I went on the official Cheap Trick message board and most of them are obviously upset as it looks like their band is going to be the openers. Most didn’t have nice things to say about Journey.

The official Heart message board was a bit nicer to Journey but still think their band should close. A number of people stated there is no Journey without Steve Perry, one even posted a decent sized picture of him. The Perry loons would absolutely love that thread.

Cheap Trick will go on first.
Heart will go on next.
And Journey will headline.

There is no way in hell that Journey will not at the very least co-headline the shows with Heart. But to be honest I don't think there's really any way that Journey aren't the headliners every night.

In the Cleveland and Akron area Journey have been mostly playing the 15 to 20 thousand seat venues since their first tour with Steve Augeri. Journey sold out their concert at the Blossom Music Center on their Generations tour, and The Blossom Music Center holds 20 thousand, and that was with no other bands with them.

Journey may not have the same success level that they had in the 1980's, but they are still a very big concert draw.

No question about it they headline this tour.

I will 100% guarantee you that Journey either headline all the shows, or at the very least co-headline the tour. There's not a chance in hell that Heart are the headliners every night. No way no how.

If Journey don't headline this tour, then Irving Azoff does need to be fired on the spot.

For the record I do like a lot of Heart's songs. But there's no way they headline over Journey every night!

If I was in the band I would want the middle slot. If you go on 1st, most fans are still arriving into the arena/pavillion. If you go on last alot of casual fans are tired after seeing 3 bands and also have to get home before the babysitter's curfew/and get up for work the next day. If you play in the middle, everyone is in the arena. I noticed during the Journey/Styx/REO tour alot of people were leaving during Journey. It wasn't because they didn't like them but 11pm on a work night is late for us 40 yr olds. I also noticed the same thing on the Aerosmith/Kiss/Saliva tour. Many fans with Aerosmith shirts were leaving during their set.

The amazing guitar talents of Nancy and the incredible vocals of Ann will close the show. Very well said.

I've got 20 bucks that says Heart headlines. Journey doesn't have what it takes to draw a crowd headlining. I even mentioned this to a local promoter today and he laughed his ass off to the concept of Journey closing. He said if that was the case, he wouldn't touch it.

the exact point that I was trying to make. No promoter is going to touch anything if they cannot guarantee that the show artist etc will sell tix and fill the venue. even in the casinos there are not that many high rollers and tix given away.
if the artist is not going to sell tix what is the point in booking the show.
they book the shows that sell.

If Journey is not closing these shows...I think it further establishes a worrying trend started in 2006 with Leppard.

We came for Journey, but stay for the other posters.

Yep. Goes deeper than just Journey around here.
And nothing wrong with that, either.

I agree. I have been a fan of the band and music for many years. Just like everyone I have my own preferance in the lineup/lineups that I prefer of the band. I am sure there are many people that did not care for SA or JSS and prefered not to attend any shows. It goes deeper than the music. I am not happy about the way things were handled and choices that the band has made over the last year or so. I still like to read and see what is going on and what people think and am interested in the different ideas and opinions. I just do not care for what has happened and the choices that the band has made. To and for me, this is not Journey and I have a hard time supporting it and spending money on it that I can spend else where. While that might be the case, I have always tried to make my opinions and posts without attacking or offending anyone. I like hearing what other people say and think about things etc. However I do not wish to see them live with this lineup and that does not mean I do not still like their music and the past.
Guess that is why I post and participate in the topics.

That's exactly right. The name Journey still carries a lot of weight. Like them or hate them now, they're still a concert draw. And Journey would not be an opener while promoting a new album.

Yeah, if Journey is trying to headline stadiums they don't have what it takes. But they easily can headline on the shed circuit. They played those venues on the Generations tour and didn't even have another band on the bill. Is your promoter friend in charge of booking events at the Metrodome? Of course he wouldn't touch them then.

Seriously, Journey is not relegated to being an opening act. And Heart is not the name Def Leppard is, so this tour won't be "co-headlining."

Well said. Plus, Journey has a new album and the buzz the Asians will create around Arnel will be good publicity. Journey will headline, no doubt. They're simply more talented, the bigger name and they draw more.

Journey headlines each and every night, period. End of story. I've been to seven Heart shows in the past 22 years, and not in ONE INSTANCE did their crowd draw equal even half of Journey's.

Angiekay, if your promoter friend seriously thinks Heart has a bigger name and is a bigger sell TO THE MASS POPULACE (which doesn't know / doesn't care about the musical chairs lead singer game Journey has played in the last 24 months), he needs to put down the crack pipe.

Hey, Heart is way ahead of Journey when it comes to integrity right now, and I'm looking forward to seeing them just as much as Journey and Cheap Trick. That doesn't change the reality of name recognition and economics.

Just because you have a new album to promote does not mean you automatically headline. Cheap Trick had a #1 single when I saw them open for Robert Plant. I don't see why going on 1st or 2nd is such a big deal. I've also seen Robert Plant when he was an opener - I don't think it bothered him at all. I saw Ronnie Dio 3rd on the bill with Scorpions and Deep Purple and then come back to the same venue 5 yrs later as the headliner. Some bands prefer to go on early so they can get off to the next city while the other band is playing.

If they like to relax on the bus at night with a nice cup of tea and a crossword puzzle...

What band likes to play while it's still light out and while the crowd is filing in? Because they want to get a head start on traffic?

Most nights when David Lee Roth went on before Sammy Hagar he was out of the venue before Sammy even took the stage

Neal and Cain already have experience opening for Heart. They were Michael Bolton's backing band in '87 when Bolton opened for Heart.
