Actually, I believe the 1-5% who pay the most taxes only include individuals, not corporations.

Yeah, and those individuals are CEOs and CFOs of the corporations that are reaping the profits that are being subsidized.

You're a lost cause. Nevermind.

It's actually a fair point.

The biggest portion of the price is the cost of the crude oil. I don't know what that has to do with anything though. The oil company profits are still too completely and atrociously out of line.

We may disagree on a lot of things, scary, but I find that to be a much more respectable choice than those who aim for the "lesser of two evils".

George Carlin once had a 'bit' about voting and people who complain about the elected officials, etc. It was to the effect of "if you aren't going to vote, you don't have the right to complain about those are voted in, etc..." and the point he was making was "if I don't vote, I have every right right to complain about the asshole YOU people elected." Granted, it was funnier when he said it.

I can see both sides of the coin on it though. If you don't vote, don't complain because you didn't do your part to change anything BUT... at the same time, why get involved if you don't truly believe in either side. I think it's more important to believe in what your voting for than to pick someone you don't really care about just to defeat the ones you dislike more.

We loons could band together and write in a Perry/Schon ballot.

The AP declared VA for Obama about 30 mins after I got home from voting for Hillary. At that time, about 6:30ish the turnout here had been 2 to 1 Democrat over Republican.

At my polling place the Republican worker told me that she didn't even know why she bothered to show up. The Democratic worker said it was the best Democratic turnout in his many years of manning the polls.

Well, I think it's a given that McCain is the nominee and either people don't feel they need to vote or are just as repulsed by McCain as I am and don't want to vote. I am just happy that Obama is beating HIllary. I know she's your girl, but I love seeing her getting her ass whipped. Sorry!

This is why I'm a registered Independent! It has just always seemed silly to me to prevent Americans from participating in an election that they feel compelled to vote in, because of idiotic partisan laws!

I was almost where you are scary. In fact I think I said on here that I wouldn't vote if Obama got the Dem nomination.

I said after Bush stole the 2000 election that I was giving up because my vote was stolen.

I said the same thing in 2004.

I just can't bring myself to let someone steal my only voice from me though.

Please vote. If the people don't vote then they lose their voice. Regardless of which side of the aisle we're on, the government of this country got out of control because the people got too complacent. The elections became a spectator sport rather than a duty as a citizen.

Jesus...That's frightening! How the hell could ANYONE hang on W's "every word"! Words aren't something W. has ever done well with! This is the first president of my lifetime (for the record, I'm 37) who actually has trouble putting a sentence together! It's quite frightening, actually! I'll NEVER believe that guy got into, or through Yale, legitimately!

I'm still undecided. I'm not 100 percent either way. I voted in 92 and again 200O. Missed the Clinton re-election because I was living out of state, and by the time I figured out what I needed to do cast my vote it was too late. I wish there was a viable independent. We'll see.

The answer is E. The government makes more than anyone on gas because of all the ridiculous taxes. Oil companies actually make a rather low profit margin on their product compared to most other industries, normally somewhere between 7 to just over 9%.

Well, if you're undecided, if neither of the candidates that end up in the presidential election inspire you, then toss a coin.

Just vote.

Do any of you know how lame it makes this country, the model of liberty, freedom, democracy and CHOICE look when only a fraction of our eligible voters bother with it?

Take English 101 and learn to read...I never said they needed a tax break.

That being said, the tax burden on companies in the U.S. is as high or higher than anywhere else, which is a big reason jobs are going overseas.

Well maybe those companies need to scale back on the billions they pay their CEOs and CFOs for fucking over the workers in those companies. That way they can pay their workers and their taxes.

The French know about Socialism.

The last time I went to Paris, six little French guys, none of them over 5'8", accosted me outside a club.

"Give me your cigarettes, Englishman!" they exclaimed...I pointed out I was a singer and had never once smoked.

Anyway, they didn't believe me. After I turned all my pockets inside out, they gave up, walking off with smarmy looks on their face. I guess they didn't get their weekly allotment of their sixth burning fingers, but it always makes me chuckle.

I do love the French, but their system is whacked.

I agree that some of those companies give their executives way too much money but this is a free market and they have the right to do so.
