I, too, am not sure what to think of this pairing. It appears to me that JSS does struggle on some high parts, although I know people here have said he doesn't have any trouble with the high notes.

listening and burning the Journey boot

Postby danthecdman » Mon Jul 17, 2006 5:17 am

If you're having problems listening and/or buring the Journey boot to cd, simply download and install Yahoo Music Engine to your pc. The program will play the concert and also allow you to burn to cdr, and it will automatically convert the flac files for you when it burns to cdr.

No problem -- I'm glad I could figure it all out. I've never downloaded a bit torrent before! It's a beautiful sunny day today, but I'm being lazy and sitting in the house anyway!

Just try to remember when listening to the recording that JSS is by all accounts putting on quite a performance and covering a lot of ground on stage. I am sure it is a whole lot easier to stay in tune when stood (or sat) fairly stationary whilst singing. To be honest though I would almost rather he did stand still though so that we could get a better grasp of how he sings the songs. He is probably sooo excited to be up there that he can't keep still!

Perhaps someone will be kind enough to upload the four Journey tracks that JSS recorded in the studio and reportedly hid on his website for download before they went AWOL.

I think I need to see a show before being able to fully comment on the pairing of Journey and JSS but that is in no way knocking Soto's singing of these songs. I just want to see the showman in action.

Hope Steve A is well and on the road to recovery.

JSS Boot

Postby aorgeneral » Mon Jul 17, 2006 5:47 am

First off I want to say that I am a huge JSS fan and own every cd he has ever been involved with, from Biker mice to Talisman to eyes etc. Secondly I would like to say that I am old acquiantance of Steve Augeri, so it is with great sorrow that I read some of the negative comments made by ignorant so called fans about the current state of Steve's involvement or future involvement in Journey. When I heard that Steve was being "temporarily" replaced by JSS I immediately thought not a great fit, vocal style does not suit the music, then I figured if I say this people will say your just sticking up for your friend, so I avoided comment until I was lucky enough to hear this boot featuring JSS. There are times when this is downright painful! One listen and any Augeri doubters will have to realise the great job Steve has done to allow this band to tour and sound well for the past 8 years. JSS is a great vocalist in his own right, just not for Journey, my pick for temporary replacement would have been Tony Mills, one listen to Sunset and Vine and you'll be convinced! Get Well soon Steve!!

Oh man that didn't sound to good, definitely missed that note Jeff.
Needs some practice on this one but I believe he'll get it right.

[quote="neilmaclookalike"]think in a live situ... people get carried away with how the singer behaves on stage... if the guy is "animated" like JSS obviously is... it takes yr concentration off the sound of the vocals...its only when u hear them later in isolation..in the comfort of yr living room..that you begin "hear" it properly ...warts n all!!

Augeri was knocked by some for being too laid back whilst on stage...personally i preffer laid back and in tune(pre tapegate) to manic and...erm.... slightly flat!![/quote I totally agree with you and I also think they enjoy anything after a few beverages

I like it, it is different from Perry or Stevie's vocals...but not bad...I kind of like some of the gruff sound to JSS's voice...it provides and interesting counterpoint to the backround harmonies.

I am seeing them live in Indy so I will have more to say after that I am sure.

Favorite has to be Deen singing either Open Arms Faithfully.

Favorite by JSS is Separate Ways.

I've only listened to the first three tracks so far...Soto sounds good on "Any Way You Want It" but I'm not very impressed with him on "Ask the Lonely".

I totally agree with the above comment. JSS is a fantastic singer in his own right but JSS+Journey just doesn't work.

I admit I had high hopes for JSS but those hopes were quickly dashed listening to this boot.

Journey is really in a catch 22. I can understand the desire to take the band in a new direction with a new singer and harder sound but it's a long shot and they can't abandon their catalog when they tour because nobody will buy tickets.

On the other hand, if they get someone who sounds like Perry, they'll be forever branded a karaoke act.

Honestly, the only way I ever see Journey having any chance at some meager commercial success again is reuniting with Perry, even if his voice is shot which my personal opinion it is.

Sadly, I think their days are numbered. Perry isn't coming back. The blood and relationship between Perry and Neal is beyond repair. Perry doesn't need the money which takes away the biggest incentive for them to reunite.

OK

Played it all thru a couple times now!

I guess there is hope with JSS.... Im not too sure about having a lead singer in Journey whose range ensures he can never reach those really high notes..like in Seperate Ways... "Promises we made were in vain etc etc" ..yes I know Deen subbed in for Steve A when his voice had "gone" ,,but Steve A could reach those notes for the majority of his tenure with the band... JSS just cant get there... but. Im sure he will sound great in a studio set up... I actually think Journey should re record a couple of their classics with JSS..put em on their site... to shut people up..and give him a fair listen.... maybe those "wavering" in their opinion..like me..wld be better served.... it wld allay a lot of fears... but hell...the band never seem to bother communicating to the fans effectively..so why wld they possibly bother now!!

Heard some mention about 4 re recorded Journey songs being on JSS's site at one time... anyone know anything bout em??

cheers

Ah, of course! Why didn't I think of that. If they still are using pre-recorded backing vocals, they can't just meet at soundcheck and decided to transpose a couple of tunes.
