Lamest Jonathan Cain moment

You Journeygoons can spout recriminations against Perry until the cows come home and it won't make a bit of difference. You just don't know what might have been if Jon hadn't made that fatal phone call. You can suppose and you can predict but the bottom line is that the phone call crossed the rubicon. We know what has happened but we'll never know what might have been.

I'm not trying to make a difference.
Even when Perry himself admits to wrongdoing (as he did in BTM) you go into complete denial-mode.
How can I expect to speak honestly with you when you won't even accept the truth from the man himself?

heardonthestreet wrote:You just don't know what might have been if Jon hadn't made that fatal phone call.

A new Journey was underway to feature Kevin C. and Gregg Rolie back in the fold. Kevin has discussed it repeatedly. Ross mentioned it on the radio once, too.

heardonthestreet wrote:You can suppose and you can predict but the bottom line is that the phone call crossed the rubicon.

I think we all can speak with a high degree of certainty that Steve Perry would have never stepped foot on stage with Journey. Look at his track record of touring.

We know what has happened but we'll never know what might have been.

I don't have to wonder what happened.
Journey returned to the stage, made a few good records and played some shows.
You are the one looking up to the sky each night, shouting at an uncaring God,
"WHY? Why, God, oh why, did they have to kick Stephen out?!?!?"

Oh boy! What a dork.

Here is a guy who might have been a victim of the dress code of the 80's, but who wasn't?

This "dork," brought an entirely new element of songwriting to the band. So much in fact, that Perry wanted and was denied the song Faithfully, of which the "dork" wrote solely.

But Lula! Perry sang it and the rest is history. He also made Open Arms a hit for Cain.
Where is all the great Cain material since the band turned their collective backs on Perry?

I won't even begin to try to itemize all of Deano's and TNC's individual responces to my remarks. I'll just try to summarize. :)

First of all, I thought it was gracious of him that he didn't badmouth anyone. He just told it like it was from his point of view. He didn't display any attitude, he just talked about what he felt. The other guys, even though they didn't overtly say much that was negative about him, they said a lot with the way they presented what the said.

Secondly, how do we know when the interviewer presented the other guys with what Steve said about "not feeling like part of the band"? We don't know when any of them were interviewed. They may have talked to Steve about that before they talked to them. They could have used that comment to try and make a tabloid moment out of it.

I don't doubt that Jon felt bad about Kenny, I just don't think he was sincere about his reaction on the show. I think he was milking it.

Yeah, Neal said a few good things about Steve, but overall I felt that there was resentment in what he said.

You're right Monker, this is too old to be discussing.

Perry's voice makes Faithfully the hit that it is and that is not an opinion. It's a fact!

I'm glad I'm not the only who's suspicious of Cain's breakdown on BTM. It was a very sad segment of the program, like Deano said especially when they showed that poor kid's face with "Only The Young" playing. Cain...I dunno....just seems to turn the tears on without warning.

By far the saddest reaction I ever saw on BTM was Vince Neil talking about his daughter dying, and I don't think he shed a tear, or if so it wasn't shown. Just the sound of his voice quivering gets me every time. Cain on the other hand, I feel bad for doubting him, but...

DIng Ding Ding!!! Vince was so matter of fact about it and instead of reducing to a blubbering ruin he toughed it out but that was friggin' sad. You can see him really struggling and fogging up but keeping it together. And you can hear the pain in his comments; wasn't feeling sorry for HIMself (not that Jon was, mind you) but for his daughter. As far as an impact moment that had it all over the Journey one. Because it seemed like all involved were expecting the Cain waterworks where as Neil's seemed to sneak up a lot more.

Boys, boys, boys. Steve Perry put the band the untenable situation of an indefinate hiatus from 1987-1995 by never officially quitting the band but refusing to record and tour.
It appeared very much as though the proverbial handwriting was on the wall again in 1997 and the band basically invoked the "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on us" clause. In all likelihood absent the ultimatum from the committed memebers of Journey, we'd STILL be awaiting the big Trial By Fire tour, Perry sending out cryptic messages like "I'm starting to think about singing all the time" just to keep that ultimatum at bay.
No thanks. 2 1/2 records, a dvd and shitload of live dates later I'm happy where this band IS.

HOTS,

I am willing to bet your vaginal discharge is so bad, so smelly, and so toxic, that you must buy new pants weekly. I can see the holes burning through the crotch in your jeans. Must be a bitch to have that smoldering, smoking, sulfuric smell follow you around daily. Christ what do your fellow IHOP employees say?

Shit, I can smell it from here.

HE'S easily amused? You Loons get excited about 8 year old interviews and BG vox on a lite rock album! The current Journey has provided WAAAY more to its fans than stinkin' Perry has since 1998.

How, or maybe I should ask why, in the hell did a thread about Jon's faux pas turn into a Perry/Perry fans bash fest?

No. Your avatar is the dalmation. All that thing that looks like a cancelled check proves is you're a computer illiterate boob.
It IS taking the piss to say I went ballistic over your sour grapes post about the ultimatum. I rationalized that move perfectly based on the voice's past ignorance of others in the band.

So responding to what you write is now tantamount to uninstigatively attacking you?
There was nothing remotely indecorous in what I wrote to you.
If there was, please post my comments and prove it.

Speaking of which, I am still waiting for you to refute what I wrote.
Typical hit n'run bullshit.
