You want to call it nationalism, great. Ok I agree, see it's that easy.

But I maintain that all of this that is going on, if it results in platinum record sales and sold-out concerts, then is it a failure?

You won't say shit then.

Just remember...I didn't start with the insults. There might be people who might be superior ranking but that doesn't make them superior. Intellect is a terrible thing to waste. Why don't you try POSITIVITY?

Worked for me.

Me too (although I had heard of him). And at the Leppard concert last September(not with Journey) there were people that spotted Jeff off to the side/backstage. You should have heard the excited reactions around me when they saw him. "That's Jeff Scott Soto!! He sang with Journey last year!!" I guarantee you, he had us Leppard fans taking notice and they would definitely have been back taking in the next Journey shows. I have NO doubt!!

Now listen up strangegrey...this propping is all about Arnel's talent. Him joining Journey meant that others felt his talent is good enough to be shared and recorded to be spread throughout a region larger than Asia. THAT IS WHAT WE'RE PROPPING HERE.

This is about Journey's legacy

Look, you're just like me. We all have a say in Journey's legacy, but not as big INDIVIDUALLY as much as COLLECTIVELY. In essence, it's about the music.

What makes your opinion more important than those Filipinos? Do you think that it's because perhaps, you've spent more cash on their records than them? See, all of this stuff is going to be shaped by ALL the people. Some will take your stance, where others may take mine but whatever the case, once the music is out there...we'll all know whose viewpoints are more supported. BUT COLLECTIVELY...there will be a say. If the album goes platinum, what do you say then?

So again, is about the music or what?

Here's a question right back at you, Tang....

Arnel is in... they complete the Chile shows, the little remax thing and hit the road on a limited tour here in the states. With me so far? Things look okay, with the casual fans coming to the shows now held in much smaller venues than what they are expecting. They release the album and sales are... smallish. Eight months down the road they decide that it is the singer that needs to be ditched (and a new one found), because it is the singer causing them the smaller venues and the dismal album sales.

Now... which queue do you now find yourself in? Are you still in the Journey queue, still supporting the band and whatever action it seems to take? Are you firmly in Arnel's queue, waiting to see if that short stint with the J band brought him international fame? Or are you in the queue that a boat load of us are in, the one in which we are fed up with the band carjacking itself and running itself into the ground and wondering what on earth is happening?

While you can simplify things to "it's about the music" all you want, but when you've been a long time fan (and I don't mean since listening to your elder siblings stuff) and you've seen what looks as if it is the deliberate demise of what could very well have been the top touring band of this decade (I'm speaking of JSS here).. still relevant, holding a bit of history and bringing in the masses, it becomes just a wee bit more than "about the music."

You think JSS was going to make them the top touring band of the decade? If that is what you were implying it is quite simply the most ridiculous thing ever said on this or any other board...ever.

Oh for Geesus shit, SJ..... I wasn't being literal. I think there are a lot of us in agreement (and I'm sure the posts are still out there from the time he first started) that the musical direction this band COULD have taken, if given the time, would have bridged the two halves of the rock world. It would have drawn us back in at the same time drawing in the more musically relevant purchasers in the younger crowd. We'll never know, but yes, I do think they COULD have become one HOT ticket on the tour circuit.

In full agreement with you.
Agreed. My sentiments have absolutely nothing to do with Arnel. I will give new material a listen, but will NOT, I repeat, NOT listen to any of the dirty dozen except with Steve Perry's voice behind it. Doesn't matter to me WHO the impersonator is. I felt the same way about JSS. I like him a lot, think he has a great voice and enjoy his music, but not singing Steve's songs. That's my bottom line. Call it closed minded or whatever you want. It is what it is.
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

The question asked is...ARE YOU AN ARNEL FAN?

Postby ttango1 » Tue Jan 08, 2008 2:09 pm

If the group has a sort of second coming with Arnel, good for them. My time, money and listening pleasure will be spent on all past, present and future projects by JSS. Still love the music, just not the band and how they conduct buisiness.
Now that's a rational take. I can agree if there is a large contingent of fans that go this route.

So why did I highlight the nationalism? Was I first to talk about it in this thread?

My first post made no mention of Arnel's ethnicity. I even said that a difference of opinion was OK.

But then the take comes in...great karaoke singer blah, blah, blah Journey is a Steve Perry tribute band. It was in jest I guess.

The response was to Voyager's post, his was the first mention of nationalism, not mine. The Time stamp doesn't lie-

It's because most of them were not Journey fans to begin with - they were Arnel fans. To them, Journey is just another stepping stone to see their Filipino patriarch bring glory to the homeland. It has nothing to do with being a fan of Journey or Steve Perry. One look at the YouTube comments about Arnel makes that very clear.

To which you...strangegrey approve and call it "Very good point." Same timestamp.

To which I respond with Filipinos propping Filipinos question at 5:52 am-So who started what? Was it me?
If start means that you talk about it 3rd, then I guess I did.

And you call me the race-baiter? UNREAL!!!

You then continue the diatribe about how the legacy is getting destroyed, then you call "a whole lot of Journey fans" the following,
too dumb or ignorant...

Likened what "the actual band members themselves" are doing comparable to environmental destruction. That's deep but really, is it all that bad? If you truly think it's that bad, I would hope that you wouldn't go Monkey Wrench Gang style and send letter bombs to promote your cause.

