I agree, but am not sure what's in it for you, SJ. When Neal gets his way, fans end up with something like Hardline, Red 13, or SoulSirkus. That's fine by me, but don't you hate those albums?

EXACTLY. You can go too far into the syrupy ballad direction....and too far in the hard rock direction. The reason Escape is such a timeless masterpiece is they did NOT consider all that (for the most part) and just wrote good music. Nowadays, and it has been this way since TBF, all people want to do is count ballads vs. rock songs and label the album as such and such. But, if the songs are mediocre (Generations and Revelation), then it really doesn't matter how fast the beat is, or how mushy the lyrics are...it's not going to be memorable.

This the way I see the new album sounding ... Neal making sure that his guitar leads and drives a lot of the songs (rather than Cain's keys), but you'll still have JC fighting to make sure the songs still have that very melodic element that typifies a Journey song. That combination and friction will result in a very hard, melodic edge to the songs, give them a a modern sound, yet still have the Journey stamp on them. Neal was very studious during their Revelation tours. He was looking for new ideas to add to his playing to give them an edgier sound. He also met up with Jeff Beck and Brian May. He was sober and I expect that whatever he came up will be absolutely spectacular. This album will be smoking. Bet the house.

And, that type of sound was already tried on Red 13 and the fans rejected it.

This band just spent the last few years propping up and living on DSB and the legacy music and sound. Now they are going to switch that up for something like Hardline mixed with Journey? I don't think that is what people expect out of Journey and is going to leave people with a WTF attitude.

Enough of the bullshit, just record good music and ignore all of these topics of distraction....I don't think they can do it. Instead, they have to sound like this and that...no more 'ballads', not enough "rock". What a bunch of babies who have to 'stomp their feet' to get their way.

The bolded songs represent the good songs, the songs left alone represent the mediocre songs and the italicized songs represent some of the most reprehensible music ever recorded. Just total fluff and shit.

You know, you are so caught up in Arnelanitis that you can't appreciate a good Journey album, and over-appreciate mediocre ones.

So, basically, you like Escape, Departure and Revelation....You hate the first three with Perry, I'm sure you hate the three prior to Perry, and Generations, and probably ROR....Seems to me you hate about 2/3 of Journey's catalog. Yeah, you calling yourself a Journey 'fan' makes perfect sense when you hate the majority of the music they've recorded.

Listen, moron, I've explained this before, but I guess I'll explain it again. You can't define what a "fan" is. It's an individualistic relationship with the person and the band. It's absent of what you or anyone else thinks. There's no mandated amount of songs, albums or singers that one must like. Take your criteria and stick it in your fallopian tubes. The guy who calls himself a "Journey fan" because he loves one song is just as much of a fan as the guy that knows and loves every song they've ever released, and there's not a fucking thing that you or anyone else can do about it ... because it's independent of you and your 1 inch dick, and even smaller brain. You're dismissed, son.

LOL. I said (and you quoted), "you calling YOURSELF a fan..." I did not define what a fan was, or call you a fan, or say you are not one. But, I'll repeat, someone calling THEMSELF a fan who hates so much of whatever it is they are calling THEMSELF a fan of, makes no sense..

there's not a fucking thing that you or anyone else can do about it ...

And, there is nothing you can do about me saying it makes no sense. Deal with it.

With some smoothing and better production it would have sounded completely different and better I think. I think there are some good highlights from those 4 songs, actually.

1. I hate the majority of Styx's music but love about 30 songs from them, love them live..and that's enough to put them in my top 10 faves.

2. You have been a negative pain in the ass about Journey for years now. You used to be the absolute best poster of all things Journey in the 90's and even early in the 00's, (especially leaking Higher Place to us), but now you simply like to rip on them, despite their surge in success and continuing making new music, which is all we all really wanted in '95 anyway. I don't get it?

It is because the band is not doing what he as a "fan" wants them to. He talks about babies stomping their feet till they get their way. Pot meet Kettle.

I think it sounded great....and I really like Red 13. But, the Perryhead crowd didn't. That is the crowd they have been catering to for the past few years. I just don't believe that most of the DSB crowd will go for it today any more then they did back then,.

So, because the album title is similar to one of Hardline's albums they are trying to sound like Hardline?

No...Andrew made the comment about how good Journey mixed with Soul Sirkus/Hardline would sound, in response to somebody else. It is speculation.

BTW, Eclipse was suggested by fans when they we talking about titles for Arrival..."Horizon" won the fan vote - and I still like that title better.

Thats what Schon's point was.

No, his point is he wants to have an album done 'his way'. My point is that is no better then an album done Perry's way, ROR, or Jonathan's way, or anybody else. That's my point.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'leaking' HP?

It became pretty obvious to me in the early 2000's, around the time of "I Love All Access" and other things, that Journey cared more for making money then making music, or doing anything for fans. When Neal recorded and released Soul Sirkus in less then a year, it proved to me that Journey was nothing more then a touring band for him to make money, and was no longer a much of a musical outlet for him. Generations was thrown together in what seemed to me to be a hush puppy to fans - it could have been a much better album if it had better recording and production. Then the entire scandal of Augeri/JSS/Arnel was just a circus...and throw in the backhanded way they "leaked" the tape scandal, and the firing of JSS...WTF? Why should I not be skeptical and critical of anything this band does? Eclipse is probably their last best chance of having any success with new music. Everybody should know that So, what do they do? Go in the exact opposite direction of ROR. Lame. And, that was also my opinion back when Arrival was released and people were saying there were too many ballads. Having an album of nothing but "Any Way You Want It" sounding songs is no better then an album of nothing but "Open Arms"...It needs a mixture of both, and some new things. That is what Arrival did so well...and where ROR, TBF, Generations, and Revelation fail..

It is because the band is not doing what he as a "fan" wants them to.

And, what exactly is that? Not fuck up and make stupid mistakes? Do something other chase $'s? Offer something to the fans that they do not make some type of profit from?

Why is that such a bad thing?
