Who knows?
I could be wrong but when Perry first came aboard I think he joined in and turned into duets some songs that had been strictly Rolie vox....

Whatever, Journey's vocal potential has been and now more than ever remains without bounds.

Let's not get carried away. It had "bounds" for the last 8 years. Til someone stepped "out of bounds."

Carry this away, guy.
I'm interested in IN-STUDIO right now something which Augeri sounded terrific in last time (I know, SinJin, I know "Pro Tools!!!" Spoken like a professional tool) , JSS has clearly proven to be the necessary road warrior. I'm over that aspect.
There seems to be some possible buzz about the first duet w/ the front man and I hope Cain since Perry/Rolie in what? '80?
I'm focused on the next Journey ALBUM.
People & Places, another superb track...any hands for JSS/Schon? I know NealIsGod's and NoMoreTails' appendages just shot up.

I'm probably one of the few who's fine with Jonathan doing Rolie's parts in those songs.

Your voice is MUCH more powerful than Deen's. Arguably, he sounds more like Perry, Frontiers era, but his voice has way to much "scratch" to do anything justice prior to that. He doesn't do a good rendition of Open Arms. He PERFORMS it well, but it doesn't sound like the original because Perry's voice didn't sound like that yet. Jeff, you do the Perry-era songs better, you're a much better all around singer than Deen (who is good, btw) and Journey only needs ONE singer on the new album. The job is yours, be fuckin' greedy and don't share it!!

thougt so. Was it ONLY Next?
It IS killer w/ Rolie-Perry correct. And there are at least 2 great soundboard/radio broadcasts of it out there.

Jeff, you have to do Perry. Jon sounds closer to Rolie than Deen. Let Jon do the duets with you, and let Deen do what he does now. I'm sure there would be a happy medium in there somewhere.

I don't believe that's the reason why,at least MY opinion is different. You do have a natural skill to go with your voice wherever you want, something that Deen can't.
While you can easily take Perry's parts in the old classic duets, you can just as easily do Rolie's.Deen is very talented, but limited to the Perry style.

Hope I make sense.

Here's a fan that's NOT creaming over Deen's voice. I HATE the fact that he sounds like Perry. Personally, I don't think he sounds anywhere near what so many claim BUT I do think he has certain Perryesque qualities that come off sounding TO ME as very contrived. I love Deen's druming and his personality - he CAN sing - but I can't stand the whole idea of JOURNEY trying to sound like a Perry-fronted karaoke version of itself!

PLEASE - let's all move on!

Fans don't like your "naturally lower voice" because they've still got Perry echoing in their heads and hearts. ANY voice will sound "naturally lower" in comparison.

Perry's gone. Gregg's gone. What they brought was magical. Trying to conjure up that magic results in anything but something magical. How successful would someone be if they painted another Mona Lisa in the same style as Da Vinci? It wouldn't work. That's why Andy Warhol's Mona Lisa is so genius. He breathed new life into a fading image. I think the same is true with your arrival. I don't think you're going to be successful trying to sing in the same style as Perry. I think you'll find success breathing new life into a fading band. Despite the successful tour JOURNEY's creativity has clearly faded.

This is YOUR moment. Take a DEEP breath. And like Adam was enlivened by God - by God, you need to enliven JOURNEY!

I thought you were Jesus? Are you talking to yourself AGAIN?

Isn't P&P a duet between Neal and SP with everyone else filling in the backing vocals?

Speaking of "People and Places",the song was done during the Soul Sirkus tours,as Jeff wrote about it in some of his 2005 on-line posts.
There is a mention of it in the April 15 entry (scroll)

http://soulsirkus.com/jss_diary_2005.html

On a side note,I would've loved to read a similar detailed diary from the recent Journey tour...Cool stuff.

Maybe next time? :)

FryeWyngz, are you one of those people who believes the world is 6,255 years old (thus disproving the Clovis-first theory), that humanity can trace its origins back to Adam and Eve, and that every single dinosaur fossil ever discovered was planted by evil, scheming pro-evolution anthropologists? Just kidding. Anyway, I loved the Warhol analogy, and I agree. This is Jeff's band now, and he's going to take it to the next level.

LOL!!! That would be No, No, and No.

Glad you liked the Warhol analogy. I hope JSS does, too!

BTW: I believe that we are ALL Adam's and Eve's. We're all born innocent and walk with God in the spirit until the time that we think we know better than God

I love the whole rib metaphor. Had Eve been formed from a bone in Adam's hand then he might pound her. Had she been formed from a bone in Adam's foot then he might stomp her. Rather, she was formed from one of his ribs so that she might walk BESIDE him - as an equal.

That reminds me of a horrible song Poison's "guitarist", CC Deville, used to "sing" as filler between simple-minded sucky songs (my band had connections with radio stations so we got tickets to 30+ shows a year, otherwise I wouldn't have had an excuse). I believe it was entitled "The Only Bone In Your Body I Like is Mine". It would have been much more funny had it been Weird Al or if I'd have still been 14, but I vividly recall EVERY SINGLE woman in the audience sitting there like a slack-jawed yokel for the duration of the "song".