Oh, and "BIATCH" isn't in an english dictionary I know of. If you want to assert your mastery of the english language, you might want to pick real, actual words to use in the same sentence for your baseless assertions.

Oh and the term BIATCH is slang.
Here's a reference for you to give you a chance to expand your verbal dictionary.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=biatch

Recognize that biatch!!!

To the rest of the Journey fans who have a rational take on this latest move by Journey, I applaud your abilities to say what you want to say without resorting to "verbal drive-bys" by what seems to be a small but noisy group of rabble-rousers. I feel that the best way to battle biggots is to take them head-on, however...I will limit those battles because when it gets down to it, if you let a close-minded biggot talk enough, they'll post something that shows then just how transparent they are.

I can be cool...if you can be cool.

Clearly you lack enough inteligence to recognize that the distinction I made was in the mindset of those that interpret their actions, not their actions specifically. The point I made very clearly, I might add, was that Journey's slow dismantling of their legacy, with fraudulant replacement singers is not very dissimilar to global warming, in that the damage done is methodical and slow enough to be easily overlooked by people too dumb to see the difference. You'll wake up one morning, after Nealpoleon, Frigalini and their hirelings play to a sold out show at the local waste management depot station...and you'll realize that they've ruined this band. They (meaning the principle decision makers in the trainwreck known as journey) are currently depending on the stupidity of fans such as yourself, to pay money for a sub-standard product that will allow them to sap money out of your wallets for just a few more years. Some day, you'll wake up and go "what happened to this once great band" and you'll realize that you were wrong all along. The *only* comparison I made to global warming is that the current mindset regarding global warming is that some people feel the majority of people that *can* affect change in global warming will 'wake up' way to late to do anything about it.

But why should I bother trying to explain that to you? You probably have a hard time understanding 4th grade english. Maybe if I said that in street slang, and called you a "biatch" and used phrases like "my bad" and "yo" and "not 4 U" and other proof-positives that you're a little brain...you might get it.

But I think I'm expecting too much of you.

Regardless....just, another attempt by a saber-rattling, race-baiting idiot to prove a point that isn't there. Nice try!

Your logic is the one that is skewed man. If Neal could determine through "poor audio and video clips" the extent of this guys "talent" and deemed him worthy of an audition, then why is it not safe to assume that I could look at the EXACT same video clips and come up with my own determination of whether or not I think the guy is the right fit?

Just keep trying to twist it any way you choose. I am the one who is CLEARLY AND CONCISELY making a valid point and raising a valid question.

In time you'll be able to compare pro-audio mixed Journey with Arnel on lead, compared to pro-audio mixed Journey with JSS, or the dual Steves. The club crappy "Zoo" sound is good enough for a raw evaluation, but that's about it.

He should've been given a chance to, though. He did get alot of positive reviews during the tour and the guys should've at least done something other that Winds Of Change with him before making up their minds to let him go. They used him to just to get through their last tour. I feel sorry for Arnel already.

Made in the mindset of those that "interpret" their actions...yeah your fucking interpretation. Does that make it any more right than those of others you prick? I think not. It's called an ANALOGY and thats the way YOU SEE IT. Apparently you think that your shit is more important than others.
Strangegreybiatch says:
You'll wake up one morning, after Nealpoleon, Frigalini and their hirelings play to a sold out show at the local waste management depot station

Unless the name of the arena or venue is called "THE LOCAL WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPOT STATION"-THEN THIS SHIT WILL NEVER HAPPEN NO MATTER YOUR"TWISTED" VISIONS OF GRANDEUR.

This legacy that you hold so ideal, please step off your box and come to the level of those who still acknowledge the contributions of others not named Perry.
I Love how you characterize the fans of the world who don't stick to your ideal.
people too dumb
or
the stupidity of fans
So you're saying that we're all too easily duped just because there are many of us who want to hear new music from the band know as Journey? Like YOU GET TO TELL US WHAT TO THINK? What's wrong with "wait and see" or already liking the direction the band is going? Oh I know, since strangegreybiatch thinks it to be bad then it must be.

Whatever dude. Please...you're just 1 fan such as I with what's called AN OPINION. I already told you that it is what fans do COLLECTIVELY that will effect change, but you seem to think you can do it all by yourself. Dude...are you really this egotistical? what are you

You have access to a forum that Andrew provided so people can discuss Journey. There are obviously sides being drawn up and as long as people see it "your way" then all is copacetic. Again, whatever...this ain't Burger King and you can't always have it "your way".

Strangegreybiatch says:

Okay so now you want to belittle me because I grew up in a society where slang is an acceptable form of communication?
Okay, in your words then-Racist Piece Of Shit,as if that makes it any more acceptable...hear me now biatch?
Authoritarianism describes a form of social control characterized by strict obedience to the authority of a state or organization, often maintaining and enforcing control through the use of oppressive measures.

I don't have to strictly abide to the authority of STRANGEGREYBIATCH. If I stand opposed to you, then so be it. The world is full of freedom fighters. I ain't alone in continuing to support both Arnel Pineda and Journey. In fact, I think there are a whole bunch more of people who are,UNLIKE YOU, willing to give this incarnation of Journey a chance.

Wow...free thinkers...another novel concept.
