They still can't do it w/out Perry.

You forget one very crucial item. Perry was repairing turkey coops and had given up on the music business until HH talked him into joining Journey. So evidently he couldn't do it without them either. They're still making music. Great music. Perry isn't.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than to have Perry back with Journey, or just a solo effort.

Actually, you're forgetting they couldn't do it w/out someone like Perry, so that's why HH brought him into the picture.

Why would you want Perry back in Journey ? HE CANT DO IT.

Look, A man that comes off as passionate as SP would be performing. It has been going in 12 years since he hit a stage ! In showbiz that is a lifetime. I dont believe for one second that he has not performed because he has nothing too say. To the contrary, i think he has plenty to say but cant reach his own expectations vocally or creatively. If we do see him it is because he got low on cash IMHO.

The most common rumor I heard was that due to some undisclosed condition (not his hip) that he had to be on a steriod program. If there is one thing that will fuck your range that is it. Many vocalist that had to go on steriods (Lou Graham) lost a huge part of their range. I dont know why this happens but it seems to real possibility that he got sick, needed roids and it fucked his cords. It happens.

I am an ok singer I think and the covers I posted got pretty good response from you guys when I put them up. That was a year and a half ago. I got a terrible chest cold a month or two after I did those covers and the cold lasted for like 3 months because it became bronchitis. I have not been able to sing like that since. I have warmed up, ran scales, drank this concoction and that concoction and it just isnt there. My upper range got fried or it is just some crazy coincedence and my voice went through that mid 30's change that males have to deal with. All I know is the only way I can sing older Journey now is one half step down. I am 36 and when I was 34 I could do it... Not now.... And trust me when I say I was working on it. I was considering starting a band with me singing since some people seemed to like my voice but I find that after that illness which now was over a year ago and it never really came back which is ok because I am a drummer 1st and I never have to sing that high on the backups I sing for the Pink Floyd Tribute....

Please stop speculating on things you can't possibly know the truth about.

You like Arnel, great. You don't like the last thing you heard from Perry, great. I LOVED his voice in 94, LOVE those versions of Jrny's hits. I don't care that he didn't sound exactly like he did in the 80s. You do, GREAT.

I don't care if you have NEVER liked Perry - that's an objective opinion. But to hammer him over and over with absolute crap speculation, to put rumors out there about stuff you have no true knowledge about... well, what's the point - other than baiting, of course.

I'm hoping that's not it, so I'm asking you to please stop. If for nothing else, respect for Andrew - that he won't have to clean up even more unnecessary arguments about rumors and innuendos, lol.

Re: the new album, are they playing it where you live?

I live in a fairly large city that supposedly has a pulse on music and not only
are they not playing it but when I emailed the dj's of the most popular stations they
have no clue about the album? :?

Not a peep yet in Chicago, and to be quite honest I suspect it will stay that way. I do, however, hope I'm wrong.

As you know, unfortunately, Chicago radio is not cutting edge by any means any more... I remember the days when you could hear new music from an upcoming album or CD weeks before it was released. Now it seems nothing new is played until it is already a hit somewhere else...very sad. Part of the reason I went to satellite radio...

Don't Chicago stations just play Blues Brothers songs all day?

It's obvious that JOURNEY AND STEVE PERRY were BOTH mediocre at best without each other.

Journey has the chance to change that and Steve Perry doesn't feel the need or desire to.

I am not trying to start a flame war here. I am speculating and it should be taken as such. My speculation is based on HH interviews, rumors and intuition with a little guess work. Very few know the truth and SP just keeps us hanging on. I made my point and have nothing more to say except...

I would love to be wrong about him....

Journey have wrote many a song just as good without Perry as they did with. Before and After.

Good one.

However, 97.1 played "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime" last night. First time I've ever heard either on the radio. Very awesome.

You've never heard those on the radio before? I've heard those tunes played back to back several times. Maybe it's just WFBQ here in Indy?

Never... mind you I've not been in the mid-west for long and the stations favor such different things here as compared to the South. At home, between the Winston-Salem/Greensboro/Charlotte markets you'd be lucky to hear AWYWI, Lights, or LTS on rare occasion. Since I've been here, it's common to hear Journey on the radio and more surprising is that they will play the more obscure singles. It was very shocking, but what a thrill... was on my way to a gig up in Crystal Lake last night I go "That's Perry!!!...and Rolie!!!" Cranked my speakers up and sang along. 8)

I am too lazy to search for it, but I thought the quote was to the effect of "they got their asses handed to them" - and I thought it was in reference to breaking ties with Sony and going at it alone. Didn't they buy one TV ad on the now defunct PAX TV network or something?

I don't know about that...par it down to 10 tracks like Escape or Revelation, and you have have yourself a very strong Journey album.
I won't fault them for giving us too much new music...even if it is mostly bat mitzvah balladry.

Fuck...sure beats the current incarnation, which increasingly seems to beg, borrow, and steal just to get enough new tracks to fill an album.

PopMuzik by M was number one, does that make it good??? TBF was a mediocre Journey album. Very slow with only a few great tracks. Most of it wandered. I'd rather hear Arrival or even Generations.

Haven't heard it yet. I suspect I won't. Radio is garbage these days. Too formatted and programmed. Boring. I could care less if I hear it on the radio.

Journey would be smart to get their stuff into TV shows and into malls. The mall thing worked for them before, it's a great under the radar way to go. I know the Goos last album, I hardly ever heard on the radio, but I heard it in so many stores.
