His unmatchable delivery of a song (example see - Budakon/83 Still they ride) and his undeniable sex appeal! :D

perry's appeal

Postby SteveForever » Sat Sep 02, 2006 1:42 pm

He draws You to languish with him in his desperate melodic declaration of love and emotion in songs such as "Go Away". His voice carried your feelings with him coupled with Neal=it is a total emotional experience. He defined an era for me; anguish and agony of our young emotions and relationships. Just by listening and singing with him a young person was/is able to express the torture of our frustration with LOVE. Steve was able to put it all into words because of his relationship with Sherrie. Thank you Steve......

Steve Perry

The ultimate voice of the choir
amongst heavens angels
proof of victory over death
life beyond living
Love that never dies
last words on my lips...

Steve Perry...

I think it's literally from his heart to the listeners' heart.

When you hear Happy to Give, or Eyes of a Woman, or When You Love a Woman...how can a feeling person NOT be affected emotionally? His singing touches emotions and there's no explaining that.

Wow, THAT post reminds me of a worm named "perryon" from VH-1! :D Such language. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Image

I'll never get why some people get so dang emotionally involved in all of this...

Hey Yak, how the heck are ya? You're a girl. You know that, don't you? It doesn't matter what gender you really are because you have been labeled a female. Why should they let the facts get in the way, huh? :D

When I saw him, I believed he was a fabulous Native American - had no idea he was of Portuguese descent.

There are good voices and there are voices which reach into your very soul and touch you - deep.
Perry has that voice.
Hear him and you close your eyes and drift away, shuddering with goosebumps on some notes.

The way he looks is just an extra little bonus.

So his appeal would be that his voice has a power, clarity and rare beauty which touches my soul.

I agree a 100% in everything you have said here. He has it all over the other men. And he was born with it Elvis had it too. There are not many like them at all.And i will say it is God giving you can not get it any other way.He is still so HOT & SEXY at 57 other men just don't have it at all.JMO!!!! :( :(

I will disagree. God given, yes, maybe for the voice, but as far as the looks go, it's called working out, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Don't see the "HOT & SEXY at 57." I think he looks like the Average guy on the street.

Perry's appeal, hmm.

My take on Perry is as follows:
1. Great song writing skills
2. Arrogant prick
3. On stage he treats his fans well
4. Off stage he treats his fans like pieces of shit
5. Control freak
6. No loyalty to anyone but himself
7. The absolute best singing voice in music until 1983

People have tried to describe why his vocals are appealing and folks on the board have a done a good job of describing it in this thread. I think there is one key ingredient missing in the description of why Perry's voice is so appealing. For me, its the voice of God sing out to me. When I hit the pearly gates, it will be Perry's in the background with supporting harmony vocals from Hugo.

Now how a guy that is that big a prick does it is beyond me, but he does.

Aaron

Would love to, but not unless they play Western Canada! :( Was real tempted to visit a friend and go to one of the Cali shows in August, but was just there in May, so couldn't justify going 3 months later again. Maybe 6 months!

A soft voice of comfort calling out to him
With a touch of soft gentle whisper..

My take on this...

1) Unbelievable song-writing skills
2) Troubled Genius
3) Charismatic Performer
4) Used to be unpredictable...now great to his fans...(see Q+As, Annual Birthday message, showing up at the Perryville visit to WOF, buying lunch for fans, producing classic DVDs, remastering the entire Journey legacy - except for the crap bits - and so on)
5) Had drive, leadership and vision...which took Journey to the top.
6) Doesn't let anyone push him around.
7) The absolute best singing voice in music...period.

Yes - I"d like to hear The Voice at the Pearly Gates too. :)

Steve Perry is more than a voice
He is a living breathing individual
who can reach deep down into his soul
taking us with him on a magical experience.
It's just as much about passion as it is the notes
It's a feeling that resonates deep in the heart
