Lasting any longer than any previous singer isn't the issue.
Proceeding forward with integrity IS the issue.
Proceeding forward with integrity is absolutely the issue, as long as they have a singer that lasts long enough for that to happen!I'm just not seeing them cancel more dates as the tour continues, if Arnel isn't well. I see money trumping integrity at that point. There will either be tape, Deen singing along while Arnel sings as much as he can WITH TAPE, or a "temporary" replacement singer. Sound familiar? It's hard not to go there, since this was their m.o. the last time, and they have started with a show cancellation already.
Gunbot wrote:If the acid reflex problem is chronic, Arnel should take the money and run because he's not even close to having done the number of shows Augeri did with the band. Steve A. lasted around 8 years, not a bad run.
Gunbot wrote:The problem with Deen stepping in is that when he covered for Augeri, people were there to see Journey. Now a good portion of the crowd is there to see Arnel first and Journey second.
Eric wrote:Some of that information is debated...and some of it outdated. Severe Acid Reflux is a disease and weight and food choices are a non factor. What certain people or doctors loosely call Acid Reflux is just bad heartburn..and those things are related to food choices and weight.
If severe acid reflux disease is not treated it can lead to cancer of the esophagus....

Don't get me wrong I like Augeri, but there were certainly a few shows that should have been cancelled that Augeri did when he shouldn't have.
Doubtful to say the least. Cancelling one show so he can rest is not going to make a grand difference here, if his problem is 'chronic' and/or persistant. Friga and Fro don't have a tolerance for this sorta thing. If it lasts beyond this one cancellation, look for turmoil.

A little rest and some medication and he's going to be right back at it, knocking it out of the park again. I think he's a lot tougher than some are giving him credit for.
Voyager wrote:Augeri disease:Wiki wrote:A vocal cord nodule (or "Nodules of vocal cords") is a nodule or mass of tissue that grows on the vocal folds (vocal cords). Typically this mass will appear on the anterior one-third of the vocal fold, where contact is most forceful.
A vocal cord nodule reduces or obstructs the ability of the vocal folds to create the rapid changes in air pressure which generate human speech. Symptoms include hoarseness of speech, painful speech production, frequent vocal breaks and reduced vocal range. Females are most likely to develop nodules.
The nodules appear as symmetric swellings on both sides of the vocal cords. The cause of these formations are usually strenuous or abusive voice practices such as yelling and coughing. Persons who are often susceptible are those who use their voice constantly in a loud environment. Examples include teachers, cheerleaders, politicians, actors, musicians and singers.
Vocal cord nodules, although they can certainly impair one's speaking and singing ability, rarely harm one's general health. Indeed, the psychological trauma of being diagnosed with nodules -- a trauma affecting those especially whose professional success depends on consistently producing a rich and powerful vocal tone (e.g. singers, actors, broadcasters) -- typically dwarfs the limited systemic and even otorhinolaryngological effects.
Treatment, or voice rehabilitation, usually involves vocal training, speech therapy, and, occasionally, vocal rest. In rare cases, surgery may be required. Removal of vocal cord nodules is a relatively safe and minor surgery. However, those who sing professionally or otherwise should take serious consideration before having surgery. While the patient is subdued under general anesthesia, long thin scissors and knives are used to remove the nodules. The best preventative steps seem to be wrapped up in the study of vocology, the science and practice of voice habilitation.
Symptoms of vocal nodules include vocal fatigue and hoarseness or breathiness. Hoarseness or breathiness that lasts for more than two weeks may signal a voice disorder and should be followed up with an appointment with ENT.

Yup. However, there are people that just can't wait for him to be sidelined...

According to his site, it sounds like he's getting better. According to his buddy, who saw him today:
Reujen: yeah he will be in ontario and he has his voice back na
Hope so.

There will always be naysayers.
I was worrying about his voice a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't what I thought it was, so I'm guilty of speculating too.
