JRNY1 at Back Talk is Big Ed from Pittsburgh, he is definitely not Meanie, they both used to post at Skylord's old board.

Oh, I don't know where I got that from them...

What is the official release date on this 2005 DVD?

Jon and Neal are on record saying it will be out within a year. Deano says he has it on good word that it will officially be out in April.

I hate these posts

Postby AR » Sun Dec 04, 2005 8:03 am

I just read where somebody said that current Journey is just as good as the Houston concert was. Come on....................you either gotta be retarded, in total denial of reality or both to think that. Why does it hurt some of you so much to realize that Houston 81 was Journey at its total peak?

And with all due respect, Journey has a singer that can't even cover all the hit songs. So my goodness, just use your critical thinking skills before saying something retarded. I still can't believe that somebody has actually fooled themselves into believing that the current line up is as good as they were in 81. Geesh...........

Now that i'm off my soap box, was the Houston concert at the start, middle or end of the Escape tour?

Obviously a post meant to be devisive. I know I'm a little late on this. You shouldn't compare eras of ANY band. I like it when a band can continue on and give me more music to hear.

Lord knows there are no new bands that I can get into.

Just celebrate all eras of JRNY. I like Houston 81. I like JRNY 2001 on DVD too.

I could compare and contrast, and say which I like better but what is the F'N point?

Enough said. 8)

My guesses on that would be that they haven't exactly been too reliable with their promised products in the past few years, and Neal says he's already $300,000 in the hole.

Of course they might be able to recoup some of that loss with this DVD, but then, maybe the projected earnings on it don't offset the remaing production costs enough for them to think it's justifiable. The release of the Houston '81 might whet the appetites of some of the casual fans that have been attending the concerts for something new, but maybe the "bean counters" don't think that would be enough. They've already spent the money to record it though, :?, so why not take a chance on it?

Who knows, just spectulating here.

Why did you say that TNC?

I don't think Meanie has been around for for ages. He was probably one of the first to leave BT when it moved from Skylord's BB to the official forum. I think he basicaly got bored with the "Perry wars"...cuz it was the same thing over and over and over again...and BT was so restrictive that he could never post the way he did on Sky's forum...he ws even booted from Sky's forum a couple times If he were here, he'd probably laugh at all of us for arguing about the EXACT SAME THINGS we were arguing about in 1998.

Well, Free was there too.

Meanie goes back to before Sky's forum too. Back when there was only the mailing list to post to, he was as much pro-Perry as any other Perry fan. I used to argue with him all the time. He completely supported the reunion with Perry. Before TBF was released, he had a promotional copy and propped it up as having some great ballads, and the best wasn't the single, "When You Love a Woman"...and he knew there was gong to be more and bigger hits....

But, then, no new news from Journey. Then he basicaly started saying that Journey disbanded, again, and there would be no tour - because Perry refused to tour - BEFORE the story about the hip thing came out. So, all these people jumped on him for blaming Perry, and blah, blah, blah....

That's how it all came down. I don't know what he knew from "Behind the scenes"...but after the 'hip' thing, he was completely against Perry being in Journey - and that I was right and Perry should have never been asked back.

As for the nick "Meanie", lets just say he said he agreed with almost everything I would post, but I was much more "diplomatic" about it. So, you may see why Deeno or TNC may remind Free of Meanie. It seems that every time someone posts with attitude, people from the olden days think he is Meanie...but, it's not true. Meanie was the original.

Well, I get the feeling from that quote it meant he bankrolled SS, cradle to (what may be) grave. The record, the tour, payroll etc. 300k.
Dallas' dvd release from this year's show should go a ways towards helping Neal recoup it. The music dvds for the most part sell better than albums by this ilk of band. He said they went all out, pyro etc. I guess Nocturn (his/HH's co.) handled the filming? Why do say it's not coming out, TheNobleCause?

Meanie was almost like your evil alterego wasn't he?

The only time I was ever subjected to him was on the VH1 Perry board. He was a real @$$hole. (even more so than you, if that's possible )

There's a new interview on the front page. In it Neal talks about the debt. Like Joe said, it has to do with SS, but if the band is bankrolling their own stuff it could cut into the release of the 2005 DVD. Maybe Neal was forewarning so that when people asked why the DVD didn't come out he would have it covered. Or, then again, maybe he was just talking about SS.

I think the way that Gens was released is an indication that they're not spending a lot on promotion, so maybe they won't see the DVD as a viable investment. If they could have it ready for release by spring they might be able to capitalize on the momentum of the Houston '81, but if the people who bought the '81 are Perry/Journey fans from the '80s that might not work out either.

I'd say, depending on how much it would cost them to get the DVD out there, unless they have sufficient capital, it might not look like a good investment to them. JMO

Couldn't tell you. I don't have the DVD yet (my kids keep telling me "Christmas is coming"). I have the concert on video and I think he sounded very good...if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I listened to it though.

I think Perry's consistently best work was Escape, but I have to say I love numerous songs on ROR.

Don't even start, PF.

Actually, "retarded" is becoming, once again, politically correct. In the field of education, there are more monikers and abbreviations and acronyms and associations than probably any other field out there...AND they are ALWAYS changing.

And if you actually take the time to READ this thread, I wasn't the first one to use the term. I simply reiterated it, for the purpose of pointing out the ridiculousness of its use in this instance (sorry that slipped by you, but I should have reminded myself of the caliber of some of the individuals who post here). If you don't like my use of the word, take it up with the individual who started this thread by claiming that anyone who has the mundacity to believe that the current Journey is as good as the one from 1981 is - quote - retarded. Oh wait, you wouldn't do that because you happen to AGREE with that assessment. Talk about demagoguery...

Now, I did not attack you. I responded to a post without attacking anyone specifically. You attacked me. Does it end now, or do you want to continue...?

What a glutton for punishment...you have the temerity to pick a fight with me and you refuse to bring your brain to the proceedings? My dog possesses a greater understanding of English than you do. In the words of Captain Amazing...you're a MORON, Perryfaithful! :) - plain and simple. Any minute now, one of your cronies will come to your aid by dutifully ignoring me and making snide or offhand comments ABOUT me. God, is this Kindergarten for some, or what? I think so...you need a time out and quick.

You didn't come out of the gate with fire in your eyes at Free when this thread began by essentially referring to people as retards who thought that today's Journey just as good as yesterday's. Gee, how come? Hmmm, let me guess...:)

Call it "bull" if you want to (knowing how familiar you are with excrement due to the fact that you sling it a good deal of the time), however, the word "retarded" is coming back into usage by professionals and paraprofessionals alike within the educational system. Still, you miss the entire point of my original rebuttal (as usual) simply because you consistently fail to do one thing - READ FOR MEANING.

As far as the "world you live in"...you can have it and personally, I think you should stay there instead of crawling out from underneath your pile of cow dung to heap abuse on those who deign to disagree with you about your god, Steve Perry. Worship at his altar if you want to, but don't deny the right of the rest of us to choose Journey over him (or even enjoy Journey's music AND his). The fact that it still bothers you and a few others that Journey has done as well as they have without Perry speaks volumes. One day, you'll come to realize that all of your anger in the world directed at Journey's fans won't cause Steve Perry to grab a mic and get back on stage or head back into the recording studio.
