I believe it's totals tracked since Soundscan started being used (1991). GH1 has well over 10 million copies sold as it's already been certified at Diamond status.

Greatest hits 1 has sold around 1.3 million since its last certification in 08. So current sales are around 16.3 million in the US and global sales are near 25 million.
Also for those that care about Journey sales figures Greatest hits Live is close to platinum status, essential journey is ready to be certified 2x platinum, and greatest hits 1 is ready to be certified 16x platinum.
