I kinda thought it was appropriate. Manilow does it justice in a Barry kind of way, and it fits in fine with any of his hits from the 70's. Honestly, Manilow is perfect for this kind of song. This is the song that put Journey over the top, and part of the reason was because it had appeal to people who might not normally listen to a rock record. I've got a feeling there's a lot of Manilow fans with Escape in their collection.
Yeah, he seems to be an amazing performer. The only shit I don't like is that he auctions off his front row tickets. It costs a fortune to be up front. Good thing I'm rich.weatherman90 wrote:Saint John wrote:I'm actually thinking about going to Vegas for the de la Hoya/Pacquiao fight and seeing a Manilow show. I saw Manilow in St. Paul last winter - amazing show. If you're a fan of his music it is quite an experience to hear his voice live, and the stage show is pretty impressive.

I like his take on the song, and it's definitely a smart move given all the hype over the song.

Awesome story!!! One of the nicest guys in the business. I have to get to Vegas and see him soon.Luvsaugeri wrote:Saint John wrote: Yeah, he seems to be an amazing performer. Not true for his Vegas show. We got front row, on the stage for face value (which of course was $250!!) He came over, danced with us and even sang part of a song into my friends phone when she was calling her husband!!

He REALLY reworked Open Arms...different key and such...I wonder if Jon helped him???
It should be noted that "Mandy" was originally called "Randy" and was MUCH faster...he was working on learning the song, and was playing it slow and his producer at the time liked it the way he was playing it...and the rest, as they say, is history.

It's botox related: a friend who is a plastic surgeon (and admittedly who is very anti-botox) says that actors and especially singers should never get botox done in their upper lips and cheeks, because the paralysis in the facial muscles affects how a person unconsciously moves saliva from the front of the mouth to the back, which has a huge affect on ennunciation. Once he told me that (as well as all the cues to spot who's had it done) I've really started noticing the 'tsk' noise a lot; it's a way of moving that saliva with your tongue when you have limited movement in your upper lip and cheeks. People who've just had dental work seem to do it a bit too.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE WHO RELY ON THEIR VOICE and, um....FACE....would VOLUNTARILY paralyze certain muscles - needed to DO THEIR JOB, BTW - to look better.

Agreed! No wrinkles, but also no expression, no human-ness, no dignity!
