What part exactly of "chain...chain...chain of love!" threw you for a loop? Other songs, like Anything is Possible, have the lyrical simplicity of a child's birthday card. You can't be serious

They already did that with Eclipse so there's no point in doing that again since it didn't sell all that well. I liked Eclipse but I would rather see a classic old school Infinity through Escape Journey album.

LOL You got me there!

But what I meant is there doesn't have to be long verses and long chorus to every song. For example, compare to Any Way You Want It. That song rocks and there aren't a lot of "complicated" lyrics. Maybe complicated is the wrong word.

They could put out the greatest ballad album ever and it won't sell. They might as well just make it a jam album. Jams have a better chance of making into concerts. Write songs that people want to hear in concert. Nobody is buying the CD except for diehard fans, and the diehard fans want to jam!

Very true. A light Rock album is not going to sell any better than a hard Rock album at this point in time!

Imo, musicians way past their band's peak don't have any chance of selling lots of new records any more. If it were me, I'd be writing and producing for current big artists/bands. Do the greatest hits tours, and throw in a few new songs by prefacing, "Here's one thats out on so-n-sos new album." or "We wrote this song for xyz artist who had a big hit with it last year.", etc. Then maybe include some of the songs on a future compilation album.

Really, that could be the only way of being relevant any more. It's still all your music, it's just another band on the record or another face on the cover.

Btw, I still think 'Turn Down the World Tonight' could be a big country duet hit.

Many Cain ballads could be done country style. Jon has spoken publicly about trying to get Garth Brooks to cover Faithfully and having no success. Jon's inability to break into the country market seems to be a point of frustration.

I get what you're saying. I think "Place In Your Heart" could be a good template for the band to refer to. Has all the ingredients of motown and melodic rock.

Also, they should look to "When You're Alone It Ain't Easy." Instead of having three different verses, have two verses and repeat the first verse. Then people can learn your song fast. Perhaps they should get Gregg Rolie back in the band. They can try to do a new Infinity/Evolution/Departure style album. Gregg did a good job song-writing with The Storm without Perry, Neal or Jon.

Neal had an answer for this today actually:

"not that hard also he was not interested in any new music. He said to me...I'm not interested in making any new music with Journey I'm just here to pick up a check. Fuck that m. He lost me.

I can't imagine that Schon was paying Smith a lot of money to play on Schon's solo albums, but Smith played on several of them. If Smith was all about the money, why did he play on Schon's albums, but was not interested in recording new Journey music? If anything I'd imagine that Smith would be paid better for recording a new Journey album than he was for the Schon albums?

Also Steve Smith said the exact opposite when it came The Storm. He was paid to do the studio work but didn't want to tour. I think there is more to this than what Neal is saying....Perhaps Steve Smith was not getting paid enough, even as a studio drummer, to justify spending the time to record with Journey. That would not surprise me.

Yeah, it's a shame for him that he wasn't able to.

I was reading a Demond Child interview a while back where he was thinking that his career was kind-of over as a hit songwriter and then he discovered the country market and realised it was pretty similar stuff to what he had always wrote, just had to give it a twist.
