Is there any clips of the performance WITH comments by the judges? I searched, but came up empty.

Not so far. I've searched for it numerous times since it aired last night. No torrents, nada. Usually, it's all over the torrent sites within an hour after it airs but for some strange reason it's not there - probably because it's the first time I've ever wanted to download it so Murphy's Law is coming into play here. 8)

I watched that part and all of the judges raved about James' performance of Don't Stop Believing.

Ritchie: James' voice more for pop and not rock? Maybe pop metal from the 80's. His voice would blend in with those bands, but not straight up pop music.

I personally prefer singers with strong vocal characteristics such as Ronnie James Dio or a David Coverdale..so it`s just a matter of taste.
But indeed he could blend in well in a rockband with a style like Dokken or Cheap Trick.

it's what he was best known for pre-Idol. Did you really expect him to say anything different? It's obvious he was very proud of his time with Journey.

Anybody catch the part where Randy says " Journey, next to Aerosmith, one of the greatest rock bands of all time" and then laughter from the audience, then Randy says "No, I'm serious!" :) The response from my daughter... "See daddy, Journey really IS lame"

People who would attend AI in person or watch for that matter are an indicator of what it lame?

To me he sounds like the kind of singers common in Christian rock.

Yeah I saw that part too. What the heck was up with that? Most people today dont know what good music is anyways. I also remember when Randy said that and Steven Tyler looks over and says "Really?" and Jay Lo goes "Yes" they are one of the best rock bands. Wasnt sure if Steven Tyler was just messing with Randy and joking around or if he was serious.

I guess it really doesnt matter what most people think today anyways. They are more interested in whats "popular" right now. Most american music listeners dont invest in bands and stick by them. Journey success speaks for itself: 90 million albums sold, 18 top 40 hits, 6 top ten studio albums, 15 million seller greatest hits, top 30 best selling american band of all time, successful tours, and still relevent today. How is that not a top pop/rock band?

Anyways I wonder what Steven Tyler thought when Randy said "Other than Steven Tyler, Steve Perry is one of the best vocalists ever"? Sorry Steven Tyler has a good voice, but Perry would blow Tyler out of the water. I know that Steve Perry attended one of Aerosmith's shows back in the 80s.

Depends what the criteria is. If you're adding up the totality of their careers and factor in things like longevity, touring strength and success over time, and also consistently staying relevant with new music, Tyler wins. If you want to go with vocal capabilities and success over an 8-10 year period, then Perry wins. Personally, I prefer Perry, but Tyler's overall career dwarfs Perry's. Perry was basically a very fragile 8-10 year flash in the pan. Aerosmith has been going strong for 40 years.

Ain't that the truth! Don pretty much commented on the same thing in another thread rescently. It's so true, attention spans of a gnat. Just don't care about "talent" as much anymore, it's all about the shockvalue or big production or mass marketing. No wonder classic rock bands fair so much better overseas nowadays......

Very true about Tyler's career. Tyler has kept himself relevent and "out there" alot, he likes the attention and people. Perry on the otherhand is more reclusive and didnt have the longevity. I was referring to vocal capabilities, range, and uniqueness which Perry gets hands down. I know alot of people really like Tyler though and sort of gravitate to him.

Exactly its about whats the new popular thing right now. American music is fleeting. I remember Tina Turner saying that there is a huge difference between English and American fans. English fans stand by their music and bands, they dont ditch them 3 months down the road. They invest in the music, not the product or sex appeal. Bands have more staying power in Europe.

The cream of the crop American bands have legions of fans. Journey, REO, Styx, Bon Jovi, Skynyrd, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Metallica, Hall and Oates, KISS, Cheap Trick, Van Halen, The Eagles and many, many others have no problem touring, some 30-40 years since their inception. The European and Asian music scene was long starved and have just lowered the bar to include half-assed bands that never really made it here in the U.S. Mr Big is a fine example of a very mediocre band reaping the benefits of paying attention to the world markets, when the American crowd was bright enough to sniff out their obvious mediocrity. Right, Deb?

Bahaha, that's hilarious. Explain why then, Mr Big and Beiber played the same night in Manila just this past Tuesday, and Mr Big filled the Areneta Coliseum and your beloved Beiber played the Mall Of Asia concert grounds.  Why? because the rest of the world is smarter Dannyboy, they actually get talent and aren't fooled by the product or flash in the pan. :P

Hell my favorite band isn't only virtuosos on their own instruments but can actually play each and every other band members instruments too, granted not as well as the orginals of course, but still, you just don't see that kind of natural talent anymore. I think the only switch up I haven't seen from them is Sheehan on drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48jiNmRZZ48

You're not comparing apples to apples. Mr Big and Justin Bieber aren't in the same genre or age demographic. The U.S. music scene, like it or not, is basically equivalent to the entire rest of the world. And this scene is fine. They've simply been able to, unlike other parts of the world, to decipher the great classic acts from the mediocre ones. And the great acts have no problem touring. Hell, Journey and Styx are able to do it without the voices that helped make them popular. That's loyalty and an A-OK music scene.

Besides, Bieber was joined on stage by the real Mr Big:

 You fool, you just proved my point. Did you even read on that. That is a fan made video as a trailer for Beiber's upcoming Manila Mall of Asia outdoors show this past week. That wasn't filmed in Manila. LOL, Beiber fills US coliseums, MB fills the rest of the worlds coliseums. And regarding your point on Journey and Styx, they aren't selling out arenas on their own in the US either? :P But either way, apples or oranges, I was talking music talent/taste in general......since you are always so all about stats. LOL might as well quit while we're ahead, neither one of us is ever going to let up on this much argued point.

Gotta say - I like the studio version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izwNkhAgpVk

Yeah, I know they added effects and such - when don't they these days. But despite what some say, the guy's got a voice. Again, listen to some of his pre-Idol stuff on YT. I think he sounded pretty good in his country duet tonight too.

For me he was a breath of fresh air on the show - the remaining 3 don't interest me at all. I think the country boy has been pegged to win for some time now  - good for him, just not something I would ever listen to.

It hasn't aired here yet. So James got the boot tonight huh? In my opinion that pretty much guarantees Scotty to win.

Agree, I can't believe he went before Haley??? Man that chick has an ego on her too.......can't take criticism worth shit, did you see her face when the judges were giving her advise last night, pretty much rolling her eyes. Sure Scotty's got a good voice, but just a one trick pony for me. Was so hoping it would be Lauren and James in bottom 2. I was hoping for another one of these with those two..........both have sorta the same type of voices........... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH6GhniSCC4 kick ass/great chemistry!

WOO HOO!!! Thank the LORD that America finally tuned in to what I've been hearing since day 1! I can't STAND his shrill, high-pitched, senseless screaming. I'm so excited to see him go, that words can't convey it enough. Lol! I'd love to see Hailey or Lauren win it, as they have the best voices of the season. I'm so sick of hearing the judges lick James's asshole after one mediocre performance after another, yet criticize every damn outstanding performance that Hailey's ever done... it sickens me. If they don't get real judges next year, I'm officially done with the show.

Now if we could just get Scotty off next... :D
