So why would you post here if you see nothing at all positive and only negatives? :?

I am going to leave it at that......not going to be part of hijacking Lora's thread....letting us know about the Q&A.

Great post strungout. :)

A side note:

I don't think anyone in this tread threatened to stop being a Perry fan if he didn't do something new. I, for one and I know I'm not the only one, could never stop being a Perry fan. How could any of us stop listening to the voice we love?

Even though we appreciate the reissues with the new songs, we've been hearing snippets of news that might lead us to believe that Steve is doing something new. The slightest possibility of hearing some new music from him, for me at least, totally overshadows the reissues. That's what some of us want to know about. If anything I said made anyone think I was threatening to stop being a fan or that I didn't appreciate the reissues, I guess I just didn't elaborate enough in my posts. I guess my use of the word crumbs was taken way to seriously by some people. I only meant that compared to some actual new material the reissues were crumbs. But hell, a starving person needs crumbs.

My response in my other post was to Matthew. He asked me a question and I responded to his question.
As far as I know, Perry has no other new music out right now. He has just done the reissues, and he added new songs to those solo cds.

Why would the reissues be overshadowed by just hearing that their MIGHT be new music, there is no new music that we know of anyway , ONLY the new music he added on reissues of the solo cds, so how does new music that is NOT out there ( least right now or that we know of) overshadow the reissues???

The way that I see it, I'm enjoying the new music on the reissues, and IF he wanted to give fans new music now, I would enjoy that too.

Ok let me simplify this entire thread:

Dear Steve,

We would really love if u made some new music. U still have fans. We are still here ready to buy whatever u throw at us. To us, u still have "IT". U will always have it even if u gain 400 lbs & are 80. It won't matter to us.

On that note, if u never make another note of new music, we will always be grateful for what u gave us & we will always love u.

However, if ur thinking about new music, make no mistake, we're still here. If not, just hearing from u is incredible & we will always love u w/o question.

Love from,

Ur many fans

Doesn't that about say it all?

I'm still holding out hope that he will create new music. For the longest time, all I was thinking was that he had to do "original" tunes. Lately, I began realizing that if he were to cover some great tunes that have already been done, that would be terrific too.

So Steve, I bet you cannot guess what my question to you will be... :D

You have probably been a fan all along & I've only come on board really in the last 2 yrs, so I don't know the feeling of years of waiting & hoping to hear something from SP. I do know that when I hear a song that he did background vocals on that I am saying to him, "damn it - why aren't YOU singing this song?"....He honestly misses performing/singing so he probably feels what we feel as well. Let's hope 2007 is the year.

Yes, Silverblue - I felt the same way when I heard the David Pack song...I wished Pack would just shut up and let the main man take over.

I know that singing background vocals is different because he is taking no risks...the CD is beng sold (or not) on the basis of someone else's reputation...but it's puzzling why Perry hasn't done a full lead vocal on - say - one of those smooth jazz records where the guitarist is the star. He came close on that Jeff Golub track...but again he held back from a full vocal. Not that I'm advocating a move into smooth jazz for Perry...which would be my worst nightmare.

Johnny Cash released some great albums doing just that...covering modern/contemporary songs by U2 and Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails and so on.

My fear would be a Rod Stewart/Michael MacDonald type cover album...full of showtunes and motown standards...but Perry has said he doesn't want to go down that path...thank God.

Really! I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to check into that one.

There are some great tunes that Perry could cover without having to go down that path. Maybe the next Q & A will shed some light on it...or maybe he'll come out and say once and for all, "No, that won't happen."

You're not wrong there, Lori....

It DOESN'T mean because Perry said he is doing these QnA, that he is going to tell us, that he is going to make more new music, it is just a way for the FANS TO CONNECT WITH PERRY. :D :D

Sure - and I appreciate it. In fact, when Perry answered a question of mine earlier this year I felt most honoured...even though the answer was along the lines "I have no plans to do that at this time..."

Matthew did you get the re-issues of 'Street Talk & FTLOSM, Greatest Hits+5??? HE DID GIVE the fans some NEW MUSIC to listen to on those CD's. Check it out, if you haven't already. The music is GREAT!! :D

Sure Lori - it's great to hear songs from the vaults which I haven't heard before - but I'm still keen to hear a record with his voice as it is now...

That's awesome.

Just goes to show that Steve is a lover of good music no matter the genre.

Alice In Chains were great, I still haven't heard anything from the new lineup other than when they performed with Phil Anselmo at the Heart tribute thing on vh1 classic. That ruled.

No!

I'm glad you brought them up, Andrew. I have not had a chance to hear them with their new singer. What is your take on them? I read a review of the Guns 'N Roses show recently and I guess Alice opened for them. They got a better review than Guns - or rather Axl did. :D

This is good worky by Cyndi and Lora....

Somebody ask him if anything for ST or especially FTLOSM was actually rerecorded for the reissues..... or if it was just different mixes or something that apparently made FTLOSM sound different in parts.

Does anyone remember these quoted excerpts from a post by Distant Voice a while back. None of us really took them seriously, but now they seem to be somewhat prophetic:

"............"Steve will be on uncle joe's (benson) show ...sometime in october or november to talk about this new farewell album (studio album) ..."
"Everything is being discussed in certain circles right now, as you know things like this don't just happen in one day,

It will be announced officially through Fanasylum.com when the details get worked out"

Maybe he knew what he was talking about. :?:

Well, if you do hear more about them, or get a chance to actually hear them, I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I really liked their overall sound. Very solid. The drummer, in all his simplicity, was perfect for that group. He put his signature on every song, as opposed to simply laying down a beat. There are very few of their tunes that I did not enjoy, at least to some degree. Bones and Rooster are probably two of my favorites.

Anyway, keep us posted, if you can.

Who knows if DistantVoice was a guy or a gal even?

Maybe they have an inside track and maybe they don't - who knows?

One thing I learned from my years publishing a magazine is this: nothing happens until it happens. If DistantVoice turns out to be correct, that's wonderful.

I don't know if DV is male or female but some on the board seem to think he's a he. I just used that rather than he/she or it.

I remember some of his/her statements being outlandish at the time. It also seems as though he/she almost enjoys being mistaken for Steve Perry, at least that's the impression I've gotten from his/her posts.

As far as statements made, the proof is always in the pudding.

Uh...wow, I must have missed that one! Yeah, you're probably right, HOTS. Sounds like DV could be a guy...though I've heard some women talk like that AND they could pretty much clock a guy without missing a beat. :D

Out of curiousity, when was this originally posted, any idea?
