:? Were we watching the same Bill Graham memorial???? :? I see no Anthrax comparison or him being out of it? He may be raspy there from not singing for awhile but he's still got 100% of his deliverability. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60R2R7Ux ... re=related

A most generous fellow fan copied the BG excerpts onto the conclusion of the Japan '81 show, sharing the dvd with me. Put a lump in my throat watching the significance of it all...Steve/Neal/Jon reunited on stage after more than 4 yrs. SP was understandably rusty...so he forgot the lyrics to Faithfully...big deal...it's not as if he kept the song in his head all those years.

I notice little details. Look how gently he placed the microphone down as they were leaving the stage. Most other singers (especially rnr singers) would just flip the mic.

Ok, seriously...time to lay down the cards. Aside from inflated quotes from the gospel of Saint Herbie that you constantly preach, where the hell are you coming up with the notion that Perry was either 'not all there' or as you so delicately put it, bombed during this performance. And don't pussy out of it and dip back to your critique of his performances during '86 tour, 5 years before this. Step up, bro!!!!

At best, Perry was VERY rusty for that performance--sounding worse than anything I've heard on the ROR tour, and most of what I've heard from the FTLOSM tour. He could have been out of practice (very possible, with the unplanned nature of things), sick, fighting allergies which will do wonders to your voice, or whatever, but he didn't sound good at all.

A critique like that is acceptable. But to accuse anyone of being bombed (let's read between the lines...accusing someone of being drunk) based off of 5 year old stories that you've read, is wrong. This isn't said to defend Perry. It's wrong to put a accused tag like that on anyone based on hearsay.

Did they perform "Don't Stop Believin'" at the Graham memorial? I've only heard "Lights" and "Faithfully" and I thought I recalled Herbie saying that DSB was performed as well (tuned to A instead of E)...

They only did the two songs. I was there that day. Steve, Neal & Jon came together to pay tribute to someone they admired, Bill Graham. They didn't rehearse and Steve hadn't been singing in a very long time, so obviously nothing was perfect. But they were there for Bill and that is what mattered.

I understand, and I certainly wasn't passing any judgment. Just wondered if DSB was performed...thanks.

What about Herbie? He was there, too, wasn't he?

Thank you Lora! Granted the performance vocally was not spot on but I always admired the fact that they came together to pay tribute to someone they obviously admired.

I always thought that performance was also impacted by no bass and drums. The vibe got 'loungy'.

I actually thought Espee's rawness contributed to the mood of the day. It would be weird for Dude to be soaring and perfectly singing these songs like a fuckin angel. His voice and demeanor were a perfect fit to the events of the day.

Dan, you are too much dude. You are accusing Perry of hitting the sauce before going on before 70,000 people? I just don't think so.
