I'm thinking she's more of an R&B fan than pop-rock.

But not on TV. Big difference in how many people will notice that, for sure. Maybe it was due to time constraints?

Folks, lets be perfectly honest here. The only one that may have a legit reason to grip is Augeri. Soto has no standing whatsoever. He was an emergency pinch hitter, nothing more nothing less. If Soto didn't do it, someone else would've. Maybe Soto was the first choice, but I doubt he was the only one on their list. Plus, if the alleged tapegate didn't come to light, there would not have been a reason for Soto. I'm not trying to rehash a Soto fight and he stepped up and helped out but he has about as much standing as Robert Fleishman (maybe less). Bottom line, Arnel and Augeri were Perry replacements. Soto was Augeri's replacement not Perry's.

DVR'ed and watched it. As big a fan of JSS's voice I am, and loved when he sang with them, I knew sadly they would never mention a thing about him, but Augeri? That was pretty sad they didn't mention him at all. The "story" went from 1996 and Perry's departure straight to present day lineup like nothing happened in between :?

I'm happy for Arnel, truly. But good grief that was sad to not even mention Augeri, it was like that era of the band, and him fronting it, never existed.
