Well if she knew her Bible better she would have said that God's word told us the Earth was round. It was just too radical a thought to be believed by the masses back then.

"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth..." (Isaiah 40:22, NIV) Back then the Hebrew language didn't have a word for "sphere" only for "circle."

Well shame on her then for not listening closely enough to her indoctrination. My point remains the same.

Fucking Florida?! Yeah, I blame Florida for this countries troubles. Al Gore wins the election but somehow, somefuckinghow, the Elder Bush makes a couple phone calls and whamo, Shrub is in, after 17,000 votes mysteriously have holes punched for Buchanon and Gore. How the fuck do you republicans justify this? Even Pat B himself said, "those votes are those of Mr. Gore's."

It was on that fateful night in 1999, that this country started it's decline into the bowels of toiletry.

At no time did Al Gore ever lead in that election. I was baffled when the media called the state for Gore and Bush was still way ahead. Wishful thinking on their part.

Yeah amazing seeing how the disputed ballots were in heavily democrat precincts with democrat workers and volunteers crawling around

Didn't you hear all the old people there thought they were voting for James Buchanon

The butterfly ballot was designed by a democrat. Maybe we should have government aid to help those not intelligent enough to vote correctly? Looks pretty simple to me.

I haven't allowed myself to sacrifice my intelligence to indoctrination. That's why I can question the illogical and unproven rather than accept with blind faith or "faith as that of a child".

Hypocrite. Case in point just from this thread...

I knew that avatar would piss someone with your views off. Mission accomplished - get a sense of humour.

Amen. Great analogy. But thats blinkered religion for you. How can anyone with half a braincell believe that evolution didnt get us here? That is the scariest thing about it. Jesus saves but David Beckham hits it in on the rebound...

Before you put down someone for those kinds of statements, you might want to curb your own a little. :)

To say something like this is really outrageous. You don't know a damn thing about me so you're picking and choosing things that you've seen here and there and have probably taken out of context or didn't really take the time to read in the first place. Ask most of the old-timers here if they think I have a conscience or not. Deano, TNC, Saint John, just about anybody. Just because we disagree on some, or even many, things is no reason to question my integrity. I have very strong beliefs and I will defend them forcefully. That's totally different than being heartless.

Well you be happy with whatever religious belief makes you happy RF, just keep it out of the running of this country that was supposed to be founded on separation of church and state.

I've never said that I don't believe in a spiritual world. I just don't believe that the spiritual world has anything to do with any of the organized religions. I don't think the higher power likes being called Jehovah any more than it likes being called Allah or Buddha. Those are names that lowly humanity have created. Organized religion is nothing more than a means of sorting and classifying people. It's really just another power structure.

I absolutely believe that organized religion, not the love of money, is the root of all evil and has been since the inception of the idea of classifying people according to their beliefs(as early as the Egyptian pharoahs that I know of).

The irony is that it's organized Protestant religion that's in league with the financial power structure within conservative politics today.

That's a good question. I've noted the conflict of ideals. The answer that I've come up with is that the only recognized religions at that time in England were Christian religions. It was the divisions within Christianity itself that had caused all of the conflicts within England up to that time. Therefore, our founding fathers wanted to assure that all sects of the Christian religion would have the freedom to practice their chosen form of worship in this country and therefore avoid those conflicts here.

That interpretation however begs the question of the interpretation of the Constitution as it pertains to Judaism, Islam and various other non-Christian religious beliefs. Then again, you could also, by the same token question the interpretation of the Constitution as it pertains to muzzle loading muskets as opposed to AK 47s.

Again, you have the irony the religious right aligned with the NRA in conservative politics.

The intention was more to keep the government out of the church, not that religion would never play any part at all in government. Many, if not most, of the founding fathers believed you could not serve well in government if you were not a Christian. I don't agree with that, but it's fairly obvious that "separation of church and state" as we know it today is not the same thing that the founders had in mind.
