Just because all 'fans' don't write reviews, doesn't mean they were all just fine with JSS. As mentioned before, I brought a large group to a show who were not following the day to day movement of the band, and they were pissed that they had lost that sound with JSS. Actually, they seemed to be more pissed that they spent money on a ticket for a guy that didn't sound like Perry. I think he put on a fine show, but there were plenty that were none too happy.

This is true. A lot of caveman comments on youtube similar to the dog comments about Arnel. On a different note Unlike Arnel, J.S.S. does have his own catalogue of music and I am hoping he deploys more of his stuff into his concert set and gets away from all the covers. A few are okay but I would like him to really push his own original material when he is on stage. (and drop the Journey songs completely and let that sleeping dog rest)

Journey hadn't had that sound since Steve Perry left. Obviously your large group of friends didn't know what was going on in Journeyland to begin with.

Uhm. I think that was the point Greg.

And that goes along with what I said earlier, some fans can't get past the idea that the 80's are over.

But it's ok for fans to hold Arnel in the same breath as legends then?

Blimey you are so hard to understand.
Maybe I will come and hide your beer after all.

Exactly, and not to go round and round with you on this again, but you do have a tendency to prefer singers with the high tenor voices. Everybody has different criteria for what they like in vocals. While I'll agree nobody can touch Perry's voice, who are you to call the likes of me disillusioned because I dare breath the words Soto or Martin in the same sentence as Perry? 3 different vocal tones, and when it comes to delivering with "soul" they are ALL right up there in my books! :)

And I'm sure you will agree with me Deb, I said this in another thread somewhere on here today, but the difference between someone who can sing and a great singer is that they both can sing, but with a great singer, you don't so much HEAR it as FEEL it.

If a singer's voice stirs something within you, then that makes them a great singer to you.
And we're all different.

But I think most of us have been stirred by Perry.

I soooooo get that. I think Arnel is a fabulous singer, very close to Perry's vocal tone.........he's going to do great in Journey. I'm just not feeling it, I like vocals that when you're listening to a song.......a certain line will be delivered in such a way that just makes you go WOW! I love songs with soaring vocals like on Still They Ride or JSS/Talisman's Back 2 The Feeling.

That's what I mean.
When you FEEL that great vocal, you just close your eyes and have to stop what you are doing and experience it.

Sorry Susie, too much coffee this morning, I know you didn't mean it to be, but that last sentence struck me funny, gave me a giggle............kind of in a 'would you like me to turn the light out on my way out, so you can be alone with that lyric'......kinda way.   :P

You wouldn't be being rude there, would ya?

Most were ticked but are over it now and moved on......you have to admit it, if anything else Dan, they did go about it in a real pissy way. Selfishly, if JSS were still in Journey, I'd probably never get to see what is going to be a kickass show for this JSS/EM fan on friday. Can't imagine I'd be trying to stifle same grin all week long in anticipation of an upcoming "Journey" show.

I'd rather take the personal accolades Jeff garnered from Brian May, Jack Blades, and John Kalodner myself.

I'll respectfully disagree with you there. Jack Blades is the only one with credibility in my eyes. And wasn't May's posthumous anyway?

I gotta jump in here on this one. First, I wouldn't. Second, I remember May saying something, but I don't recall anything from Blades or Kalonder. What did they say.

BS, man up if somebody wasn't happy with JSS, tell him......then move on. They lost a lot of fans respect in the way it was handled......which could have been avoided.

Jeff made his name more famous during the 1st month with Journey than Arnel has the past 10 months he's been with the band.

I know this is conjecture right? I mean, I work for Nielsen and I know that we don't have any way of statistically comparing Jeff's 1st month to Arnel's 10 months. So do you have a scientific way?

The biggest reason for Journey's success is the Wal*Mart deal. If they had such a deal with Augeri or JSS as singer, the same thing would be happening. It's all marketing.

Are you sure? What quantifies that statement? There are new demographics at work here that help to drive the new sales. Without the formerly homeless guy, that demographic shrinks proportionately.

Absolutely not! I haven't seen anyone running around using Arnel in the same company as Perry, Mercury, Jamison and even Cronin...no one.

At least, not in this fine forum. Thank the man above. IMHO, I'd say AP is entrenching himself and is working to get to that level but is sensible enough to know that it's going to take a whole hell of a lot of work on his part.

Here on this forum, it's readily apparent that many here love JSS. That's great, however, that's a small sampling compared to the world beyond and as such, the powers that be seeked elsewhere despite the work that JSS did. So he couldn't reach the Leagacy sound. It doesn't make him any less talented. It just made it that if JC and NS wanted that sound, they felt that they needed to find it...again. So, KAMUSTA ARNEL.

I saw that over and over and over again. Do you think in hindsight that that is why he was even announced as lead singer in the first place? I mean they were getting alot of flack for not communicating with the fans, but look at it this way, what were they supposed to do mid tour? Post a statement like this:

"Hey fans... Journey again. Augeri sick. No, Perry can't come back. Here is Soto for a little while till we figure what the fuck else to do. Dont stop belivin..."

I think that the demand was why he got the job. Then a few months later they realized they messed up and caved a little to easy. Thus him getting canned. Thoughts?

Honestly I think Jeff Scott Soto is a force of nature. He seems congenial, has great stage presence and a rockin' baritone voice. I watched some clips on YouTube the other day and honestly it seemed like the Jeff Scott Soto show and not the Journey show, and that's NOT an insult, I just think Jeff is used to owning that stage and for me, I just don't think he was right for Journey. The voice was too deep and, again not an insult, just not what I think of when I think of a Journey song.

It's like when my friends and I go out to karaoke. If our friend that sings broadway gets on stage and tries to do some rockin' stuff, it just doesn't sound right, and if I get up there and try to do broadway it sounds incredible because I can sing anything, LOL, I'm kidding, but seriously, I think JSS is tremendously talented and I love listening to his songs, the marriage of him and Journey just didn't seem right.

Hope no one is offended by my opinions.

Good for Arnel that he is working hard, trying to get "to that level" of the "legacy sound "that you say JSS "couldn't reach". I can tell you flat out that Arnel will never come anywhere close to what Perry was to Journey. So, if that's what trying to reach the legacy sound is to you or Arnel.....relax and have a beer....the Party's Over!!
As for Soto....he wasn't trying to cover the "legacy sound", Perry's sound. He was singing the hits on his own terms and trying like hell to get the band to dig deeper on a musical level and quit living in Perry's shadow. I guess being the purveyors of somebody else's legacy is good enough for Arnel and good enough for Journey these days, since that's the route they obviously chose.
Whatever happens in Soto's career from here on out, it has to be better than trying to live up to what Perry was in Journey.

For most European fans, this is as close to seeing Perry as they're ever gonna get. We get it that Arnel isn't the second coming of Perry. but he is close enough for people that want to got the show and have a good time You've got three of the long time bandmembers, 2/3rds of the songwriters and a tenor singer. Everyone should have a chance to see them live if they bought the damn records. Queen marches on after Freddie and every one is fine with that. At least Journey recorded a new record with Arnel so he can start having his own material. They probably could have gotten away with another tour of Europe without a new release but they did it anyway. We got to see Perry and the boys live. Half the world didn't get that chance so let them enjoy this incarnation.

It's not right to even speculate about something like that since there's no evidence at all that anything like that happened.
